I'm so fucking happy that I weathered HURRICANE MOM (which I prefer to call FLAMING-GASOLINE-TYPHOON-MOM) over my grades due to the glorious fact that I will be graduating regardless.

So happy that I started drinking. And am only disappointed by the fact that chat is down.

New computer is up and running! Yay for Luci! :D

Now all I have to do is download all the extra bits and pieces it requires to do internet stuffs. Just got flash player installed in all of 5 seonds, now just to get google talk setup so it's linked to my gmail account. It's using that "different password" thing unfortunately, so this may take a while :p

Dear God, 27" LED monitor is HUGE. ^_^

HUGE PR0N!!!! (but it really shows the problems with low resolution downloads, le sigh)

I fixed my freaking X-Box! It was a problem with the USB port, of all things... My thanks to YouTube users who showed me this problem... Now to make a start on the games I got for Christmas (yay! Assassins Creed: Revelations & Lord of the Rings: War in the North!)

Finally got out to see the new Holmes movie after many issues the previous weeks since its release.

It was pretty damn good.

After a series of crap results in 2011, my team won our first match of the season today, and we're off the bottom of the table. A bit of a nerve wracking finish but we held on for victory.

I agree, I thought it was really good. Which baffled me when I saw the mediocre ratings it's gotten, while Mission Impossible is getting almost unanimous acclaim. What is wrong with the world?!

Gav, of Roosterteeth and theslowmoguys fame apparently did most of the slow motion capture in that movie. Makes me want to go see it.

Toyed with purchasing the Alien Anthology on blu-ray because I wanted to see the movies again. Then I happened to see that Alien 3 was on last night, so I snagged it on DVR. On a hunch, I searched the upcoming TV schedule, and...all 4 Alien movies are being replayed over the next week, so I set up my DVR to snag those also! Got my wish, plus saved myself like $70. Woohoo!
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

No you didn't save yourself anything sir...but shitty TV cuts of the films.

For example, all 4 films are better in their director cut forms (Hell, ALIEN 3: Assembly Cut is 30 minutes longer and totally different), at least Ridley's directors cut of ALIEN is better and James Cameron's directors cut of ALIENS (including autogun sequence and the Colonists Last Stand at HAdley's Hope) is DAMn sure better.

Beyond that...aside from ALIEN RESURRECTION (whose transfer is poor), the first 3 films looks absolutely STUNNING on BluRay, especially the first two, for a film from 79 and one from 86 they both look like they were shot yesterday with HD camera's. they also SOUND gorgeous, as the quieter bits of Goldsmith's score on the first one really come to the fore on BluRay.


I got the Anthology on BluRay after Christmas this year and it's one of the BEST purchases I've made for the technology.

You should get it and ignore the shitty TV cuts.

Reminds me of one of my favourite reviews, for the Alien Quadrilogy DVD, which I will paraphrase horribly for you: "This contains in Alien and Aliens two of the best movies of the 20th century, in Alien 3 an intriguely flawed attempt by Fincher and in Alien Resurrection a beautifully colourful drink coaster."

Just came back from a weekend in Prague.


It was... awesome. Moreso than I could ever expect.

