Ah, k

I'm against the hype of Dan Brown, so I won't read his books. Stupid? Yes. Am I missing out on much? Perhaps. Do I care? Not at all.

If I got all lefts and rights correctly Harry wants Steak. But Illy's answer seems more true based on reality, so he can give the next riddle if it's correct
Also, could someone say:
1) If Frook's answer to Mappo's riddle is correct? (I guess it is, since I would've done it the same way, but then I though that his weigh 1 is actually already 2 weighing times)
2) Whether Beru's answer of Illuminati etc is supposed to make sense as an answer to Mappo's older riddle?

Negative Mcflury once you split into three groups you only need to weigh once to find the odd group. If you pick a normal group and the one with the heavy marble, you know which is heavy. if you pick both normal the scales balance so the set of marbles you did not weigh holds the heavy one. there are only two possible combinations...I think that's a little better explained
BTW I too was a little confused about the illuminati, but I thought I'd let it slide

Ah, lol, you're using that kind of balance... myeah, I was using a digital weigher, then you have to weigh it all multiple times

Yes, in that case you are correct. (yet another proof that progress is not always better

And I'll check the meal thingy tomorrow again... see if I find the right answer then. else I'll ask you to write it out in detail

You purchase bars of iron from ten different suppliers. You than smelt them and manufacture weapons for the malazan marines. However recently the marines have been complaining that thier swords are shorter than regulation demands. Someone is skimping on the deal. Each bar of Iron should weigh 100 kg. Whoever is skimping is doing it well. You cant tell by the use of you normal measures or sight who is selling you underwight bars. Even a driss mage failed. The marines thinks its you and are coming to cusser you. Luckily after a night of praying shadowthrone grants you the use of the balance of shadow. Its really just a modern electric scale but because of convention it must be labelled with the words shadow. Being a bastard and mad however shadowthrone will only allow its use once. Finf the tru culprit and tell the marines quick!

someone suggested putting them on a scale one by one, so that technically it's one measure.
or you measure half, and then guess the one supplier out of 5. it's a 20% chance of being right.

Harry went out to dinner with his friends Larry, Barry, and Gary. Harry sat across from Gary. At Gary's right, opposite Barry, sat Larry. When the waiter came for their orders, Larry and Barry ordered steak. Gary chose fish, and Harry (who likes to be difficult) ordered like this: "Unless the man at the left of the man opposite the man who ordered fish is not having what the man across from the man at the right of the man at my left is having, then I'll have what the man across from the man at the right of the man opposite me ordered. Otherwise, bring me the fettucine alfredo." Assuming "right" and "left" is from the viewpoint of the diners, what did Harry order?
Okay, so here is how I solve it:
First you got to have the places at the table right. I basically drew a rectangular, and starting at the top, clockwise you ave seated: Harry (at top), Larry (at right side of table), Gary (bottom table) and Barry (Left side table).
Now. When harry says 'the man at the left(=L) of the man opposite(=H) the man who ordered fish(=G)' he actually says ' he actually says 'unless Larry'
'is not having what the man across from(=G) the man at the right(=H) of the man at my left(=L) is having' means 'is not having what Gary is having'
Ah yes, I see it now. I misunderstood the english. Silly me. 'Unless Larry is not having what Gary is having, I'll have blabla; otherwis I'll have the fettucine alfredo', and since L and G are indeed not having the same, H wants the fettucine.
Okay, so my mistake was that I translated the english incorrectly

Would it be wrong if I said you take one random bar, put it on the Balance of Shadow and hit the 'tarre' key after which you just place all other bars on it, one by one, to see if the weight on the Balance of Shadow reads '0'. The one where it doesn't do so is screwing you over and diserves a sharper up his arse.
Or would that count as using the balance 9 times?

Sorry folks this is my fault. One corerection s needed.

He was also kind enough to share with you that the queen of dreams has divined that whoever is cheating you is selling you bars one killogramme short Find the true culprit and tell the marines quick!
Using the scale only once means you put what you want on it. Press the button and you get a weight reading. Thats it. No adding or taking of while its on.

A hint. Theirs really only three important parts to the riddle.
Ten suppliers.
Queen of dreams says one supplier is giving you 99kg bars, not a 100.
Shadowthrone gave you the balance of shadow which may only be used once

Got it. You put a different numbers of bars from each supplier on the scale at once, and then the odd number will point to who has been cheating you.
I think.

bah...
You put on the scale...
10 bars from supplier number 10
9 bars from supplier number 9
8 bars from supplier number 8
carry on till
1 bar from supplier number 1
Weigh the lot...if the difference is beteen what should be there and what is there is 3 then its supplier number 3, if its 5 then its supplier number 5 and so on and so forth.

Whew, that was a tricky one!
I guess it's Lisheo or dktorode's turn now... fight it out amongst yourself, but I found dktorode's answer the best one (since I actually understood what he was saying
