As sad as it is, I'm having a harder time slogging through the end of this series than I did with the Sword of Truth.

I think 10 is the slowest of the series. 11 is a lot better . . . just skip the Elyane chapters when you get to them. ;)

I'm at the point where I'm going to skip any chapter not about Rand, Matt, Or PErrin. Problem is, they're all running around with more women who exactly fit the "all females are exzactly same, and a pain in the ass" idea.

I've been there, RLY, you just gotta push through. They really gave RJ too much freedom as he got deeper into the series, though they should've done the opposite and reined his ass in.

When I think about WoT, I focus on the positives and not the negatives. Cut a few book's worth of chapters about Elayne and such, and the series would be brilliant and not just good.

Yup. That's the problem with wildly successful authors. They get enough clout and "go to hell" money that they can afford to get carried away (cough Jordan & Martin cough).

Quote

He went so overboard trying to refute the whole "women in fantasy are only for rescuing and looking hot" idea that he made them by far the most annoying, bitchy, arms crossed beneath their breasts dipshits in the history of literature!

And yet the women in WoT need a lot of rescuing by the men ;)

See, I'm to the point where I don't even think it can be considered good. The first few books were not bad, but ever since then I've been forcing myself to read on. He's got some cool ideas, but they're buried in all the crap. If I had read this series when I was young and just getting into fantasy, I might have liked it. Not now.

To be honest, the only thing keeping me going is that I know the last book is going to be written by someone else. I've invested enough time into the series that I want to see how it wraps up, but am running out of patience for Jordan's drivel.

Book 11 has some plot resolutions, plus lots of Mat chapters.

RLY,

And now you see why people who have read the whole series say stuff like 'The first 6 were sure good' and whatnot.

I've only read the Eye of the World, I thought it was reasonable at best. I'm not sure I have the desire to read the series with all the other books out there. Is it essential reading?

I can understand that. I'll be able to give WoT a final grade after book 12, which I'm worried is going to be awful.

@Dancer---If you have no other pressing things to read, give it a shot. It sucks up a lot of time at the very least :D

I have pretty much read this series as it was published. 15 Years ago, after the first 4 in the series had been published I would have said yes you have to read these books. Great ideas, good plot, plenty of interesting things happening. Even through book six I would have kept that opinion.

I reread all of them through Lord of Chaos. Everything since then has been read once and put on the shelf. Will I go out and buy AMOL, absolutely. I want to see this through, I want to know how it ends.

I have only read Sanderson's free online book Warbreaker (check his website). I liked it. I have Mistborn at home on the to-read pile. I think that he will do a good job. I am encouraged by the way he feels about the books. He really seems to have a feel for the characters and the story.

But 2009 is a long way away, but luckily there's plenty of good stuff to read in between.

According to his website Sanderson is already 12% of the way through the 1st draft.

I'm sure i'm not the only one that feels this way, but is anyone else seriously annoyed by the female cast of the series? Practically every bloody woman is an utter bitch, in all honesty. Manipulating this and that, doing this shit and that, fucking up this, tugging this and that and bitching about this and that.

The only females of any worth in the entire bloody series is Moiraine and Cadsuane. Every other one is just plain annoying. And jesus are men portrayed as the most pussy-whipped asses ever.

Personally, I love them all, first 6 better then the rest, but all of them are favorites of mine.

The problem I think Jordan ran into is a couple of things.

1. He went with way to many points of view. Could have stuck with the three main characters and maybe 2-3 more. Instead, it seems, every character in the books has four or more chapters with their thoughts, action, sighs etc.

2. He continued to add new plot twists in every book, which was ok, but he failed to resolve some of the old twists that should have been finished.

If he would have stuck with the main story line and maybe 3-5 side stories, then the series could have run 7-8 books with a satisfactory conclusion.

You are a masochist.

~Luxury Yacht, sniffs, smoothes skirt, tugs braid, sighs "Men", gives an icy stare, worries about his dress, and stamps his foot.

Action? What action?

BTW I found Cadsuane and Moiraine both quite annoying.

The only thing about Cadsuane that's annoying is that she doesn't do anything. She's an interesting character, with a lot of potential, but she just sits around moping.
