The weather. Hot. Waaaaaaay too hot. Summer, go away. Please!

I want to complain about the heat but all winter long I complained about the rain. Do I want to be a hypocrite or not?

You should come live where I live. Then you get to compain about both at the same time. Example

Day before yesterday the weather really sucked. It was hot and sticky and nobody could relax. Then when I got out of the subway and started walking to my institute the rain came pouring down and drenched me totally. I think I caught a cold.

I think I will complain about the neighbour's dog instead. The fucking thing has been barking for the past three hours in the Balcony. I think the owners aren't home.

Edit: There are two of the damn things.

I know those feels. We've a few dogs on the street, you barely ever hear any of them except one across the cul-de-sac. That one's outside 90% of the time and just barks at anything, all the time. They really ought to pay the poor thing a bit of attention every now and again.

Signed up for a beach volleyball team and my team keeps not showing up. Games have started and out of the 5 times that we were supposed to play we only played 1. Its bumming me out as I wanted to get some exercise, have fun and meet new peeps.

A friend of the family who I grew up with has passed away after struggling with Lupus. She was only 41. Really sad.

I am in a sticky situation. I own two pairs of shoes., plus an archaeological specimen which might have been a pair of shoes once. Today after I had walked around 2 minutes after i left the house, one side of my shoe just came apart. I went back, wore my other pair and left. On the way home a huge downpour started and I walked home in squelching sneakers. So now I have one out of commission pair, one that will never dry by tomorrow. So now I am apparently doomed to wear the ancient relics and hope they don't fall apart.

I have a friend who keeps talking herself down from doing what she really wants to do.

She always wanted to do a bachelor of education and teach in Japan. Life got in the way initially but now she is in a position to go to uni and get her degree as well as get properly certified in Japanese.

Even more, her husband is willing to support her in this. He is even already looking into Japanese language night courses and is willing to move to Japan indefinitely (despite having only just received his Australian citizenship a month ago).

Some of it is due to the usual fears of failure and the difficulty of losing her income in order to study. I think I have helped her think through these but the other issue she has is that her and her husband plan to start a family in the relevantly near future and she is worried about raising a child in Japan who isn't of Japanese decent - whether they will be treated differently or disadvantage. I have no advice or experience on that front and I honestly think it's that particular concern that has been stopping her and that may stop her completely from enrolling.

Any advice?

Edit: Apparently if you are born in Japan you don't automatically get citizenship, you only get citizenship if both parent are also Japanese. If true, that is seriously messed up (and pretty racist).

Whilst I don't have personal experience with this, I went to uni with a few people who had be brought up in this kind of situation, they were just sent to international schools and they were fine, in fact they were more educated and well adjusted than many of the others I went to uni with!!

I know a guy on my old drum forum who emigrated and has kids in Japan with a native Japanese woman (can I make that sound any more like jungle fever? :/). I think it's feasible enough to get citizenship - Megadeth's old guitarist did it, didn't he?

I came to whine because we need nominations & votes for Picture of the Week on the Wiki front page. Have a look at the latest (and gasp)

There's a lot to like on the Fan Art page-- Some really good stuff went up just in the last couple of months. If you see something that stands out, show some love!

Thread to nominate & vote

I had the toughest talk of my life just now. My significant other of nearly a year and I ended our relationship. I wasn't around enough (living three hours north and working a job that needs weekends often).

I stayed up until four am last night thinking this over. Then I called her after work was done and she knew. She agreed. We cried.

She is wonderful. Things were easy with her. We love each other. But we had to be adults about it.

This will be tough for a while. I'm pulling my Fbook offline and gonna grieve a little. Probably I will read a bunch more books, work out a bunch, and be with friends and family more than usual.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Yeah, sorry to hear that Amp. It gets better eventually, but you already know that. Buying a game you can immerse yourself in completely is my advice, but then, advice are like farts.

One thing I have learnt in the past month since my grandmother passed away is that if you want to do something nice for somebody, so it. Don't procrastinate.

There is this Indian sweetdish called Rabri its made from milk and thick cream and its delicious. My grandmother loved it. I would often pass a shop that was famous for its Rabri. I kept on tellng myself that one day I would take some of it back for her. I never did. And now I remember that everytime I walk past there. Needless to say today I passed it again.

Damn. That's tough man. I agree with immersing yourself in the things you know bring you joy (reading, family, friends). Sorry it didn't work out with her.

x1000 agreed. My wife is super family oriented and I've never been...but since I've known her she's had me connecting with my family much more (and incorporating me into hers), especially grandparents who might not be here forever.

If it helps Andorion, you could always buy those sweets for your family or friends and share them together as a way to remember her.

I saw that all listed/linked out over at Gawker. All happened today within hours of each other. It certainly seems sketchy to have all happened at once.

Maybe Skynet?

Also add this weirdness to the list.
