Well, in theory when you pick up a rusty fork in game, you could alter the message sent to the battle.net servers to say it was a Mighty Axe of Awesome Fucking-stuff Uppery.
In theory.
Captain of Team Quick Ben. Also teaboy.

I'm still not sure quite how that works, but that sounds like an imposing weapon indeed.

I'm definitely looking forward to Inferno. Seems like it'll be a good challenge, especially in Hardcore.

Kanubis I get the impression that won't work.
Depends on how they run it that may not work. If they're serious about security and such, many of the chance and item calculations will be run on their end, and the visualisation is what will be run on your end. Similar to an MMO. And as I understand it that's more the method they're going for. They're talking about drop-in/drop-out multiplayer and a secure set-up, the smoothest versions of which would mean they host.
They're definitely keeping characters on their servers, and from what I know the best way to ensure characters are saved correctly and such if there are drop outs would be calculations their end, visualising on the user end.
Which means every movement is sent to them and every change in the game is sent from them.
*is very not pleased with the online only*
It won't even be a huge problem for me, I have more than enough cap and I'm a few hundred metres from the exchange. But I hate it on principle, and despite being in a prime spot I still get net outages. I also hate it for my friend who I was so looking forward to playing it with as this makes it completely unviable for her

Pff, it's just skill calculator.
What's the fun in that when you can't go try any of them?

The worst part of the whole always on internet required, there's no way alt can play this game debacle is that this is actually starting to look like it's going to be a very good game The skills work a bit differently and the fact that you don't have to pump certain skills and select your build well in advance will probably make it a bit easier, but the whole rune system and the different magic mechanics make it look like it is still going to have tons of depth.
Normally when everyone moans about restrictive DRM and other crap that developers and publishers are pulling I don't really care since I don't game much, but I really want to play this game

Someone will eventually come up with a private server peotocol for this. There's certainly enough demand.
It just might take 5 years of reverse engineering.

Took sweet all time for them to manage that with WoW, so we'll see I guess...

Anyone else in the Beta? I haven't had much chance to play it yet since I only downloaded it last night. I'll post an update once I've played for more than ten minutes.

Russian release, June 7th....
hmm, I wonder if that's gonna somehow accomodate the "always online" problem.
might be worth waiting.

Anyone know if they are planning to release this with all kinds of stupid 1st day DLC like activision and EA loves to do? I could pre-order it right now but I sort of want the whole package.

Blizz doesn't really do DLC.

Yeah, I want to have faith in Blizzards integrity but I know that Bobby Kotick is probably holding all the Blizzard staff's families for ransom right now.

And between no lan for StarCraft 2 (along with the stupid map mod restrictions) and no offline for Diablo 3 they are slowly eroding my faith in them.

See,I bought SCII retail, the day it came out. ANd played it religiously (in offline mode) for about 2 months.
then I went away to school, and it being first year law school, I haven't touched it for 3 months.
When I decided to log in again in late November, I had to wait almost an hour for a bazillion Battle.net patches, at which point I was informed that I can no longer use offline mode.
now, this may not be a problem when i'm in uni, where i have a high-speed DSL line.
but when I'm back home, where we have a single wireless router feeding signal to 5 PCs in the same house, that's a serious issue, because connection drops are frequent.
Untill Blizz starts making offline products again, they are not getting another cent out of me.
