Made the mistake of watching The Green Inferno late night Friday on HBO. Yeesh, what a pile of garbage. Crappy from start to finish.

I mean, I guess Eli Roth revisiting the cannibal horror genre could be interesting, but this thing is just crap all the way. And the pièce de résistance of all the crappiness is Roth introducing FGM into the film. It offers no redeeming value other then degradation and shock.

I give it half a tarantula bite on the penis out of 5 (or alternatively: half a smoked Jonah out of 5).

Boy, Roth's track record is pretty shitty. Other then Cabin Fever, the rest of his works are not much better then this (don't even say Hostel was good or I will fight you where you stand)

I could have told you this. In fact, when this debuted originally it did so at TIFF Midnight Madness, and everyone I know who saw it that night HAAAAAATED it. Roth was there, and faced (I'd say) about a 1/4 audience who remained for the Q&A portion (note: Usually the Q&A's at the MM screenings stay full). Nearly everyone left apparently. And I then heard about how bad it was ALL week in Fest lineups.

Roth is a one-hit wonder (and I'm not even a big fan of CABIN FEVER...but I'll admit it works as a concept) and apparently a big dickhole to boot in real life.

Agree. And man, I hated him in Inglourious Basterds (which I enjoyed over all).

For some reason this has been in high rotation on HBO/TMN, thus i have seen a few minutes of it, because it took only a few minutes for me to decide that reruns of CHOPPED on the Food Network would be more enjoyable to watch.
Pun intended.

I would just like to say Joan Cusack is wonderful in her own right and doesn't need John to carry her, though it's also clear Hollywood has failed her like it has most women.

So avatar sequels are apparently officially announced for 2020 2021 2024 and 2025.

I was excited for the sequels up till about five years ago and then forgot about them. 11 years seems to long to develop a sequel! Dear God even Martin only takes between 4 and 6

to be honest the only selling point for avatar for me at all was that it was pretty and actually made good use of 3d, but it epitomised how much of a gimmick 3d was.
Dances in wolves in space with smurfs, I don't see a need for a sequel let alone 4 more. you're better than this cameron

Avatar was pretty to look at, had a good grizzled villain in Stephen Lang, and made for a great RiffTrax, but otherwise, yah, it was underwhelming to say the least. It kinda sucks that JC has devoted himself so wholly to it (at least when he's not searching for krakens or whatever). Maybe he'll turn it around though...it's not like I'm hoping for four more mediocre movies.

And hey, Sam Worthington needs a job. I'd hate to drive by an unemployment line one day and see his forlorn face staring back. Not that I'd necessarily recognize him. Talk about a swing and a miss for the star-making industry.

Eh, she's literally always playing the same character...which I assume is herself. She's good at it mind you...but she's got very little range.

But then the same is true of John.

I'm just worried by movie 3 we ll be bored and not give a fuck anymore.

...we...aren't already? XD

Avatar was one of the most boring movies made in the new millennium (largely because it had zero unique plot, and relied solely on the gimmick of 3D to make it a spectacle, and while the 3D was great, in the end it highlighted how little the film or actors had to offer - excluding the villain, who was brilliant). Such a waste of time and money to make more.

Re-watched two 90's movies that I've always loved over the weekend.

DUMB & DUMBER. Still excellent, and hilarious after all these years.

GROSSE POINT BLANK. I remember loving this movie to the extent that I used to know the dialogue off by heart, and I still always think about the egg line and protein when I eat egg whites. It's still very good, and much blacker of a comedy than I think I used to assume. It hinges on the phenomenal chemistry between Cusack and Driver, and Cusack's relatively mind-wandery delivery of the fantastic dialogue throughout. The ending is a bit of a lame duck (like it's missing about 10-15 minutes of resolution), but everything up to that succeeds. It's also nepotism on full display with not just Cusack's sister Joan in a supporting role, but the 3rd of the 5 Cusack siblings Ann Cusack as a drunken schoolmate of the characters. Piven delivers a fantastic performance as Martin's old friend…and Alan Arkin (as usual) delivers a winning and hilarious performance as Martin's reluctant shrink. Anyways, still a great movie and holds up well 21 years after the fact.

I wore out my VHS copies of GPB and High Fidelity back in college. Need to rewatch them both.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Great trailer as it sits kids without actually giving anything away, plot-wise. Live the first one so excited about this!

Finally got around to watching X-Men: Apocalypse for the first time. Boy, what a disappointment. A tedious, convoluted 2 1/2 hours that says a whole lot of nothing by the time it's finished. The best part was Quicksliver. The rest was zzzzzzz-yawntastic.

Oh, and was there a purpose to Rose Byrne's character? Also, I'm sorta over Jennifer Lawrence as an A-list actor. After watching her in a number of movies now, I just don't see the stellar acting and range that warrants all of the praise she gets. And finally, can we be done with extra scenes that run near (or at) the end of the credits? It's played out and needs to be shuffled off to the pop culture bin of things that used to be neat or cool.

I give X-Men: Apocalypse two surprise Weapon X appearances out of five (or alternatively 2 Apocalypse created haboobs out of 5)

Just watched Best of the Best with Eric Roberts and Chris Penn. God damn, I love this film. I hadn't watched it in over 20 years and it's still a great American propaganda sports film. So many 80s tropes, great soundtrack, bar fights, training montages, good guys being beaten down but over coming, etc. They don't make films like this any longer.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was pretty good. It lacks a focus and, well, a solid plot. However it is charming and funny and all the things you liked from the first one.

Went and saw it last Friday, release day here in the UK I think, I really enjoyed it tbh, as you say it was all the things I loved about the first one. I'm absolutely sure there'll be people who attack it for a lack of 'evolution' or some such thing, but personally I think it went with what it did well before and delivered once again. I do agree that it's focus was less than tight though, and the plot could have used some work. Loved Kurt Russel as Ego, but frankly he could've been way better fleshed out than he was. The Sovreign felt kinda flat as well tbh, though the post-credits scene was great :) Love Yondu and that whistle, the Mary Poppins bit was really funny in the way that Guardians has just been great at since the beginning of the first one, some of the more emotional stuff with the character sometimes felt a bit forced, but I can forgive that.

I can't be the only one genuinely hyped for the eventual Guardians/Avengers meeting, RDJ's Iron Man meeting Rocket lol :) Hulk meeting Drax etc.

Just back from Guardians 2.
Now my third favourite Marvel film, deadpool being no1 and guardians 1 being no2

As has been said already, I felt the plot progression was a little stuttery in places and the overall threat level didn't really hit the same not as Ronan in 1. But the comedic timing in this film was flawless, I don't think there were any gags that didn't land. And when it had to be proper serious it was, didn't cheapen the emotional scenes with a wet willy.
Comedy value, higher than 1 and deadpool, but a lackluster plot let's it down.
Definitely looking forward to Thors reaction to Rocket, and somebody falling out with Drax

Saw Guardians 2, loved it.

Very solid Marvel entry with lots of comedy and action.

Overall I am not sure whether making the entire movie about Ego was a good idea, guy wasn't that interesting. Rocket continues to be great.

I was a bit confused about Drax though - it seems like they have totally relegated him to comedic relief when the movie 1 Drax had a lot more emotional depth.

Baby Groot was very very cute.

I was a bit surprised that we never saw Thanos.
