It's hard to find things disgusting anymore. I crossed the Rubicon when I read that Alicia Silverstone is a proponent of bird feeding a young child. I made the mistake of googling that and seeing video. Posted Image

On a serious note, babies and young ones getting colds and having green gunk ooze out of their openings is a good thing. It all works towards having a robust immune system as you age into adult hood. When I was a child (have five siblings), colds where a common thing every winter. I used to get tons of ear aches too (missed school on a number of occasions). Today, I rarely get a sniffle.

Trying to make two displays from two different manufacturers work together. Dell doesn't make the model I already owned anymore and compared to that any other in the same price range sucks. But I'm also too lazy to send this other one back only to hope to pick a marginally better one by chance on a second try. And I would feel silly if I were to use the bigger display to watch youtube videos while working on the smaller one because I prefer the quality.

Weather sucked today, resulted in me coming into work wet, we also got blindsided completely by a major issue with a sub contractor and incompetent management, which resulted in us getting loads of phone calls and no way to give an acceptable answer to anyone except that we are looking into it.

Entering Stage 1 of the seasonal cold. Given my dad was sick as a dog from teh weekend, it was only a matter of time. Throat sore since morning, been devouring extra-strenght Halls non-stop and drinking hot teas all day at work.

Also feeling very sluggish. Thankfully, nothing major coming up in the next 2 weeks.

My friend has this weird quirk that drives me nuts. We went to the movies last night together. She left work early yesterday because she was dizzy, said she still didn't feel well at the movies and messaged me after she got home to say she had vomited up her popcorn. So I messaged her this morning to see how she was feeling. She updates me on her situation, tells me she is taking a sick day etc. Then she asks how am I feeling. This always seems like such a silly response. I'm not the sick one. I had a reason for asking after her health. Just because I asked after yours doesn't mean you have to ask after mine. I guess it should bug me as much as it does but it does.

People sometimes feel self-conscious talking "too much" about themselves or their issues, and try to make at least a token gesture to balance the conversation to be more inclusive toward the other person, how they feel etc.

Can confirm, because I'm a person who does this. I think (for me) it's a reaction to knowing quite a few very self centred people and how much it drives me nuts, so I go a bit overboard sometimes worrying that I'm hogging the conversation and coming across the same way. It's probably part a nervous thing and part genuinely wanting to make sure you're okay too.

She could also be worried it was contagious, so she's inquiring whether she passed the sickness on to you.

Fair warning that the shit going around our community in the GTA is BRU-TAL. I mean I'm worse off because my daughter keeps getting sick (son is sick as well)....but yeah, other than my sinusitis and cold, my co-workers are reporting chest infections, strep, throat infections, and a few others things.

The flu may be mild this season, but the viruses going around are horrific.

Take care.

Oh boy, I've already used all my sickdays so I hope this doesn't hit me until the new year.
Although it looks like at least one person in my office is starting to get sick so I'm not sure how long I'll last. Everyone wants to use their sick days as vacation days so they come in even when dying which without fail gets me super sick.

Yeah, I THINK I've used all mine as well. Luckily my direct manager is pretty easy on me in that regard, so I think if I needed another day or two before the years end, I'd be okay.

Still, try your best to steer clear. It's not remotely fun, and everyone I know has these colds lingering for almost a month.

Ah that's nice, I wasn't sure what the office manager would do, I went over my sick days a month or so ago and apparently I lost a vacation day, so that was nice.

It's definitely not easy taking the GO Train everyday to steer clear, there's always someone coughing or sneezing around me. I'm beginning to think those surgical masks are a great idea

Damn.
FUCKING.
Cold.

I hate 'Realfeel' or 'Wind Chill Factor' numbers... -15 is bad enough, i don't need to know it feels like -27.

Agreed.

I'll add the fact that having a cold that's lingering while it's this cold is NOT pleasant.

I actually like those numbers, I find it's helpful when deciding what to wear. (Like if it's 0 but feels like -10 I'd dress a lot warmer). If there's no wind it can make a big difference and not be as bad.
Granted at the moment wind or no wind it's still fucking freezing out so it doesn't help much after a certain point I guess
