I might try and catch the re-air. I believe the regular slot for the show is Thursday nights. But yeah, Seth MacFarlane's one-trick pony comedy style as turned to mundane pablum, imo. Sometimes I'll try to catch the beginning of Family Guy for the rip on pop culture references (which usually happens before the first commercial break) but the rest of Family Guy is just not that funny to me anymore.

Oh, and guys, his movie, A Million Ways to Die in the West, is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It is baaaaaaaaaaaaad.

I gave the first episode of The Orville a shot. I will give it one more episode and if they can't do something to get me interested then I'm done. I'm really just waiting to see how much of a train wreck the Star Trek Discovery is going to be. My hopes are not high.

Other than a nostalgic fondness for RED DWARF that i'm pretty sure would not survive a rewatch, i just don't enjoy scifi comedy on TV. Everything about a weekly sitcom format tho, doesn't work for me. Not clever enough to be good sf, or good comedy, because the network tv format just doesn't lend itself to that.
A movie like GALAXY QUEST only requires two hours of my time, max, and delivers the entirety in that unbroken stretch, has the time to be clever and the budget to look good doing it, even back when it was made. Ish.
A book like the WILLFUL CHILD or SCREW THE GALAXY is a rare thing for me to enjoy, and even then i can pick-up and put down as i like but usually enjoy for longer than 22 minutes, and its a book, the fx budget is unlimited, so to speak.

But hey, if everyone starts raving about its brilliance (which doesn't seem to be happening, most reviewers i trust panned it), i may give ORVILLE a look.

Let's do a betting pool on how many episodes before Seth MacFarlane forces a reason for his character to sing into the script.

Watched Westworld. While I'm not quite sure I understood all of it I definitely enjoyed it. Fantastic acting all around and I love the concept! Will definitely get round to S2 whenever it is released.

I liked THE ORVILLE pilot. And I've long gone off Macfarlanes humour...but I actually feel it's less of a parody and more of a Star Trek show that heartens back to the old shows...and happens to have some humour.

But yeah, the music, the brightness, the science-y stories. Really fun. I'm in for the next few episodes.

Started watching this show called intelligence.

Really good most of the way done season 1. Its a police/crime shows centering around a guy who runs a smuggling business, the head of the crime unit who is trying to setup an intelligence network while dealing with one of her subordinates who is eyeing a promotion.

Really well written as the meat of the plot feels more like an espionage story, everyone is trying to win the information war and get one up on each other.

Synopsis below courtesy of wiki
The show centres on Jimmy Reardon (Tracey), one of Vancouver's top organized crime bosses, and Mary Spalding (Scott), the director of the Vancouver Organized Crime Unit (OCU), who has offered Reardon immunity from prosecution in exchange for his role as a police informant. The show also stars Matt Frewer as Ted Altman, the scheming assistant director of the OCU who seeks to replace Spalding, and John Cassini as Ronnie Delmonico, Reardon's business partner and confidant.

American Gods is very stylized and at several points seems on the verge of going overboard, but it actually never really does. It gets awesome and stays awesome. If you don't mind a Shadow that's more verbose and maybe a bit more openly naive than the book version, stick with it.

I've had a serious cold over the week-end, so I binged the last three seasons of Justified. You know, I quite like that show.

Both are excellent. Legion is better, so if you have to choose between the two, I would go with it over American Gods.

Legion gets really good over the series. The deep dive it does into mental illness and how that is represented in the show is not for the casual viewer however. In other words, if you don't give the show the attention it requires, it can frustrate you and quickly put you on a "drop it" footing.

What's that, some sorta nerd show?

Forgot to mention, the Insecure finale was super great. Season 2 was so good overall.

Also tonight is the return of Better Things and I'm so excited. AV Club did a great, charming interview with the three kids: https://www.avclub.c...of-b-1806528484

Just finished watching through Community again, realised I'm still waiting for my Community movie dammit!!!!

Gotta love that hilarious board game commercial at the end, Dan Harmon's voiceover disclaimer is both funny and emotional (he legit chokes up at the end), plus it might be the most meta thing that has ever happened in a TV show.

*Lines between perception, desire, and reality may become blurred, redundant, or interchangeable.

Characters may hook up with no regard for your emotional investment.

Some episodes too conceptual to be funny, some too funny to be immersive, some so immersive they're still not funny* :D

The dig he has at the Nielsen system is perfect as well.

Really enjoyed american vandal.

Amusing and ridiculous and still draws you in to the "mystery".

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.

Got around to watching the debut episode of The Orville. It's really horrible. It's supposed to be funny right? I don't think I laughed once. I stopped watching after 30 min. in and watched something else and then came back to it. Man, MacFarlane's acting is pretty atrocious. And the hook of the show will not carry it - Star Trek like adventures framed by the absurd and comedic situation in which a divorced husband and wife are the captain and first officer, dumb. And I hate, hate, hate the look of the ship. I guess the way it looks is supposed to be funny? But yeah, the only episode I will watch.

You know I have never seen a single minute of The Sopranos, I've intended to watch it in the past, considering how much everyone raves about it, just never got round to it. It would seriously have to go some to be better than The Wire, I've always had this feeling that I'll be disappointed whenever I do get around to watching it, not sure why.

I binge watched the Sopranos some months ago.

If you want to compare the full length of the two series I'd argue it's only the first season, maybe second of the Wire that is truly great. It sort of gets lost in side characters and less interesting plots as the series goes on.

Sopranos on the other hand gets better with time as the characters evolve. However, I think the Sopranos are a bit too much family drama at time and not enough mobsters doing mobster things. I think you have to watch the full first season to judge what you think of Sopranos but in my opinion it's a great show.

I gave SOPRANOS four eps of S1, but it just didn't grab me. I understand that it got better and more complex, but at root it was a crime story / family drama, just not my thing on either level.
That said, from those eps and the handful more i've seen in passing i can acknowledge the performances by most of the cast were pretty impressive.

THE WIRE... three times i have started this show and three times just not gotten into it. Again, it's the crime story thing. Not a genre i've ever really enjoyed enough to commit to. I can get into a short, tight whodunit like THE FALL or THE KILLING (mostly.... elements of both bored me), but the kind of big cast, wide ranging plots, pulled from the uglier parts of the big cities i grew up/live in just isn't something i enjoy for entertainment. And i know, I KNOW, believe me so many MANY people whose opinions i trust have sworn this is the single greatest tv work in the last century, but even so... needs more dragons.
