Keeping in line with the storms from the groove thread:

Had what felt like a mini-typhoon rage down the street where I work today. Knocked out power in the entire building. I was rushing to my office from the 4th floor to close the windows when the whole building went dark.

I was glad and relieved for 2 reasons:

1) I didn't bother to take the elevator (as I was slightly tempted to)

2) I had a submission deadline today and I faxed it off about 15 min before we lost power.

Minor things, but either could've easily ruined my day.

United Bid (United States, Mexico and Canada) wins 2026 World Cup.

I love our Canadian members. Sure I razz you babies sometimes and you get mad at me, but lets work together and make the 2026 World Cup the best ever. And hey Canada, you automatically qualify, so no worries about winning any matches leading up to the event.

I love Mexico more though. Are there any Mexican member here at Malazan Empire? I don't think there is, sadly.

Well they've been handing the World Cup to vile dictatorships that care little for their people or human rights in general units you're super rich for a while now. (Russia, Qatar...) So that's why the US got in... Not sure why they're sharing with Canada and Mexico though... :p

Incorrect. It's a present for our 250th birthday. That, and all entities involved are going to make a boat load of cashola (even you Can't-A-Duh). Now good day sir! I say, good day! Posted Image

It is a dream, a distant dream, but the prospect of the United States staging the World Cup final on July 4, 2026 - the 250th anniversary of American independence - edged closer to a reality on Friday when Fifa announced that the host nation for 2026 would be announced in 2017.

Checked out Abebooks after someone (think it was Macros?) mentioned it in one of the reading threads. When I first read The Dresden Files, they were my ex's books so I don't have copies of my own and I want to read them again.

Storm Front, Fool Moon and Grave Peril turned up today, total cost of about £9 including postage.

Having just played with the rest of the site (I don't mind buying used, because books go everywhere with me and they tend to look a little "well loved" once I own them anyway as a result) - the rest of the series (excluding the short story compilations for now) is going to cost me a grand total of £46. Not bad at what should be at least £9 a book! :p

Not my reco, but sounds like something I need to check out.
I'm constantly recommending buying used on Amazon though

I usually do Amazon.... but they're not that much cheaper than buying them brand new on there (at least the later ones anyway), and in this case with Abebooks as long as you don't want them sending as priority postage they're nearly all free postage too.

Amazon owns abebooks.

They have separate listings. Abebooks rocks and it’s how you I buy out of print forging books to survival related stuff ( think how to build a steam engine from 1890, lots of lost knowledge for cheap )

Very likely going to be sent to finland for science collaboration. I am very keen to learn the knowledge and get better at my job but also 3 weeks in Europe for free! Okay technically only one country but Ill cash in all my leave at the end and see what I can do.

Clarify, are the sausages on the pop tarts? or just sharing aplate

I have been contacted by the US of A to set up my VISA interview. Its only in late august but at least its happening. Considering I entered the lottery in Oct 2016 and 'won' in May 2017 this obviously does not move very quickly. Hope they still have spots left! Anyway unless I somehow fail the threat test and medical I should be good.

Does anyone ever admit to engaging in forcing children to be soldiers or that they sold people as sex slaves?

Congrats! You should see the flop sweat dissipate when someone remembers the child soldier they enlisted was 15 or above, so they're A-okay!

Its a bizzare questionnaire. I think the sex trafficking or kidnapping questions even specify that it only mattered if the victim was a USA citizen or at least they imply it.

Aw, that's my aspirations of ever going to the USA gone then :)
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

This world cup has brought a pleasant surprise. Apparently my SO is extremely devoted to international football.

Today I was just planning on lying down with a book, she suddenly says "are you not going to watch the France match?" with this shocked expression on her face. Yesterday she was telling me to get my shit together because I was late for a match.

My SO has turned into a football drill sergeant.

Talking to a new chick!

Previous military and current cop!

We are going shooting for first... hang out. I kinda want to do the tactical shoot out , but will probably just switch to a really cool local cowboy bar.

We shall see ...

I spent the weekend in Edinburgh for my youngest brother's wedding. It was amazing plus there was a bunch of friends and family I haven't seen for ages, great to catch up!

Also on the way home I stopped by Bebbanburg and that was great as I love the Saxon Stories so much!

Cup game tonight.
There were 8 of us that showed up. Agains a full squad with many subs.

We held out for 31 minute (our regular keeper wasn't there either).

I'm dead tired, and I hate this team. But i'm still happy that I can put in over an hour of intense play like that before I run out of steam.

Recently joined a swimming class for exercise. I had no idea swimming could be so refreshing.

I try to swim twice a week. Been doing that for 3 years now.

I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I'm still able to play soccer 2-3 times a week consistently. I've been pushing all my friends to take up the same exercise.

Edit: making me very happy is Germany's last minute win. What a game to watch.

I was at a wedding in Spain yesterday. Spanish people are weird and hilarious and i got to bed around 6 this morning. I am so incredibly tired and it’s so hot. Thankfully my girlfriend’s parents have a pool 😁

I am trying to go 3-4 times a week, its a bit difficult with my schedule. I really like it so far. I know I am burning a lot of calories as I start feeling really hungry 15 minutes into a 40 minute session.
