Been watching more Ray Donovan today. About 8 episodes into the second season.

I think they're ruining the show. It's a shame but they're retreading every other show I've watched about dysfunctional families. Maybe it's because I recently watched the entire run of Sopranos and the Donovans mirrors the Sopranos far too much.

It bothers me that this family and their relationship has supposedly been working fine for 15-20 years. And then suddenly everything starts to fall apart. Suddenly the wife Abby doesn't trust Ray. Somehow she never knew what her husband was doing and she's "disgusted" by it. Their kids start to do stupid rich kid shit that their working class parents should have "beaten" out of them, etc.

It all feels so frustrating because none of the characters really speak to one another. There's reasons for this of course. Ray has no friends, trusts no one and is always doing shady shit he can't speak about. But that doesn't explain why he hasn't taught his kids how to handle themselves in a bad situation or just why he can't explain his reasons for his actions.

It's artificial drama that feels frustrating because it could all be fixed by saying the right word at the right time.

See, the thing with teasers and trailers is that it's very easy to make the series or movie look bloody awesome. And this looks bloody fucking awesome!

But I agree with the current discussion. While I enjoyed The Defenders, I also recognize that it had some flaws. Iron Fist was just bad. Luke Cage, while generally good had a really crappy ending.

This could be really, really amazingly good, or it could surprise us with how amazingly bad it could also be.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Started season 3 of Ray Donovan. They're continuing this storyline of Ray being all misserable and the family being in shambles. It's a shame. It's unoriginal and well trodden. I'd rather watch a show about the efficient fixer we saw in the first episodes of Season 1.

Still they just introduced Ian Mcshane as some rich guy employer and Katie Holmes as his spoiled daughter. This, I am guessing, is going to turn into a messy season.

There was this angry Navy Seal in episode 2. I hope Donovan hires him. Seems like a good fit.

I kind of like the Defenders so far, but now and then and especially whenever Danny Rand turns up on screen, the whole thing makes me wish they'd just make a season 2 of Jessica Jones instead.

Good news. They are shooting JESSICA JONES season 2 right now. B)

Anna Diop cast as Starfire in DC's forthcoming TEEN TITANS tv series. Seems like a solid choice to me. I've only seen her in THE MESSENGERS, but she was good in that.

And I like that they seem to be sticking with the whole idea of having Starfire be an adult mentor to the younger Teen Titans...as I found it worked exceedingly well in the two animated movies where she's held that position.

I finished Season 3 of Ray Donovan. The last two episodes were a hell of a season finale.

I didn't know where they were going with the priest redemption angle at the start of the season but boy did that shit pay off. Like, in retrospect, it's very ham fisted and on the nose, but the symbology is amazing.

Spoiler

On a side note the grand father, Mickey, seriously needs to die. Like fuck that human tumor.

Every season they show him achieving new levels of fuck-up'ery. I have to admire the way he's written and John Voigt's performance. You can't help but feel sympathy for Mickey. He always means well. Even when he's fucking somebody over, he does it somehow believing what he's doing is right. But the way he fucks up is incredible. Every season, sometimes every episode, he digs a deeper hole for himself. And somehow he manages to hurt his family every time while he goes free. How the hell he lives with himself is amazing.

At this point, Ray really should just put a bullet in him and bury him in a landfill. It would be best for everyone.

Watched three episodes of the new Twin Peaks tonight.

Boy this show isn't messing around. I'd have expected them to roll back the crazy and sort of get back to the weird but also "specific" subject of serial killers killing women in the forest. But nooooo, they went full Lynch and just ran with the cliffhanger ending of episode 2.

I am honestly really impressed with what they're doing here. They're both catering to the nostalgia by reintroducing all the old characters but also greatly expanding the mystical nonsense.

Everything is just so weird. I love it.

I've seen 6 so far I think and it hasn't gripped me as much as the first two seasons but I still love it and it's getting better with each episode

Rewatching Community because I'm bored and realised I still have all 6 series on an old laptop. Show went downhill after awhile but I loved the first 3 series, frogot how good it was.

Haha, strange coincidence! I'm doing the same thing (my Internet is down). Currently on season 4 and that's definitely where it started to slide. Still decent though (certainly the 4th season has grown on me since I first watched it - was quite disappointed the first time).

Yeah I actually quite liked the final series they did after they brought it back on Yahoo, although no Troy was just wrong, but series 4 was definitely the start of a slip. Every series has great episodes though, they just became less frequent.

My favourite is still the Pillowtown and Blanketfort episode :) Or the Paintball episodes, the first of which I am on now :p

Admittance time.

I could never get into COMMUNITY. I tried more than once to get into it...and pretty much loathed it. Don't find it remotely funny.

Oh snap! I just found out that Top of the Lake: China Girl begins airing this Sunday. This is some of the best news about a series I've read in a long time. The orginal - Top of the Lake - was one of the best series this decade (and maybe ever). Damn, I'm pumped to start watching this!

Fall 2017 tv premiere season is gearing up... AV Club did their watch/binge/skip review of the new stuff....

http://www.avclub.co...-pre-1798640151

Of the rah rah military shows I toyed with SEAL because i like Boreanaz and mostly enjoyed what i saw of thematically similar SIX, but the advance buzz is so utterly meh i’m wavering.

On the sf front... ORVILLE... i can’t, i just can’t.

Will give DISCOVERY a chance because Trek and i need to be able to talk to my people while the hype is going on... hey, it might be good, it might be a dumpsterfire, either way there will be talk.

GIFTED and RUNAWAYS... my fading loyalty to Marvel tv will prompt me to at least DVR, then inevitably make a watch/delete decision based on the reviews and comments before i ever take a look. Ditto the not mentioned CLOAK AND DAGGER whenever it appears.

Crime... MINDHUNTER is tempting... its got the crew and the cast and the pedigree (i still miss you Hannibal) and its on Netflix so my commitment is limited until it’s awesome but i’ll give it the chance to be.

Misc... GODLESS... i did not know about this Western show until i read the article, but now i may have to watch it. And hey, Netflix.

Yeah... I feel the same... I'm not sure I like you any more QT! :p

Lucifer is available on Norwegian netflix these days. That show is an abomination. Or at least the first couple of episodes are and there's no way I will watch any more of them.

Haha, wow, that escalated quickly.

I'd actually be interested to hear whether there was anything in particular that turned you off it though QT? Pacing, theme, characters?
I ask because there's a few things I can see in Community that were rough around the edges - it certainly took a friend sitting me down and watching like... 1-6 with me before I really got into it the first time.

It's alright, I love all you guys anyways!

Yeah, I don't know. I think Joel McHale is irritating AF, and the comedy just felt forced to me.

I'll give you that QT, I've only ever seen Joel McHale in like one episode of another show and didn't think too much of him, for me the character of Jeff Winger only works within the confines of Community, anywhere else that character would be irritating for sure, so if the show don't appeal then I understand that point of view.

Annie, Abed and Troy are awesome though - though that first might have more to do with Alison Brie for me... :p

The schoolwide madness episodes are soooooo good though, Paintball, Blanketforts, floor is lava etc. And the darkest timeline, love it :D
