That's a solid write up, QT, but I have to disagree with your theory that people didn't like the Snyder movies because he chose to take the characters in a controversial direction.

I would not say everyone who didn't like it didn't like it for the reasons I stated, but an awful lot of the complaints I've seen about BvS either directly or indirectly result in "this isn't how the comic did it". That's just my experience though. YMMV.

Yeah, I liked Man of Steel a lot despite disliking what it did to Pa Kent immensely,

See, I'm glad that a Superman story FINALLY gave me a Pa Kent who was realistic as to what a parent would be, and not some 1940's Farmer who is so perfect and infallible that he's the reason Clark is who he is as a hero. Which was fine back then, but contains absolutely no viscera of story for me in the 2010's.

As a parent, watching Pa Kent basically not want his son to be poked and prodded like the alien he is, or imprisoned out of fear of his power, ect. is exactly how I would be as a parent. Is that selfish? Probably. But what guarantee does he have that those things won't happen to Clark if the world finds out? And again, I think it bothered people because most of the source material has Pa Kent as the bellwether for Clark's moral compass...while Snyder just makes him get there on his own through a trial by fire instead.

and I thought the first 45 minutes or so of BvS had potential, but after the dream/time travel moment it just fell apart completely.

What is it that made it fall apart for you, ignoring that the Flash moment is/was a snippet of the original planned 3 JL movies, I assume it wasn't just that moment, but what came after. I'd be curious what didn't work for you.

I saw this movie recently over the weekend very late at night called Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. It's a movie from the early 1990s and takes many of the action movie tropes of that era and injects it with testosterone and a good amount of absurd lunacy.

So my question proffered to you film buffs concerning Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man : Best movie ever or Greatest movie ever?

Apparently Wedding Crashers 2 is in the works.

The chances of it catching the magic of the first are slim to none, but i'll still watch it.

May try to find Nightmare on Elm St or Friday the 13th. He seems he’ll bent on the genre tonight. I don’t really have much like or exp in this department so what’s good?

Watched Athlete A on Netflix about the Nassar/USA Gymnastics/USA Olympic Committee scandal broke by the Indy Star here in Indianapolis.

I want to say I'm shocked, but I'm not really shocked at the nastiness involved here. It is just disgusting but all too believable to realize this is probably a pandemic in the sport and others like it.

Go Indy Star. Nail the fuckers to the wall.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Watched Life of The Party last night.

Fairly by the numbers comedy but a few good big laughs too, free on Amazon prime so no cost involved if you have it.

It'll pass an hour and half for you, with enough laughs to keep you happy for the most of it.

McCarthy does this kind of character so well, and can do the heartfelt bits perfectly too

You should check out Icarus on netflix about Olympic doping, really an amazing doc that starts out with one mission statement and mid-filming turns into something even more epic.
Also, just watched Doctor Sleep the other night, directors cut. Really enjoyed it as someone who's only read a couple King novels and loved the Shining as a teenager. Going into it with little idea of the plot I was drawn in for the 3 hour ride. Well made movie and held me captivated with what the shine could evolve to.

Finally got around to watching MIDWAY.

Damn, you know Roland Emmerich can be quite hit and miss...but this was really excellent. Just a really well made WWII flick, about an incident I never knew the full particulars about. It also doesn't shy away from showing the human side of the Japanese characters, and even takes the time to not frame them as full tilt cartoonish villains, but people fighting for their Emperor, whether they disagree with him or not. That was a nice part of it, as was beginning it with the Intelligence Officer in Japan interacting with Yamamoto to help bookend that this was something that a lot of the Japanese military machine hierarchy KNEW was a mistake, and Hirohito pushed it anyways.

Oh shit he is pissed off! Finished 6 at like 11:03pm and now the search function doesn’t work. I guess HBO is on eastern time so they weren’t fucking around when they said till 7/1. Damn I was kinda looking forward to New Nightmare to...

Ok search is back. Hmm I wonder why they only got rid of 6 and NN? 1-5 still up. I find that strange. He is all kinds of pissed off atm.

NEW NIGHTMARE is literally the best one since the first. The Meta-ness of Freddy hunting the cast and director in their real lives was so great at the time as a way to break out of the rut the series had fallen into.

Naked gun is hilarious. My kids saw the bit where he messes up the apartment he's searching, that piano starts and they were in fits. Also the microphone in the bathroom... awesome.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Guys! I did the TikTok challenge and watched the opening of the movie Love on Netflix. Uh, guys, W the ever loving F! DO NOT, repeat DO NOT put that on if you have any children around. And hooboy, it opens with, and gets right into the action! How the hell is that allowed on Netflix?! Does Netflix allow porn?

On a side note, Gaspar Noé is a flippin' weirdo, but you should definitely watch one of his earlier masterpieces, Enter the Void. It's, like, far out man.

Yeah I watched it last night too. It wasn't bad. Good concept, well directed/shot/acted etc. Nice action scenes.
A few holes in the script and a few jumps where maybe an extended version will fill in some details. Some of it was telegraphed beforehand but oh well.
A little bit hit-you-over-the-head-with-the-message but still quite enjoyable. Not at all subtle about being open for a sequel. I think I read somewhere online they were aiming for a trilogy.

Would I watch a sequel? Yes.

Seven massive gut wounds out of ten.

Two movie nights

Bad Boys 3.
Urgh, boy was this a disappointment. The hit the comedy notes well enough I guess but just....no in general, totally failed to capture the magic of one and two.

Tag.

Very silly comedy, loosely based on a true story (the end scene showing some of the real guys tags was ace, and the credits are worth watching just for....wtf? Sake.
It was free on prime, wouldn't pay for it
