So what do you think of the black-and-white flashforwards that dot each episode?

I thought it was just an annoying gimmick at first, but it grew on me after a while. It's a novel way round the "so which one of these new characters is going to die during the intro" bit.

Love NCIS and it's on tonight, a new episode, in 1 hour! Great characters, interesting plots, lots of action!

I totally love NCIS. It's one of my all time favorites. It beats CSI anytime.

Yeah, I like them aswell. It's funny watching the first still and trying to figure out where the cut will occur.

I read on wiki that the sound was the directors idea. He wanted a distinct sound to announce the beginning and end of "the chapter". It's basically just the sound of the author punching a microphone :o

Best crime series was The Wire. No contest.
Of course, that was less a crime series toward the end and more the story of a city.

Really? I've never even given it a shot; isn't it just a CSI set in the Navy? Is there really that much crime in the Navy? I'm clueless about this show.

It has Mark Harmon. Middle-aged white people can't resist Mark Harmon

I was sold on the show after that first episode. There's a crime on Air Force One, and the squad use it as a chance to joke around and re-enact scenes from absolute film classic "Air Force One".

And then you get to the end of the episode, and you realise the terrorists had watched that film too, and it was their plan all along to copy the story from that film exactly. Great idea, especially when the team work out that's what was happening.

Jethro Gibbs(Mark hamon) is a Deus Ex Machina :o

The guy is like a charming Jack Bauer... just less inclined to torture you.

I loved the first episode aswell. A part of the charm is that strange, natural arrogance that NCIS handles everything with. Agent Todd doesn't know how to handle that level of disrespect :)

I find NCIS to be merely CSI with extra flag waving and right wing hysteria (which, given its produced by the makers of Airwolf, comes as no sort of surprise), which is okay if you like that sort of thing...
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Just watched the two parter "Judgement Day". I don't know if it was the season finale but if so, it was one hell of a end.

NCIS (along with Criminal Minds, they're tied in my mind) is my ABSOLUTE favorite crime series.

And yes, Judgement Day was the season finale of the TV season befor ethe current one.

My favorite season finale was Twillight, and my favorite season premier was Kill Ari (a two-episode sequel of Twillight).

I'm currently up to Series 5, Episode 2, watching the whole thing right through. Taken about a month so far...

Before I'd only seen bits and pieces when I caught them on late-night channel hopping. This way is better!

I quite enjoy NCIS but have only been able to find up to season 3 on dvd here in the library here.

As far as being the best crime show though, there is no way this matches THE WIRE in terms of quality. That being said, it is a lot easier to sit down and just zone out and watch an episode of NCIS. Different programmes suit different moods.

And for those who bring up CSI:Miami to mock it, I heard a great way to actually enjoy it. It's called the CSI:Miami drinking game. Now there are a multitude of ways it can be played, but the only two rules i can remember were to take a shot (or drink ,whatever) when
1. Horatio puts on or takes off his sunglasses
2. When Horatio repeats a sentence back to someone (usually a suspect)

Oh, i just remembered rule no.3. When Horatio says "Follow the evidence".

I think that about covers it. On a typical episode from the first few seasons that should work well. I haven't seen it in years so maybe they've ironed out some of his repeated mannerisms (but i doubt it!). I do remember seeing one episode years ago that would have put you in an alcohol induced coma if you followed those rules.

NCIS is good fun to watch because of its cast.

CSI was okay the first seasons but has lost some since.

CSI miami sucks balls.

CSI NY just sucks.

I really try and avoid the CSI franchise where possible, but I've enjoyed the strangeness of the few New York episodes I've watched - there was one where they had to mess around on Second Life, and another where someone managed to dig his way out of a buried coffin...that one was cool - there were some secret passages in a haunted house, a zombie flash mob and so on. I'm sure they're not all weird and interesting, but the small sample size actually means I've enjoyed CSI:NY somewhat.

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

4. When the coroner talks to a dead person.

5. When Horatio stands beside a grave. With his hands on his hips. At sunset.

NCIS is a guilty pleasure of mine, if only because of Dinnozzo and Abby.

But best crime show ever.....The Shield says, "Hi." And then slams your face down onto a stove top.
