WHMMHT: Booked my cottage for my slightly mad adventure holiday for my 30th next year.

This year has been horrible for me and mine so far, so I think it was the final shove to just book it and be that little bit braver than normal. Amongst more sedate stuff (I'm a big one for National Trust/English Heritage type stuff when I'm on holiday), I'm going to be doing a day of falconry on horseback with the Dartmoor Falcons, and going for a six or seven hour trek over Dartmoor on a Clydesdale horse one of the days too.

I've been working on it a few weeks, but it feels real now I've booked the cottage!

I have a new kestrel!

She isn't at home with me - decided I couldn't cope with that at the moment, I'm not in the right place to have a small creature dependent on me at the moment, and I'm still up and down home a lot with dad post operation, but she is mine to train as she gets older. I thought I'd never do this again after losing Euros last year, but on seeing her I had all the same heart-in-throat feelings again, and it's the first time I've felt that lurch for a baby bird this year (and we've had plenty in before her and her sibling).

She's called Guinevere - and for those familiar, it was Cornwell's Guinevere I very much had in mind. There's something of that haughty attitude about this little bird!
