This could happen but it's a little too 'convenient' to count upon it in any way, shape or form. First things first, take out the names and give me a reason why they would fight.

Someone being the Queen in High House Shadow does not mean they have any power over Shadowthrone. Queen does not mean they get an equal share in the decisions either, Shadowthrone would still be the ruler of Shadow. I assume the titles are merely present as titles rather than affording any particular significance, at least that's my theory. Queen does not trump Assassin, interestingly we've yet to see Cotillion's control over Shadow. A more indepth look at the intricacies of the houses, what powers are afforded and who gets them would be nice to explore in Dust of Dreams.

If anything, Itkovian's return as a deity with little of his own will trapped inside a barrow was decidedly depressing.
I maintain that the emotional impact of their personal sacrifices, to the reader, is lessened as a result of their resurrection. Although, in retrospect, Coltaine may have had an inkling that he didn't need the necklace thing.
I agree with your emotional impact statement. I think TtH, and the series, would have been stronger without the Redeemer and the Dying God, I've yet to re-read to gauge a more accurate, and distant, opinion of this however.
I have a question: What do we think the pacing of DoD will most be like out of all of the books?
A consistent burner like HoC? A slow build up but a heavy finish like TtH?

I agree, the Redeemer/Dying God thing did nothing for me. The only thing the story-line did that was theoretically important was throw in a challenge to Nimander and his family, and really, other things could have been done instead.

Your question El Dance'o. . . . . I thought SE has said he is going to load up this next book with so much fact and threads coming together so the end book is all about action and it all coming togther. I would imagine with this in mind it will be a fact finding slow burner of a session that will invoke at lease 12 re reads.

But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Not sure if I should bring up a post several pages ago that most people seem to have just passed by, and probably it's been ignored exactly because it's so clear to everyone... But I just happened to be proud of a certain realisation when I read that particular line back in tBH so I can't let it pass without saying something (stating the obvious? perhaps). The line was actually: And one by one, the gardens died. Not referring to any actual gardens in the moon, but to the conversation between Crokus and Apsalar in GotM that involved imagining the moon to have those beautiful gardens.
That said, all the speculation has been very interesting to read.
Personally I hope Mappo and Icarium will find each other again at some point, as well as Kalam & QB, and that we'll see Brood owning hard.
And some more on Silchas Ruin. <3

I absolutly hated the shake part of RG. It served no purpose at all. The only thing we learned was that there's KCCM eggs in the lether sea... that's about it. It was even worse than the Redmask storyline.

Apt, also President of the WHRF...
I liked the way Deadsmell turned up and told them all about their heritage - and the 'shores' not being literally sea shore, but the shores of Darkness, as they were all decended from Tiste Andii... they just didn't know it.

so does rake's ascension and the return of MD mean that the andi and their remnants are somehow being re-invigorated to resume their war against the kc? why did the kc support redmask? were they simply using him as a pawn to slaughter the awl utterly? is it signifigant that their remnants remain with tool and the imas? the awl had fought the kc for an eternity.

The Andii people number in the thousands, probably under ten thousand. Can't remember if a number/estimate of the population is mentioned in TTH but there aren't many of them. Of ocurse millions of them could be living in KG, but the Andii living on Wu couldn't handle a small colony of KCCM right now, let alone a full on war. And why would they wage war on the KCCM? The orginal battles were fought for the right to settle on Wu and not live under the yoke of the KCCM who by then killing themselves in an endless civilwar that probably made the Tiste wars seem like childsplay.

We have no way of knowing what was going on. They certainly weren't out to destroy the Awl, at least it wasn't a priority. They were serving Redmask and that's the extent of the knowledge we have of them.

By "their remnants" I assume you're talking about the Awl children at the end. I think they were spared because Toc gave his life to save them, but I'm not sure any other Awl will be left alive. The White Face came to answer the betrayal of the Grey Swords with slaughter. I assume that the White Face will be putting every man, woman and child to the sword. Slaughter answered in kind.
And the Awl legends of fighting the KCCM can hardly be called an eternity of fighting. The KCCM were just passing through, if I remember... Ruins? explanation correct, they didn't even much care that they were losing numbers to the pesky humans, they were running from the Ice and the remaining Edur.

I seem to remember Endest Silann (or maybe Korlat) putting the Andi number in Black Coral at 1100.

I'm of the opinion that the KCCM's were scouts sent to judge the human's capabilities and maybe stir up trouble among the awl and letherii to soften things up for the KCCM armies.

Things I want to see in DoD:-
Kallor - one of my favourite characters post TTH.
Gothos - love any segments where he is present. He just seems very central to everything. Collecing Azath Houses? Woah!
Dassem | Hood - how will their relationship stand now? New God of Death? Hood's Wife?
Paran - the little hint with Picker was too little!
What the Queen of Dreams is up to with Dunsparrow.
Tehol, jsut for the funnies if nothing else
Mael - what was his game trashing Dassem's ship, and why do ST and Cot think that Mael is a slowcoach? Also, Mael imploding Mallick would be cool!
Silchas Ruin - some more insight into the Andi history; how was he used, and how will the return of MD and departure of Rake affect him?
Fiddler and QB - well d'uh!
Icarium - some hint as to what he was up to.
Karsa and Samar Dev finally get it on
Things I don't want to see in DoD:-
Weak 'out of thin air' storylines like the Dying God and Kelyk.
Cutter. Or Crokus.
Clip.
Nimander and co, unless it's part of Silchas' story.
Annoying little kids such as Snell and Harllo.

SE used the phrase 3 times at the end of TtH, when Challice jumps out of the window with her snowglobe. "Dust of dreams, will you now command the wind? Dust of dreams, is it not time to set you free?" Then, 5 lines later..."Dreams will not linger, but their dust rides the winds forever".
No idea what it could be about though. Maybe the T'lan Imass and their aspirations?
