No, it was small, red, and chased after the nearest living thing. Damn you, Gordon Freeman.

Line dancing?

Miss Piggy imitation?

Take the hostage out of the equation?

...this is tough....

Super long D&D session yesterday when I wasn't really in the mood for it. It's the only problem when you have to book a month or so in advance and we host - you can't really wake up in the morning and go "actually, nah" when people have already travelled. Still kind of fun, but i think Fiddler and I had virtually become symbiotic by the end and were both in "In the nicest possible way, get out of my house" mode . The cat actually starts herding people in the hallway towards the door when he's had enough.

I am definitely one of those people who has to do a troglodyte impression and live in a cave without human interaction every so often just to relax. Ah well!

Not knowing how important it is for your D&D group to actually sit around the same table, I'm going to throw it out: have you considered playing online? It saves on travelling and everyone can laze around in their own place. I'm talking about using something like Roll20, where you can all connect to one online conference and use the site for maps and rolling dice and stuff.
It's probably not for everyone, but it's saved my D&D group. We all live too far apart to keep a regular playing schedule without, but using Roll20 the campaign's been running for four years now.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. We usually do sit round a table and enjoy it, this is the first time it's coincided with me feeling somewhat antisocial to be fair. We have a player who has a habit of making really dumb decisions - usually it's mildly amusing if a little frustrating, but when not in the mood it becomes an all out annoyance I don't have the patience for. Sure it'll be fine next time!

By way of example: antagonist calls for a one on duel with one of the party, states multiple times he'll kill the woman and child he's holding hostage if anyone interferes. What is it fairly clear you probably shouldn't do in that scenario? Posted Image

Well I don't know about things not to do, but here's what I would do.

Open a dimensional portal and summon a storm of Elder dragons

Dragons start flying reallllly low.

Hostage taker is bus looking at dragons.

I move fast, snatch hostages.

Sit back and watch barbeque

Watching my son eat a Nutella, peanutbutter, and chorizo sandwich with a side of corn relish and mayonnaise... 😨

I think I just threw up a little.

Discovered that yesterday. Mind is still utterly boggled that 1) it exists and 2) people buy into it.

What's with these monsters? D&D isn't short for Dice & Dominoes then? Or is this what people mean by Advanced D&D?

I looked it up. Browsing the website, hmm, anti-feminist rant, political think piece, something about immigrants, then saw this gem:

Quote

5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Feel Guilty About European Colonialism

Individual human rights are a Western invention

Then I looked at the authors bio:

Quote

Art Baker

Art is a reformed leftist, redistributing wealth from the rich to the poor via drugs and prostitutes, he now crusades against feminism, socialism and political correctness.

From Monday to Wednesday he identifies as female to perv on girls in public restrooms.

What a charming place.

Nothing better on a Tuesday night than having someone tell you they like that we're friends but have no interest in speaking to you often enough to know anything about you whatsoever. Same girl swore up and down 4 years ago while we were dating that I was the only one for her and that we should get married. Not sure if I dodged a bullet on this one, but i'm so tired of losing people I care about to fucking apathy. I feel like i'm on a one way street in giving a fuck about a large number of my "friends" and that's causing some serious depression like mood swings from time to time. Is it just that i'm older and that shit happens or is there something wrong with me... Fuck.

I think it is normal in your 30s. People are getting on with stuff - relationships, kids, homes and/or work. There isn't as much room for friends as there is in your 20s. For people at the same age who are single I can imagine it feels like a friendship wilderness at times. I'm 35, have a bunch of really close friends that I barely get time to speak to and see maximum 3 or 4 times a year and that's in a good year. I just try to make sure they know I care enough to cement the friendship down for when we come out the other side and have more time. Also at the same time I am shedding friends who don't gel anymore - people accumulated from previous jobs, old old old friends where there is really nothing left in common, life is too short to spread the effort too thin. And as I don't quite have kids yet I try not to take it personally when friends with kids/partners/busy jobs aren't operating in the same orbit anymore.

Fight for the ones you really care about, keep open to making new friends, don't take it personally if it is a lifestyle clash that is stopping it working but at the same time if you have some shitty habits then work on them (that's not an accusation, we all have them).
