You may want to raise the difficulty Roldom. Not sure about you, but I mistakenly played the first 100 days of the game with the damage done to myself down to 1/4 -- I hardly ever died. Aside from that, Swadian knights are the best in game, so it isn't surprising that your wiping the floor with them. There is also the fact that there are only 75 units on screen at a time, so if you were to wipe out the enemies first wave, form back up and do it again, odds won't mean that much.

Tried a modpack, but it crashes - and the fixes to up the allocation of RAM to a single application don't work for me for some odd reason. I blame Steam.

I had a few errors with my mods, and in my google search for answers i found out that the steam version is littered with mod problems compared to the download from taleworlds.

SO, I've spent the frst two nights of reading week beating Dawn of War II. it's pretty sweet.
Started Chaos Rising last night, too. I didn't carry over my squad from the vanilla, b/c CR is steam version and the vanilla is *ahem* well, not steam.
Therefore, I lost my 3 souped up Terminator squads, Tarkus doesn't have Plasma anymore, and it's insanely difficult, though fun.
Question for those who've played this: is the librarian any good in this game? I only used him in the one mission where he was mandatory so far, and he strikes me as pretty useless. does he get better?>

I honestly can't remember.... so I logged into it and checked. I specced him fully in the Stamina tree for heals, just to keep the FC on his feet in the bossfights, and also spend loads of points in Will (up to get the Teleport). Specced in melee up to Avenging Blows, should maybe have maxed out Will instead for better cooldowns on the healing.
EDIT: also, when I check the squad load-out screens, I have regular armour equiped on all my dudes, of around level 15, passing the level 24-28 Terminator armour by. Much prefer the percentile gains on regular power armour for most of my squads (specced stamina + ranged on everything but Thaddeus and FC) over the melee stuff.

see, the one thing I like in the vanilla for Terminator armor was the 100% resistance to knockback/knockdown.
I had my FC wear a level 7 armour for most of the orifinal, b/c it gave him total resistance to knockback, which was awesome in 90% of bossfights.
Also, Thadeus as Assault terminator=win. made my life so much easier in the last mission in the original.
That, and I can't believe they got rid of the strategic assets in CR. and no multiple deployments per day. sigh.

They'll bring strat assets back in Retribution - holdings will give you access to extra units, or something.

seriously, I think I may need to pre-order retribution. CR's campaign was waaaay too short. though the Carrion missions were stupid awesome. but, unlike the original, there was never really an issu or not having time to do everything. they needed more side missions.
Also, corruption is cool, but it's waaaay too ez to stay pure, just playing the game. I think i'm gonna try a playthorugh where I load out on corruption gear, but do all the retribution missions in-game, and see how i'll end up.
and retribution... 6 campaigns, strat assets, AND ork pirates? seriously, i'd want it just for the Ork pirates. Orks were always my favourite in Dark Crusade. Which is probably what i'll be playing to kill the time. I never did get to that Chaos and Eldar playthrough....

Hmm, I'm a much bigger Soulstorm fan, myself, thanks to the larger scope. And sisters of battle.
I wouldn't expect too much from Retribution. For the price of an expansion I think the campaigns will not be 10 missions each, not by a long shot even. I expect 6 mini-campaigns of 5 missions each.
Relic already announced they will start work on DoW 3 now with part of the dev team of Retribution, so perhaps they'll do a dark crusade/soulstorm world conquering game as a last expansion to bridge the gap... or maybe not, if they reckon the online community can survive until DoW 3. I heard the ranked matches had all but died a month or two before Reckoning's beta went live.

never got into Soulstorm--work got in the way, nad then my external where I kept it died. I was still onmy first playthrough when that happened. i had taken 2 planets by then--my starting one (I played as Orks), and the Imperial one (with IG and SoBs). so, i took down half the sides at that point. I'll need to revisit that. we'll see if i'll have enough time this week.

Ouch. Been playing the Shogun demo for 2 hours. Had to storm a castle... and got my ass handed to me on a silver platter with some cherry blossoms on top. That one really hurt. Not one unit got past the first wall despite the AI giving me an awesome hero unit (small units, bit like Medieval 2's Sherwood Archers) and battlefield ninja, who are teh sneak.
The field battles they feed you are so far not that hard, tho.

I've been dabbelign with EU3 - In Nomine on the mac lately. Great fun all in all once I understood the mechanics of it. Still, it would seem that the world outside of Europe is severly underdeveloped.
Still, I'm slowly conquering the middle east with Milan turned Italy right now. Annoyingly, Portugal Castille and France have a three way, rock solid alliance and seem to be well on their way of collectivly colonizing the entire new world. I would have tried challenging them if not for my need to keep massive armies ready in case Austria makes another attempt at Gortz and Venize, not to mention the soldiers I use to quell riots and muck around with the Timmurids. I just can't prioritize building a navy sizeable enough to challenge that of Castille and Portugal.
I quite enjoy the challenge of it

Hearts of Iron, Crusader kings, Victoria....any Paradox game, really. kind of like Rise of nations, too I suppose, though more heavy on the state-based and history and diplomacy.
or, think Total war with the tactical battles ripped out, and the rest expanded to be made complex enough to reflect the actual inner workings of a state. esp in Victoria.

With large focus on trade, economic management, research and diplomacy.
Happily, France has now taken full control of the Holy Roman Empire, wresting the throne from Austria. Being a valued member of said empire ensures any war on me by Austria now will be answered with the endless legions of France.
