Loved it. Thought it was better than the first one, including the plot, and is easily in my top three MCU movies. Also thought Drax had the heaviest couple moments in the movie, so I guess that's a matter of perspective.

I think Drax route into comedy is a show of character progression, or at least that's how I understood it, he has went on a journey with rocket into understanding some of the more complex sides of emotional reactions - humour, be it still a childlike enjoyment of things, pranks and the like. Clearly he still has no grasp on the likes of sarcasm, but his childlike enthusiasm and enjoyment of crude and basic comedy was, for me, just like a kid enjoying watching a clown.

There are a few spoilers in above posts (mostly funny moments, not big plot moments) but you should probably just go see the movie ASAP. I know you don't necessarily hit the theaters often but this one is worth it.

When Apocalypse tried to pull off her wings they turned out to just be very large skin tags. Ultimately his hands got stuck in her flesh, and over a span of days he was gradually pulled in entirely. He resides there to this day.

In preparation for COVENANT, I re-watched PROMETHEUS on the weekend...and it's still largely awesome.

And now I can quantify the shot in the COVENANT trailer of a darkened "field of death" with a "pyramid" in the background...it looks like this is LV-223 (the moon from PROMETHEUS)...so it's either a flashback to what happened after Janek crashed the Prometheus into the pyramids....or the same installations exist on the world they find in COVENANT.

I also noticed some stronger tones of who's responsible for everything that befalls the team. Okay, so the Biologist pulls his best Steve Irwin impersonation with the vagina snake...that's a dumb move...but not unheard of with biologists in the wild. The geologist with him (who everyone seems to think is a cartographer as they complain about him getting them lost...which I mean...WTF?) gets them lost as the storm prevents contact with the other team members on site, or Janek and can't confirm their location of the "out". The death of these two guys does not spell doom to any of the rest of the team.

Everything else that happens in the film...is as a result of things David does or triggers.

David turns on the holographic re-creation of the events that lead to the Engineer's mistake on the site (without asking)
David opens the temperature controlled room which houses the containers of black spore goo (without asking)
David freezes one, and brings it aboard Prometheus (without asking)
David takes the black goo and drops it into Hollaway's drink, while he's drunk to see what happens (knowing that this might not only lead to Hollaway's infection, but a possible infection of Shaw as well through impregnation)
David refuses Shaw removal of the alien creature she's been infected with.
David lies the whole trip about Weyland and the true nature of the journey. To get Weyland more life.
David (it seems) says something to the Engineer that enrages him...perhaps on purpose to get him to kill Weyland (you can see in a few moments in the film where Weyland treats David horribly with his words, and you can SEE David physically react in a way that says he hates him for it).

Pretty much the deaths of every crew member and the destruction of the Prometheus mission (as it was supposed to be; not Weyland's ulterior motive) are results of David's actions...stupid scientist moments only result in the deaths of two guys...and really the cause is the Biologist solely...the geologist wants him to stay back and he doesn't.

Anyways, I still love it. It's SUCH a great world-building movie, and I find David to be a fascinating character. I'm super curious to find out what happens to Shaw in between the prologue we saw with her going into hyper sleep...and Covenant with seeing her dog tags hanging in the Juggernaut.

I also feel like the new film's Synthetic, Walter, will be closer to Bishop.

There is no other film that makes me so angry. I won't be paying to see Covenant.

Watched Independence Day: Resurgence. Not much to say, other then it's a steaming turd of a movie. I mean, I guess some of the special effects were neat and all, but the movie doesn't do anything interesting or new. It's just Independence Day with a slightly different skin (but done crappy). And I found myself cringing every time Liam Hemsworth made an attempt to assert his acting chops.

I give Independence Day: Resurgence 1-1/2 kiddie boxes of Moon Juice out of 5 (or alternatively, 1-1/2 Brent Spiner pant-less butt scratches out of 5)

Announced on Mike Mignola's FB account...HELLBOY reboot in the works with David Harbor as Hellboy and directed by Neil Marshall!

EDIT: yes it sucks that Perlman won't be big red anymore...but David Harbour is a solid choice. And I'm not going to lie, I'd love to see someone other than GDT handle direction to get closer to the vibe of the comics than GDT ever did.

That's kinda mixed news, huh. I didn't love the first Hellboy movie (except the clockwork Nazi) but the second one was pretty darn good and I'd have liked to see GDT and cast continue. But they been messing him around forever now.

Those aren't bad choices for a reboot though.

It was GDT who fiddled and faddled around for the last however many years...and then he pissed off Mignola as a last straw.

I hope hope hope it sticks closer to the comics...cause they could really start something special.

This is less mixed for me, and more straight up good news. It sounds like the script will be by Hellboy scribe Christopher Golden himself and Mignola...GDT was too much into stamping his mark on it all...needless audience proxy character and love triangle and all in the first film. As much as I like them...they are a far cry from the tone and vibe of the Hellboy comics.

Ah, I have no familiarity with the comics. I can see why that'd turn fans off (and like I said, I thought the first one was -- not weak, but not a real triumph).

Loved Guardians 2!

I loved it too, I found it much funnier than the first one, and how can anyone not aww over Baby Groot? That said, I could have done without some of the info-dumping / back-story blah blah, and I am very glad that I didn't see it in 3D because I think my head would have exploded. As it was a got a migraine afterwards, sigh.

Still, a very enjoyable movie!

Wonder if it's a true reboot or possible Golden Army sequel with all new cast? I'm sure 1&2 are swept away with the term reboot but I'd personally love if they picked it up after GA.

I don't think you'll see this continue any of those plot lines. Not especially because Universal would not allow such a thing to be done out of their purview. They don't have the rights to HELLBOY obviously...but they will hold on to the existing two films with a death grip....so they likely can't continue them.

The working title for the reboot (which will be Rated R BTW) is HELLBOY: RISE OF THE BLOOD QUEEN. I'm not sure if it's connected....but The Queen of Blood in HELLBOY comics is Nimue (Lady of the Lake, apprentice to Merlin) greatest of all British witches...and became inordinately obsessed with the Ogdru Jahad (the Lovecraftian creatures Rasputin wants to summon in HELLBOY: SEED OF DESTRUCTION/ HELLBOY movie 1). So that fits with a reboot in my mind...This could be them beginning multi-movie adaptation of HELLBOY: THE WILD HUNT...which would be hella cool.

I'm glad we don't need another origin story for Big Red...and hopefully this will just be a straight up Hellboy in the mix story...wonder if they'll get Doug Jones to play Abe?

I have a feeling this will also be a younger Hellboy....which is the reason for David Harbour, as he is 42....while Perlman is 67. Doing this allows them a lot more films in the series if it proves successful.

I did not get some of yalls love for the 1st Dunkirk trailer a few months ago. Yesterday though when I saw this before Guardians I was kinda blown away...

Nolan is a GREAT technical filmmaker. But this one requires emotion to REALLY sell it beyond the action. I hope it delivers that....because Nolan is not great at emotion.

Aside from that worry, it looks phenomenal...and I only think one of his recent movies is bad (INTERSTELLAR)...so he's not lost me yet.

I can't decide if I should go see GOTG2 or KING ARTHUR while my wife and daughter are out of town visiting my sister-in-law tomorrow and the next day.

So is the Matrix. Time is the worst.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
