You gotta find your Dad before you're allowed into the Citadel. But from there that only takes about an hour.
I re-rolled my character, this time a smoking female named Cunt. I reached the level cap in my other game and it completely bombed the game. There was no fun left when you are not building up to anything.

Gods. Some people just don't know how to play Fallout! (J/K)
But seriously, the idea isn't to max your character. It's to role-play. Be evil, be good, be neutral, find dad, ignore dad, kill dad. Don't go monster-hunting to try and max out your character....
I haven't had any time this week to play.
I'm still on level 6, and have just decided to save Megaton. (Or, rather, saving Megaton put me on level 6...)
EDIT: O.o 101 replies!!!! What a magic number for a Fallout 3 thread!
(Yes, I know this is post 102, but that's because the first post is called #1 - if you look at the number of replies to this thread it says 101 ^^ )

I'm not going monster hunting. But every time you explore and finish new quests you get big XP. And everywhere you go you have a new horde of big bloody monsters.
You'll see. You're only level 6. You still have all the fun of getting new perks. Once that runs out...

I don't know... the perks are indeed the cream of the crop levelwise, but aside from them, the SPECIAL system is pretty vanilla to start with.
I planned my character from start to finish, Bloody Mess is coming up and I'm a bit excited for that one, but then, it takes quite a while for something interesting to turn up, perk-wise. I think Bloody Mess, Intense Training for Intelligence, Intelligence and Endurance will be the picks up to 10, they're not that spectacular.
Coolest thing so far was getting the sniper rifle. Arkansas was a bastard to take out with a 10mm pistol, but I wanted to 'splode heads so badly that I did it. So far, I'm not all that impressed by the quests, although the Behemoth super mutant was pretty cool at the GDR building, Three Dog himself is rather meh... and why is there no salesman there?

Well to be fair I've been playing Neverwinter nights 2 and the conversations in Fallout and the whole good/bad system is pretty bland. The talking is done in like 5 seconds with the most important characters. Not saying I want huge conversations with every character, but the main characters coulda been more interresting.
When I got to the doctor on the ship it was like, your dads there! leave me alone! go away! I mean, she coulda told me more about where your mom and dad were from.

Wise words are like arrows flung at your forehead. What do you do? Why, you duck of course.

Am not there yet, but I guess it's down to the story driven rpg that NWN is, and the free roaming rpg that Fallout is. I'm personally far more a fan of the story-driven thingie, but the downside of such things is that there are houses you can't enter, zones that are limited and/or partly unaccessible etc. Downside is of course that in a non-free roaming world, your choices regarding influencing the invironment are limited, in that you always have to follow the main story branch.
Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting the new BioWare game, Dragon Age.

Hell yeah! They had a good story on it in last month's GI and it had me drooling with anticipation.

So last night I was walking downtown for some pizza at like 1am with some friends of mine,
and someone said, "I'm so hungry I could eat a whole pizza."
I said, "I bet I could eat 100 pizzas," and no one understood me. I was sad.

Now that My character is classsd as 'Very Evil - Urban Invader' he is superbadass. No really I kid you not, while walking around in Paradise falls to get the slave kids for the main quest one of the slavers randomly walked up to and said something like;
"Hey we found this on our last mission we were on. Someone as badass as you deserves it"
I think it was some ammo. So I was like Fuck Yeah! But then I wondered what would happen if I asked again. So I got more random stuff. I kept asking for about 5mins and he kept giving me stuff. I think it might be a glitch, non-stop he kept giving me stuff.
I think I ended up with about 50 more 5.56 ammo, 30 more 10mm ammo, 25 more shotgun shells, 7 more stimpacks, 4 more damage resitances, about 12 or so random bits of food, 3 nuke cola's, 1 purified water. I could have kept going but I got bored.
Oh and I have also slaughtered all of Tenpenny tower.
My plan now is to save up and buy the slave kids and take them to that place to get entry into. After that I will enslave one of the kids in their place, I already have a slaver waiting outside ready to help out.

That's weird, last night I added a good comment about the good/evil thing but it didn't show up?
anyway, briefly reposting the missing post: When you are classifed as very good (Paladin etc.) you also recieve things from the wastelanders who like what you do to help them, no glitch here though.

Yeah, I've been getting stuff for a while now. Just hit the Paladin on Karma.
I've now got Star Paladin Cross as a follower...but! Even better, I just found some experimental Power Armour, which is pwnage compared to the unrepaired stuff you get from anywhere else.
I also maxed out my small guns skill, sneak is at 96, and everything else except for Barter, Big Guns, Melee, and Unarmed is around the 40-60 range. I just hit level 13 today. I've done some of the main quest now, getting towards the end (hence my ability to use Power Armour). I'm still lacking in plasma weapons, but can now start to improve my Energy Weapons skill due to my Small Guns being maxed.
I can't say I care much for melee combat. It was satisfying at first, but now it's too hard to get close, and the Ripper and stuff just doesn't have a meaty feel to it like it should. It was something that I was afraid of, because realistically, swords and chainsaws should do a hell of lot more damage than a bullet ('cept a headshot). But they don't do enough, and it certainly doesn't feel more damaging.
Anyway, it is still bringing immense enjoyment.

I feel the same way about melee combat, expect for the shiskabob because it is cool to set them on fire and hit with the sword hehe.
I've maxed out lockpick, science, repair, and medicine. Getting lockpickto max is a good idea because when you can pick those locks there are usually very good rewards inside.
It is a great game in all respects, just have to balance my time between the games on my list hehe.

Am I right in my suspicion that The Dads voice is made by Liam Neason and the President is Malcolm MacDowel?

Damn this game is awesome. It's like a weird mix between the epic siize of World of Warcraft and the eerie creepiness of Resident evil.
I've been playing for three days and I still haven't figured out where Megaton is. The place is HUGE!
How many levels are there before you max out?

According to Bethesda the level cap is 20. I just got there today and the exp bar showed 21 but I don't think you can get to it. They say the reason to the cap is so that characters don't become gods, and to encourage replays trying new things.

Yeah, I was checking out my skills today and it tops at twenty.
So has anyone been doing exploring of the worlds size? How big is the place?

Big enough that I didn't see all of it after the entire main quest.
I think I racked up about 20 or 30 hours on the thing before I finished the game, level 17. I was kind of disappointed, not in the story, but in the way it starts to become rushed - you can no longer choose to ignore the story once you get to a certain point. Still, I suppose it has to be that way due to the nature of a story. It needs to have build-up and climax, and you can't just walk off in the middle of it or else it all falls flat.
I'm playing a new evil character now. ^^
It's pretty sweet because it's a totally different experience. And I really enjoyed the game last time, right through the whole thing - it's really awesome.
With this character, I'm going to ignore the main quest, and just explore and do side-quests. The map looks small at first, but shit there is one hell of a lot of stuff out there! The only annoying thing is having to do some of the main quest to get the power armor perk.
Oh well. It's a freaking awesome game!

I've been looking at the map... for the first time after playing eight hours or so, and I've been a ton of places so far without even reaching what I'm assuming is Megaton. I'm level 6 and I still haven't even completed my first main quest, finding the place
I'm wondering. no matter where I go, I can see the silhouet of a really big tower, guessing it's a scyscraper. Who lives there? The president?
