What, you guys don't picture the characters with handlebar mustaches, wearing pirate shirts? That guy on the left is obviously Kevin Costner as Robin Hood...an integral part of WoT.

Darryl K. Sweet sucks. Always has. From Thomas Covenant, to Xanth, to Runelords, to WoT... You just get used to it and deal with it.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Those are the UK covers from Orbit. It's quite amusing that Orbit just gave up on the US covers as being utterly unbearable and went with the symbols as being far more tasteful and stylish.
Whats even funnier is that Orbit in the UK still actually used the same cover art - their books have this very thin strip on the back with a shaving from the US covers... I wonder if the artist got royalties for that?

Some of the Sweet covers I rather like, such as the one for EotW. I don't really like the English covers with the wheel and snake. The Dutch hardcovers on the other hand are very pretty. They're a pimped wheel and snake.
Anyways, it's what's between the covers that counts. Unfortunately it's counting for less and less as the series progres... ehm, stagnates.

wow this is a real gold mine for a 'new reader thread'. Sorry but shouldn't some of this have been taken to a WoT discussion thread instead of a thread made by someone begining the series for the first time?
apt if you are still reading, dont mind all the moans people say. WoT has its short comings but imo it's still a series everyone should read. We all can look back and complain but it doesn't change the fact that while your reading it you WILL enjoy it and to some extent not care about the duller parts. Once it hits the so called 'rock bottom' point you'll be so well into the story it'll carry you through none the less, and besides book 11 is a real redemption. Regardless of a few annoying characters and their views its still a damn good story that all should read.
Big issue for the later books is RJ's resistance from completely cutting characters out, there are a few examples but not enough. I gets kinda like trying to run the gotm, dhg and mt story lines next to each other in one book instead of seperating them into books of their own, the result being some stories that should have been resolved quickly last up to 4 books. Still they all fit in time-line wise so it does kinda make sence

11 is certainly a great improvement on the 4 or 5 books preceding it, that's true.

I prefer the older offerings myself
he is so going to knock her out.
Cheesy oldschool fantasy covers FTW!
On my nostalgic search for the above cover I hit upon other gems that I had not witnessed before ( I read alot of them on coverless e-book)

i can't do this cover justice the way this guy can

Yea I have all those covers in paperback in my basement. I just wished I bought the hardcovers so I could take the jacket off of them, like I do with the Modesitt books. Holy crap some of those covers are so bad, I have to think they are done by the same guy.

I finally got back on the horse with this series. Finished book 9, working on 10, and it isn't as bad as the last 4 or 5 books. Hopefully he keeps it up in 11, and I have big hopes for what Jordan will be ablle to accomplish in the last book!

I was all about book 5 for a bit there and then got sidetracked with Hyperion and book two in ASoIaF.
And I am forcing myself to read "the intelligent investor" so that I gets some smarts.

its ment to be a really poor interpritation of the final moment of the book
it is however purely the WORST depiction of any scene fromn any book ever.

SPOILER FOR BOOK TEN, ONLY LOOK WHEN YOU FINALLY LOSE ALL HOPE AND SKIP TO BOOK 11:
Spoiler
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

RJ was whipped man, it reflects in the series unfortunately. He went so overboard trying to refute the whole "women in fantasy are only for rescuing and looking hot" idea that he made them by far the most annoying, bitchy, arms crossed beneath their breasts dipshits in the history of literature!
