strategy games for us that like games where 1000ands die

Played the historical battle yet? Had 2 cracks at the first one, and lost both, not easy.

The mod guys on TWCenter have opened the entire grand campaign of the demo though, so you may want to check that out.

Not sure about whether to order it though, for the first time though, it has made me consider multiplayer on there. I really don't know much about Japan at this time period which equally doesn't draw me, and draws me in as an easy way to learn. The modding options are supposed to be on a par if not superior to NTW, which is probably a good thing. Didn't get NTW in the end, and havent checked out the mods for them so I don't know to what extent fun stuff can be done with it.

The battles are apparently scripted in the demo... might take a look at TWCenter :)
I can really recommend reading some stuff on the Sengoku Jidai period. Tis a period of ruthless warfare, low betrayals, futile gestures and great men - a bit like a fifteen sided Roman Civil War :)

can anyone suggest a decent turn based stratagy like Homm and age of wonders?

I think it overtakes vanilla, in general.

I'd say copy your Rome installation into a backup directory for easy restoration when you want to play regular again.
Also take note of any registry changes.

I know the majority of you are PC gamers and thats where all the good strategy games are but my PC can barely unmodded R:TW.

DO any of you know of any 360 strategy games?

And I think they released StarCraft for N64.....

EDIT: also, Supreme Commander 2 (I think) was released on a console. possibly the 4th Command and Conquer game, as well (not sure)

As a general rule, strategies run into the "KB+M" limitation, though....

afaik red alert 3 was done reasonably well on ps3 (i had ra on my psx and it was playable)
dont get the last tiberian game, pants
think im gonna try europa barborous mod on a clean install. also maybe the warhammer one, morbid curiousity

really adds far too much detail to the game.
I'm sure it makes it considrably more educational and accurate but jesus its over the top!

going to go for rtr or spqr i tihnk instead

So ive done some reading and it seems the CandC games plus Halo Wars and Middle Earth 2 are the only games that are available. I shouldnt be surprised given the awkwardness of putting a PC format onto a console, where the money is, but there isnt really anything.

Anyone know of any old PC RTS/ strategy games with low specs that I could sink some time into

Europa Universalis 3 + expansions. when you've mastered that, get the magna mundi mod, which adds another ten layers of complexity.

I'm trying to follow the path of Peter the Great, but those mongolian Khanates and their fucking cavalry. And now the Swedes are all up in my face too!

Has anyone managed to get a hold of Shogun 2 Fall of the samurai (TW stand-alone expansion)? I loved Shogun 2 (my second favorite in the series, after Rome of course). I'm not sure if I should dish out cash right away for this, as there seems to be a lot of change in terms of tech and political management. Less politics and more guns by the looks of it. To the players of TWEmpire, you understand how guns can fundamentally change the feel of the game. Looks good overall I guess, but I was hoping to get an opinion from the malazans if possible.

Not 360, but Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI was released on PS2 and Wii if you had one of those and are into beautiful, slow-paced, complex turn-based strategy games. It's probably closest to Shogun 1/2 (which I've never played) except that it doesn't have seperate screens for development and combat - army moving and fighting happens on the same tile map as the cities sit on with no discernible break in provinces.

Other idea: Is the 360 compatible with regular xbox games? There was an xbox game called Kingdom of Fire: [insert subtitle I don't remember] that was a strategy-action-rpg game. Think Dynasty Warriors but you switch back and forth from controlling your character in battle to ordering squads of knights and dragons to move/attack/heal/etc around the battlefield. It's old though, so you'd probably have to get it off ebay or something, unless they made a modern sequel.
