I would say to stress the responsibility aspect of your job. Which goes to show you can be trusted with sensitive work.

Something along the lines of,
I was entrusted with researching and assimilating sensitive data from multiple government/federal sources.

@Loki: if you still have the job ad or position description from your work there you should be able to use that as a base. Shiara is pretty good at that stuff and if you want a HR eye on it I am happy to help.

and on topic: I had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE day at work today - and I am working at home right now just to get things under control.

My charity underspent on it's main grant (read the one that keeps it afloat)..... by 50%. Big meeting on monday with the grants officer travelling 200 miles or so for it. Worst case scenario funding could go, along with my job on that basis. Dammit.

That is simple. Just mention that you worked for the police in a detail orientated role which you cannot speak any further about. If it is a team setting or time managerment or something, mention that as well.
