Saw Argo tonight. 8 out of 10.

Good movie.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Saw The Candidate (Zach Galfinakis and Will Ferrell). I too grant this an 8 out of 10. It escalates into hilarious territory far more often than Anchorman.

Sinister. Tense moments, reasonably few AHAHFGSFIGHS jump scares (reasonably), some nice horror scenes (argh Lawn Work), me and the lady liked it.

Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Just watched Up in the Air for the first time since I saw it in theaters a few years ago. Really good movie, one that I think is perfectly done. It doesn't try to be anything that it's not, and even as a drama movie made in Hollywood it doesn't feel like it has that Hollywood stamp (everything more or less feels like it could have been recorded out of someone's actual life). There's also something about Ryan Bingham and his obsession with frequent flyer miles that is just so beautifully tragic.

Skyfall.
A simple review?
Its Ace.
Now Goldeneye still holds the place in my heart as the best Bond film but Skyfall is really pushing it.
I'll need to watch it about 10 more times to see if it still matches up.

What I loved about it.
Great villan, best villan in a long time, this is down to his motivations and the actor (not going to try spell his name)
Dame Judy fence. She's a fantastic actress and she makes the most of her extended screen time this go round, you can really see through her cold demeanor to see how making the hard decisions gets to her, even if she gets on with the job anyway.
Daniel Craig really aims it this time. He's got the smartass off perfect and is still a cold determine bastard.
None of the foolishness from die another day gadget wise.
Being the 50ty year and something of a return to form for the bond films there's lots of little nods to the older offerings.
Superb finale.


What I didn't like?
New Q, he was iritating
And Nioami Watts' character smiling too much


All in all I'm giving it 9.5 shaken martinis out of 10.

Oh, one thing, someone mentioned this being a conclusion of the "new spectre" storyline, I really saw zero connection to CR or the crappy QoS.
Like nada, zilch, so if someone could link that through for means spoiler it for me Id be much appreciative

Also, not normally much of a fan of the title song part of the films, this one just sailed by and made a lot of sense come the end of the film

Just watched Immortals, the Tarsem Singh film. Bit of a strange one - the plot is unbelievably, mind-bogglingly, ridiculously stupid, but it looks astonishing, the fights and battles are badass, and scene-by-scene it's quite well acted.
It's rather like Snow White and the Huntsman, which I saw last week, in that, but even more extreme in both daftness and prettiness.

Skyfall is fantastic, by far the best Bond for quite some time imo and definitely Craig's best.

It's a far more character driven affair, although that's not to say the splosions are not fab. Bond is vulnerable and shows weaknesses that we haven't really seen before. He's jaded and pissed off which makes the payoff all the more enjoyable. Javier Bardem is a suitably villainous villain with suitably ridiculous hair, he camps it up nicely and could easily have been one of Roger Moore's baddies.

As Mac has said there are quite a few nods to the previous 50 years and the ending sets everything up nicely for a continuation of the Spectre storyline as there was nothing in this film to suggest that Bardem's character was Spectre

I shed a tear over the Astin and the standout line for me was " Welcome to Scotland " .
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

Skyfall was great. Much more of a Bond movie than the previous one, and Craig did exceptionally well as a bit of a wise cracking smart ass while at the same time being terrifyingly competent. Having just recently finished Red Country by Abercrombie, I couldn't help but compare him to Logan Ninefingers. For the people watching Bond, from afar (Mallory, Moneypenny, Q) he must seem absolutely terrifying.

There were a couple of plot holes, but that didn't really matter. Additionally, this might have been the visually most stunning Bond movie ever made. I too have a soft spot for Goldeneye, though in the end I can't help but prefer some of the old Connery movies, yet Skyfal climbs up to the top 5 easily.

I also watched Looper, and though it was quite entertaining, I wish they would have tried to be a bit more ambitious in tackling time travel. As it was they chose a sort of middle path that very little sense. Still, well worth the watch.

Also think the wife and I are going to go see CLOUD ATLAS this weekend. Surprised there aren't more comments here about it.

Skyfall was awesome, and all the reasons have been already mentioned by others in this thread.


Watching Underworld: Awakening, and the bad writing makes me want to turn it off.

CLOUD ATLAS will divide people down the middle. I loved it, and agree with Amph's B+ rating. DEfo.

@Macros: I think SKYFALL is meant to finish off the new Spectre trilogy solely for Bond's personal journey that he's made since CR where he was the Bond Girl (up to and including coming out of the water in a skimpy bathing suit) and Vesper was kind of Bond instead... it was back when he trusted in stuff like love, and heroism...through the immediate aftermath events in QoS dealing with the fallout of Vespers betrayal and death and his own personal demons...I think Skyfall is meant to be the remaking of Bond AS the Bond we all know now...but yeah I didn't hear of any specific story links. I'm super excited to see it.

Okay, I watched Seven Psychopaths. I didn't love love love it, it had some elements that didn't appeal to me (some of the meta humor was great, some of it was a little too on the nose), but all in all I found it highly enjoyable. There were serious LOLs throughout, and the violence was pretty over the top awesome. Sam Rockwell is just such an appealing actor regardless, and even Christopher Walken -- despite being very Christopher Walkeny -- was awesome. I'm not saying Walken isn't generally awesome, just that for a movie where his quirks are so played up it could have been jarring/distancing, but it wasn't at all, he fit right in.

Also, I have In Bruges on my table right now, will watch it within the next few days. Kind of glad I waited to watch it second, because from it's rep I will probably like it even more than 7P.
