Think it depends on the individual. I've known them be just admin and bookings, and also known others who are almost gatekeepers to the doctors and want to know what your problem is (and judge how time critical it is) before they'll agree to book you an appointment. They don't tend to respond well to "I'll discuss it with the doctor" because I don't trust a receptionist's judgement of how time critical something might be when neither me or the doctor know the answer to that yet.

Ah, so over there receptionists can be qualified enough to do basic triage. Like in a hospital emergency ward.

Yeah, we don't have that at suburban medical practices.

Yeah, technically, the receptionists are only supposed to do administrative stuff and some minor things like preparing syringes and such here, but the ones at the office I have to go to for allergy meds are a particular mix of overeager and abrasive. She got as far as me saying "prescription", just took a look at my patient file and went "Oh, you're here for x!", and I had to explicitly stop her and tell her, "No, I'm here for Y and Z." Then she was like "But I can't write you a prescription for Z." (Note: the receptionists write the prescriptions if it's a repeat thing and the doctor just signs it.) So I'm like, you could the past two years, but nope, no further reaction or explanation. I've also had it happen that I asked for an appointment with the doctor and they deemed it not important enough to give me one, or completely ignored me when I asked something. They also need to be reminded half the time to give me something to cool my arm after allergy shots. The annoying part is, they're not the same with everyone, but I've yet to figure out the pattern. It's probably got something to do with who has private and who has state mandated insurance.

I then had to call another doctor's office because of stuff and also because I can't be bothered to drop by in person as I tried last week only to find out that neither the opening hours listed online NOR the ones they've got hanging on their own door are correct. Wasn't allowed to finish my sentence either and was told I need to come in in person. Yeah, how about you manage to communicate proper opening hours so people don't have to waste time knocking on closed doors?

To be fair, I am extra irate today as I've had to resort to expired cortisone pills to get through the weekend, though I like to think that I'm pretty good at not letting that show through.

I'd seriously just look for different doctors, but specialists aren't sitting on every corner, unfortunately.

It is going to get ridiculously cold.

That’s just here. For our friends up north it’s going to get ludicrously cold.

No, they only think they are. I've had a couple try that over the years and they've been met with a flat "Nope" on asking.

We are staring at a weather report that implies that my trip home form work today will be long, and arduous. And that it may impact my trip into work tomorrow.

Should be fun! Ugh.

I'm looking into a Blizzard outside my window. Cars slowly being covered by the snow.

I think they said we're getting 15 cm, right?

15-20.

I'm contemplating a more expensive, but less headache inducing journey home...we will see.

Snow forecast this weekend.

Now, I am all for snow, I love the cold.
But given how pathetically equiped the UK and Irish infrastructures are to deal with the weather this worries me.
Thursday night is my travel home flight, and I have many things to do this weekend.

For some reason I always envisioned Vancouver as being full of hipsters.

Someone just did the Math and the new single stage nukes (5KT) can be mounted on a drone. They have roughly 260 of said drones glancing at data too. Nobody confirmed this , but people did the math so tacnukes are the real deal.

That’s fun. :)

It's the middle of the Canadian winter and 1) it's sunny today; 2) I was out and about wearing a long-sleeved shirt without feeling cold; and 3) not a single snowflake this year.

I think temperatures dropped under 0 twice this year.

Take that.
