I've got the mysterious stranger perk. Sometimes he shows up a lot other times he doesn't show up for days. But he is awesome when you target four different mobs for headshots and he shows up and finishes them all for you.
As for the dog companion, I still haven't found it. Where did you get it? Lamplight caverns? There's a lot of guard dogs there. Personally I started with the Ghoul from Underworld as my companion but I switched to the Paladin from the Brotherhood after I got access to the Citadel.
By the way, the Family is in a metro station somewhere close. I think it's connected with the metro place that houses the Ghoul that makes Superjet.

Dogmeat is found at the Scrapyard. A bit south south-west of minefield.

Can you have Dogmeat aswell as a humanoid companion? That would be awesome. I'm not inclined to give up my rocketlauncher wielding sidekick for a furry target dummy.

Not sure on that count. Don't think you can have both though...

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."
I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

You can have the dog and a humanoid at the same time as your followers. I had the Star Paladin and Dogmeat at the same time and they dominated the enemy.I would think 2 followers is the max but not sure.

Well I started out with Charon (I think that's how his name was spelled), a ghoul henchman from the Underworld in the Museum of History. He works on a contract so I think he'll work for any character, good or bad karma. But I had to let him go when I got the Paladin because she wouldn't travel with a ghoul.
A shame really, Charons combat shotgun comes in handy inside the Metro and in urban combat.
I'm going to go look up Dogmeat if I can use gim along with Paladin Star.
Too bad I couldn't recruit the Supermutant guy from Vault 87.

I'm not sure what you need to get the Supermutant, Faulke (I think), but he is very awesome. I am playing good so maybe thats what you need but he is awesome because he carries a gattling laser and has a lot of hp.
I finally beat fallout and they said there were like 200 different endings depending on how you play so I changed my karma up a bit post-save so I could check a few out. I made sure to keep a save before the final quest though so my super lvl 20 character could own the wastes.
Also the developers announced downloadable content (PC/XBOX), 3 different quests or such that occur all over the US. The first one in January takes place in Alaska, the second in Feb. takes place in Pittsburgh, and the last (so far) goes back to DC in March.

Gotta ask, do any of the human character allies you get actually use the weapons you put into their inventory? Because I have some women, who's name eludes me, who only uses a shotgun and a chinese sword, so she's useless at long range.

@Lisheo- I know the NPCs use the weapons you give them if they are unarmed to begin with but not sure what happens when they already have a gun.
@Silencer- I know about construction set and it sounds sick but I got the 360 version and we have to miss out sadly. I heard that it comes out this month so sometime soon. But its nice to see Bethesda really support the community with all the DLC and all

Back in the older days a valuable piece of advice like this would have earned you rep.

Beth is always good like that. They've caught a lot of flak over some issues with the game - like the fact that the PS3 version seems to crash a lot, and some n00bs don't seem to think Bethesda does patches. O.o
The Construction Set is one of the things that makes their games awesome. I mean, vanilla Oblivion would perhaps have lasted 6 months...with mods, it's basically eternal. ^^

The 200 different endings thing was a baldfaced lie. As far as i can tell. there are barely 2 endings. One, really. The good ending and the bad ending. The bad ending changes one line of the epilogue speech. also,
lisheo: the npc companion will use whatever weapon you give them that is better than their default base weapon (which will have unlimited ammo).
apt: fawkes only joins when you meet him again after a certain point in the main quest (right near the end) and only if you're not evil. He's pretty awesome though.
I don't like the oblivion style fast travel system. I miss the old overland map style, where you would get the random encounters (not always enemies). It felt more dangerous, like you might not actually make it if it's a long way off, rather than just teleporting there instantly.

I've tried equipping my companions with other weapons like miniguns, plasma riffles and rocket launcher. I've also tried to take away Paladan Stars rocket launcer because she kept messing me up with it in close combat situations (that bitch!). I've seen the weapons I've given the companions appear in their hands and them firing perhaps once with them, but it seems they prefer their normal weapons. It's a bit funny because Charon would use his combat shotgun at incredible long ranges and still take people out

that's weird. I never had that issue so far as i can recall. I only had 2 companions though, paladin star & fawkes, and i only changed the paladins weapons (honestly why would you change fawkes
), but she would use pretty much anything i gave her, so long as it wasn't something low-end. did you try messing with their combat tactics in the dialog tree?

Still have no companions, though I just did go to the Museum so I may go back to get that guy. Have now had 5 Mysterious Stranger visits, all of which were when the enemy was at 2 bars or less of health so it was a complete waste. Really wish I had that one back since I only have 4 more levels to go.
