So started a roman cmapaign, 50 turns in had to concede to the cpu. Spent to many soldiers against barbarians then the greeks come out of nowhere with a giant stack. Now that i have a better handle on some of the game mechanics should go smoother. The macro side of this game is huge (not that i mind),

Homeworld is getting a prequel: Deserts of Karak
Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand I miss the RTS Genre. Happy to see any decent offerings. On the other hand why on earth would a homeland RTS be set on a planet. I know the story, I know how it ties in but its a huge change. It looks like the mehcanics are essentially unchanged. You will get a mothership on wheels instead of one on ion engines.

I suppose it's based on the Kiith Conflict?
Sounds uncomfortably close to C&C4.

Conquest of Elysium 4 is fun if you like turn based strategy. I tried playing as a witch. Summoned a creature from a swamp. Didn't take the time to check what kind of attack it used. A massive cloud of poison. It was incredibly effective, killing most of the enemy army in a single attack. Problematically it also killed most of mine, Including my main commander. So, new game.

Seconded. It's very different to most RTS out there - the closest I can think of is Sins of a Solar Empire but that's a space 4X.
You have a mothership which is immobile (or barely mobile in Homeworld 2) which is your hub. You have other vessels built to do certain things in various classes (fighter, corvette, frigate, capital and super-capital). Each vessel has a strength against one sort of ship but is weak to another (so for instance you could mass destroyers and they'll decimate frigate formations, but will lose out to massed fighters and corvettes because their weapons can't track small vessels for shit). Having a 3d plane of movement is very important as well - a lot of the heavy ships have light armour on the top, bottom or rear and heavy armour on the front or sides, so positioning your units ahead of an attack is critical. Other than that it is very standard RTS in terms of 'harvest stuff, build stuff, kill stuff' but you can't just bum rush through the game; it's very unforgiving if you try to do that.

Hegemonia: Legions of Iron also had that "RTS in space" vibe. So did Star Trek: Armada. But few others.

Got a little bit of play time at work today,
Have a powerhouse army, the faction leader is the general, with his unit on 3 gold chevrons, he's a muktistar general badass.
3 units of catapharacts, all on 2/3 silver chevrons.
The rest are cavalry archers or persian archers, several on one gold chevron, everyone on at least one silver.
Just looped that army way up through old pontus while the greeks were throwing every hoplite the had east to try retake palmyria and hatra and room out their west coast holdings. Next game time will be quick stabilise, then blitz east again and pinscher them.
Then south into egypt, the troops I'll be freeing up out of palmyra and hatra are very veteran so i'll be able to run rolling attacks with 2 full stacks of super troopers through egypt and hopefully get my teeth into some romans.
Curious as to how I'll handle them tactically, their infantry can move a lot quicker than the hoplites but will still be heavily armoured. And they have decent cavalry options.

Yeah fighting Romans can be hard. If they have got the praetorians, you might struggle, but your archer chariots (you have them, right?) behind your hoplites should take care of them, maybe get some slingers/spear throwers/archers or whatever to counteract any archers they might have (as they are brutal against hoplites.)

Im parthia. Its horse archers and catapharacts.
Have rolled up the greeks in turkey, just damascus and another city to take to eliminate their presence in the east.
Plan to land an army on the greek homelands as well to teach the bastards a lesson.

Got another bit today, greeks held slot more of egypt than I expected, but they have need eradicated, their last stand was on cyprus.
Work interfered but I've just landed a full stack on the greek homeland, currently in the clutches of the Brutii, will find out in the next few days how I fare against the roman war machine.
Egypt are woefully easy to roll up

Not yet. My initial impression from reading about it is 'C&C4' - Homeworld had a similar sort of vibe with the mobile base (mothership) and whatnot, so I guess it'd make sense.
