Very frustrated at the minute. Did a job interview of sorts just before christmas and thought it was basically a done deal. Had to follow up on some things in early january but once those obstacles were out of the way, it was simply a matter of the employer doing their bit on the paperwork side, and off we go. After a few weeks now of me trying to balance prodding them along gently, without seeming to pester them, I finally got a more definitive response (of sorts).
The guy who I would have been working for, just announced that he is leaving at the end of this month, and so he isn't sure about them taking on someone like me despite the fact that I could be working away independently until his replacement is in place. What's so frustrating is that the way he said it to me today was framed in a "it wouldn't be very fair on you" type of way. Which is shite, cos they could have had me in situ for nearly a month already, and I would have been well up to speed by the end of Feb, so his departure would have been a minor inconvenience to my role.
But now I'm stuck, cos I'd really like to work there (as it ties together my past education and experience with my newer career direction), but having waited the best part of 6 weeks for this to come to pass, I don't know if I can keep waiting indefinitely for them to decide if the job will happen at all now. What if they decide to hold off until the new guy gets established before allowing him to hire a person to work with, then you could be talking 3-4 months minimum.
So annoying.
