Was riddled a few pages ago. The answer I originally gave was aids or STD's (which imho is still the best answer ever) but the true answer was counterfeit bills.

1) He stole it.
2) He used the American system where he sold his old car (which happened to be worth more than 5k$) to the dealer and bought himself another car for it.
