I have a friend who keeps talking herself down from doing what she really wants to do.
She always wanted to do a bachelor of education and teach in Japan. Life got in the way initially but now she is in a position to go to uni and get her degree as well as get properly certified in Japanese.
Even more, her husband is willing to support her in this. He is even already looking into Japanese language night courses and is willing to move to Japan indefinitely (despite having only just received his Australian citizenship a month ago).
Some of it is due to the usual fears of failure and the difficulty of losing her income in order to study. I think I have helped her think through these but the other issue she has is that her and her husband plan to start a family in the relevantly near future and she is worried about raising a child in Japan who isn't of Japanese decent - whether they will be treated differently or disadvantage. I have no advice or experience on that front and I honestly think it's that particular concern that has been stopping her and that may stop her completely from enrolling.
Any advice?
Edit: Apparently if you are born in Japan you don't automatically get citizenship, you only get citizenship if both parent are also Japanese. If true, that is seriously messed up (and pretty racist).

And you're not complaining, you're criticizing. It's a side-effect of being better than everyone else, I get it sometimes too.
