I'll step back for DK.

you only get to use the scales once. if you weigh for each supplier you are using the scales ten times...I think that's what the riddle is.
if you could use it to measure for each supplier...then the above idea is nonsense, because you just weigh all the bars for each supplier.
The closes I got to was to split the suppliers into two groups and weigh one group. if it is correct you can use those bars as a standard and then use a balance scale to find the dirty tricksy supplier. If the group chosen is lower in weight, use the alt group as a test case....
Hold on one moment...
Okay 10 suppliers 1 bar from each supplier...
Split the suppliers into two groups of 5. Mark all the bars so it is obvious where the bars come from(obvious). On the balance scale swap bars from one side to another and the moment the balance shifts you've got the culprit, call the marines!

On a similar vein, you have two pieces of string and a box of matches. If one end of either piece of string is lit on fire it will burn out in one hour. Neither piece of string burns at a reguler rate. That is, 90% of the string may burn in the first minute and the remaining 10% in 59 minutes. You have no idea how the burn rate varies.
Using only these two pieces of string and the matches, how would you time 45 minutes?

Does someone remember this one? I don't think there's a confirmed solution out, so here's mine:
Light the first string on both sides, and the second one only on one side.
After the first string has burned down (half an hour) you light the second one - which still has half an hour to burn - on the side not burning.
The remaining amount of time till the second string has burned down is 15 minutes.

the closest we got was infinite / lots of matches(which works), but that got taken away. BTW the strings do not burn evenly so the above will not work. Gwynn needs to post the answer soon, I think I'll PM him.

I see...My way would work for a balance scale thingy
And anyway..are you asking me to read any but the latest post? Wat?
Okay Dkt needs to post one...Cause is banned from posting riddles cos he lives on planet riddle too hard

I think it does work. The solution isn't about cutting the strings in half which would lead to a wrong conclusion.
The point where the flames meet isn't the middle, of course.

True, that might be the answer. Makes sense.
I also gave an answer which involves using the stand of the sun, with shadows by the way.
And Dk, do give a new riddle, damnit!

What is ...
More powerful than God himself,
More evil than the Devil,
The rich want it,
The poor have it,
And if you eat it, you'll die?
Four members of a fellowship must cross a dark tunnel with a single torch to re-unite with the rest of their party..
Aragorn can cross the tunnel in 1 minute.
Legolas can cross the tunnel in 2 minutes.
Gimli can cross the tunnel in 4 minutes.
Frodo can cross the tunnel in 5 minutes.
The tunnel is very narrow, so they can walk alone or in pairs, but no more than two at the same time.
If two friends are walking together, they walk at the speed of the slower one.
They must use the torch while walking through the dark tunnel.
The torch will be extinguished in 12 minutes.

The second is rather easy if you are willing to think about it for a time, and Lisheo already answered it, so I'll try answer this one

My first guess would have been gold (or money) but the poor don't have that, since else they wouldn't be poor... love was my next thought, but you can't eat that, so that's not correct either.
In fact, this is turning out to be rather hard... so not gold or love... what do the poor have besides love? Alcohol? I can believe it's alcohol, but then your riddle seems a bit weird since most rich people actually do have alcohol.
But I'll stick with that guess: is it alcohol?

Nothing is more powerful than god, nothing is more evil than the devil, the rich want nothing, the poor have nothing, and if you eat nothing you'll die...makes sense to me:P