To start, I had all my tickets/travel + accommodation fixed beforehand. As planned, I left Szczecin on a train to Angermunde, then switched to a train to Berlin. Everything on time. In Berlin I had like 6 minutes to change trains again, but no problem there either - I even had time to run aimlessly between platforms before I stopped to actually take a look at an information board. So off I went to Prague - neat express train, nothing luxurious, but very comfy. I even granted myself weissbier in the restaurant couch, all with pretty landscapes glittering in the morning sunlight in windows on both sides.
I arrived in Prague. Now, what the hell to do? To save me from my confusion, I got the message that Anastasia is at some "hotel" I never heard of, where some girls she met on her travel invited her (she arrived approximately 5 hours before me). So, wander aimlessly a bit more, find a taxi... A kindly old man behind the wheel, I ask him about the hotel - nods, and off we go. I must say I was quite nervous in a taxi in a town I don't know, but repeating the route in my head now I think he didn't cheat me. So we picked her up... and immediately I thought I don't know how I could've been nervous about the meeting - of course, some anxiety was there, we didn't know each other that well, after all - but everything felt... right, more and more, in time.
Off we go to the hotel I booked. At first the taxi guy misunderstood and took us to Nove Mesto instead of Mala Strana, but we scrounged up a map, pointed fingers and he nodded and took us there... I have to admit, although the fare reached something around 600+ ckr, he admitted his mistake and only charged 400, turning his meter off along the way. So, the hotel I booked - U Schnellu..........
Turned out they were 'overbooked' and got us a room in another one. Needless to say, I was pissed, but off we went - one of the staff took us to the new hotel by taxi, being all apologetic (with good cause) - she even offered us a free evening at the U Schnellu restaurant if we wanted to come there (of course we did).
So, after about 30 more minutes navigating Mala Strana, we manage to locate the new place - U Zlate Podkovy... I must say I was slightly dismayed at first - the standard of the rooms looked more like a hostel, but hey. At least the room we got was HUGE and we got a separate bedroom for it too, AND we could smoke in it - all in all, I think the overbooking and moving was for the best, as I grew to love U Zlate Podkovy... the service there was very kind and warm, very family-like... The room could just as well double as a full-fledged flat, to be honest. It felt a bit like playing house - the bedroom even had a baby bed!
In any case, I'm still having trouble with my hardware, so I'll just post this now and continue later so I don't lose all the text. Stay tuned.

FINALLY finished my uni application essays last night and sent them off today. I should know by the end of the week whether they were adequate enough to gain entrance. Fingers crossed.

JLV - yes, it's a word. For pronounciation, start with the german Stettin, then go to Shchetsin.

In any case, writing this next bit the fourth time, I decided to just use google docs instead for a saved copy and post from work.

So, after spending a couple of hours in the hotel room, we decided it’s time to see that town. And I must say, Prague is very climatic (though I imagine it’s hell for drivers), with the narrow streets and old buildings and whatnot. We managed to get to Charles’ Bridge with still some sunlight, and the sight was, indeed, beautiful. Over the river we went into the Old Town, and as a highlight besides just walking down alleys and streets, we climbed the clock tower - damn, the walkway on top is NARROW AS FUCK. NRW. Needless to say, with my fear of heights, I was quite nervous up there. She, on the other hand, was totally carefree as she loves heights. I was slightly emasculated but I managed not to cry like a baby and took some photos with my back to the gaping abyss beyond the railing - and even managed a faint smile or two.
Sometime later it was time to head back to our side of the river. We took the offer of a free evening and spent it at the restaurant at U Schnellu - it was pretty decent, though to be honest it was nothing special, on the food side of things. Beer was, by czech tradition, excellent, though!

Back to our hotel, and for all you need to know let’s just skip to the next day. We started off very lazily staying at the hotel till about 12 before heading off towards the Prague Castle - which was just about next door, if you discount the elevation difference. Managed to catch the changing of the guard, but what impressed me the most was St. Vitos Church - that thing is extremely impressive. After fooling around the castle a bit and managing to forget the gorram Golden Alley, we went to the Old Town again, and sadly decided to eat at one of the restaurants on that side of the river.......
It was so fucking shitty. The service was rude and hard to catch/contact, and the food was pretty pale and devoid of any sort of feeling, like it was frozen. What’s very telling is the toilet - a piece of shit hole in the ground that was more basic than what you’d get in the cheapest hostel. It felt very bad parting with any sort of money for this kind of experience. Sadly, I don’t remember the name. What I can remember though is that it was near the Powder Tower (on the Old Town side of it) and had some green and gold and brown going on on the front.

In any case, we took a stroll towards the hotel again, spent a couple of hours there again, then decided we could do with another bite. I’ll not that it was about 11pm, and Prague doesn’t really live much past 10pm in this sector... We went uphill but for about half a mile didn’t find anything open, so came back down and came down a set of stone stairs that were right gorram in front of our hotel and our windows... just at their base was a pivnica - U Sedmi švábů - and it was a real revelation. Excellent food, great atmosphere, out of the way of most tourists and with kind and helpful service - and right at our doorstep, no less! Pity that this was already saturday evening.

Back to hotel again, and skip to the next day - it’s time to part. I’ll spare you the whiny details, but I’ll say this - the gut feeling I had back before New Year’s was right - she is a wonderful person, full of life, kind, optimistic, happy, giving, spontaneous - so many qualities I thought dead in this day and age. I am, myself, changed by the experience. It's quite certainly the best time in my life.
