The Wire is brilliant. the shield too, for that matter though I haven't watched that many episodes of it.
I've yet to see an NCIS episode I couldn't predict the ending of after about five ten minutes through.
NCIS - best god damn crime series ever?

I know I'm resurecting a dead thread, but ive recently had lots of time at home after I broke my leg and after running out of things to watch downloaded season 7 to kill some time.
I just watched an episode with an investigation involving a ship named Damocles and a marine named Kinkade, any Jim Butcher fans find that interesting? Ive got this niggling feeling that ive witnessed many more peculiar references in here (not just the movie ones) and cant help but think that the writers are being cheeky. Going to keep my eye out for more obvious ones.

The names Kincaid and Damocles are pretty common in popular culture I think.
Personally I am confused about the series. According to the statistics, the series has never been more popular than it is right now, but I've slowly been losing interest. What originally got me about the series is missing.
The first seasons had an over arching story of Ari the terrorist and generally had great season finales. The newer seasons have absolutely shitty finales and they don't build up to them properly. Likewise the cast is getting stale. Or should I say old? Look at the first season and look at them now. Yeah, sure, naturally they would mature over the course of 8 years but a lot of the energy and chemistry is either missing or being ruined by bad dialogue and script handling. It really annoys me because it is a good series.
I think it is the Writers strike that ruined it. Before the strike they set the series up for a new cast coming in, and the old cast being moved out on assignments. The plot was that there was some mole and Leon and Gibbs could have a season long feud. Instead they came back from the hiatus, ruined the plan, and the rest of the season sucked.

I've kind of lost interest as the show has moved away form Navy/Marine crimes or kinda Navy/Marine crimes to more of a Navy version of the CIA or FBI. The show seems to have had less of a connection to the Navy with every passing season. I haven't had time to watch the last two seasons so I'm kind of out of it, but that is my impression from seeing all the others. NCIS: LA is kind of interesting, it has very tenuous connections to the Navy, but it is supposed to.

Clearly Castle is the best goddamn crime series ever, but I agree with Apt, NCIS has gotten very stale.

I have to agree in that NCIS has gotten stale.
I must say that a show I really enjoy at the moment is WHITE COLLAR. Is generally pretty light, but can have a sinister undercurrent at times. But one of the mian reasons i enjoy it is that the main protagonists are supposed to be highly skilled at what they do, and act accordingly. I hate when shows tout a character as being smart/skilled and yet they act like complete planks for most of the show. Also, it doesn't hurt that the female characters are typically smoking hot.
