WJ was sworn to hood, but i thought that ended long ago... his soul must come out, yes but it has no ties to the world or hood. im with the moderator formerly known as abyss on this one. he'll just go to bridgeburner dreamland

apsalar and apsal'ara in a showdown would be pretty mint... i wonder what curdle and telorast would do

Moderator formerly known as Lisheo, believe it or not.

Whiskeyjack was sworn to Hood, but no longer. Although I'm curious as to what will happen to Dunsparrow now. If Hood is taking a bow off this mortal coil, will she be useless to the QoD now?

Was she ever useful to begin with? The QoD isn't really all that involved in the war against the CG, and with 2 books left to go we can hope this is going to focus on that, so I doubt we'll see much from her...

Well, she only let Leoman in because he brought her. She originally wanted Corabb, and we've seen from GotM that if a God gets the tool of another God in their hands, things can be unpleasant for the other God, ie ST and Oponn.

OKay, new to this forum and all... hoping no one else has asked this question but...
In Toll the Hounds there was one spot where ST was musing and suggested that it's time for a Queen in the Shadow House...
WHO THE HELL WOULD THAT BE?!
I mean think about it, Erikson has created alot of strong female contenders for the leading lady in House Shadow. Here's some of the ones I think would fit the bill:
Apsalar: First that comes to mind. Shadow attachments galore, beautiful, deadly and practically ascending on her own anyways.
Laseen: Indulge. How kick ass would it be if Surly got back into the frey on the same side as ST and COT? Not to mention the delicious chaos that would create in the Empire (Korbolo Dom taking over... Paran deciding that;s a bad idea... both Paran's returning to confront the #$%@$ Napan and kill him dead... and potentially leaving Tavore ruling the Empire?...Paran wouldn't do it I think, he wouldn't want the responsibility and he's ascended (or as good as))
Seren Pedac: Not only betrothed to a Tiste Edur (aka master of the realm) but also plaything of the human warrens.

Thoughts?

Could you give us a quote of ST saying he wanted a queen? I'm guessing he was joking, ST doesn't like to share his power...

It was more bantering between Cotillion and ST rather than anything serious... although with ST and Cotillion, you never know.

Quote

" and that constitutes summoning? I believe I have also heard you musing on the "need" for a breathlessly beatiful Queen of Shadow, a slave to your every desire-"
" You were hiding behind the curtain!I knew it!"
" The point is, Where is she?"

Seeing how Trull without knowing it or wanting it managed to become Knight of Shadow, maybe Apsalar already is Queen of Shadow. She certainly has the skills for it.
" Ah, I despair, or I would if I cared enough. No, instead, I will make some ashcakes. Which I will not share."

Well, I can see how Shadowthrone might like the idea - I think it was more of a 'musing' than anything serious though.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

i find the prospect of a return from whiskeyjack slightly hammy. wish erikson would leave the dead rest. it takes so much from the pathos of the rest of the series. i also think hood has had his day in the sun as regards plotlines. paran and leoman will be the drivers of the action with st and cots lurking in the background as not so convincing puppeteers.

As much as I love WJ, and as I have said before, I totally agree. Enough with the resurrections!

Yep, just like the whole Hedge thing threw me, Whiskeyjack (and any other dead characters) coming back is really bending the universe.

Well, I actually like the idea that dying for a righteous cause can bring people back to live...

Look at Coltaine, look at Itkovian .... and tell me you didn't like the plot it gave

I didn't like the Redeemer storyline. And I am serious about that.

On to general speculation, which is somewhat lessened as many of the ongoing plots and questions will likely be taken up by ICE.

The 14th will meet up with Tool and co.
Mappo will continue the search for Icarium, though they may not run into each other until the final book.
ST, Cotillion, Edgewalker and QB will feature in some capacity, likely to do with the gate to SD.
Tehol commits the Letheri to the fight against the CG (or KC depending on timing) after talks with Tavore/Bugg.
The Errant launches plans for war on the younger gods (or at least on Paran)
Ganoes features in part of the book, possibly including the death of the Errant
The CG tries to recruit the Errant
Someone, either the 14th, Perish and barghast or Mappo and co. run into the existing KC
The Shake story is continued with the introduction of living KC

Wild rampant speculation:
The series ends with the CG trapped by the Azath made of stone soaked in dragon's blood.
K'rul is slain, but Icarium is successful in creating new warrens with his own veins so little changes.
The existing KC near Lether are about to hand everyone thier own rears until the short tails in the Imperial Warren step into the game.
Menandore is not dead.
One or more of the other dracnean soletaken is still around as well due to being d'vers.

If anything, Itkovian's return as a deity with little of his own will trapped inside a barrow was decidedly depressing.

I maintain that the emotional impact of their personal sacrifices, to the reader, is lessened as a result of their resurrection. Although, in retrospect, Coltaine may have had an inkling that he didn't need the necklace thing.

Coltaine actually outright told Duiker that he didn't need it. He knew he'd be resurrected, much like Sormo, Nil and Nether were. Any reader who has been paying attention knew that Coltaine would be back. There used to be a bunch of argument on whether or not Grubb was Coltaine reborn. Guess that's out of the question now with the actual Coltaine showing up in RotCG. I hope that we get to see more of Grubb in the next two books, perhaps see him come into his own sword-fighting wise. You figure that once everything's all wrapped up with the CG, that Tavore, Paran and their armies will go and take Mallick off the throne? By the time that happens, Grubb could very well be on his way to becoming First Sword, if not already there.

Blend = excited!!!

I thought that might be the case, but couldn't remember if he'd actually known for sure or not. Did Sormo actually make it? Something about the whole moth thing made me think that maybe it didn't work quite right.

Actually, I think Epiph is right. Something about the scene made it seem like maybe he wouldn't get resurrected. Perhaps he sacrificed his soul to do the moth thing that ended up saving (?) countless lives.

Now I might be completely wrong, but I thought I read in one of the books (where they go back to screw the Dogslayers all over, can't remember what book that was though) that Sormo became one with the land upon dying. As a result he couldn't be reincarnated (since he basically became some sort of spirit of the land, unlike Coltain and other dudes who basically shifted their souls into crows or ravens or whatever only to let those 'messengers' deliver the soul to some soulless baby).

Ah well, I might be wrong too. I loved Sormo... cool guy... strong mage.
