I bought Sixteen ways to defend a walled city by KJ Parker.

I didn't think I'd buy another KJ Parker book after I nearly died of boredom during the first Engineer Trilogy book.

But the description caught my interest.

After signing up for BookBub emails, the amount of on-sale/dirt cheap ebooks I've nabbed in the last few weeks is....a lot. Not one of these was above $3 to buy....amazing the deals out there...

SLAVE, WARRIOR, QUEEN by Morgan Rice (not sure if this is a multi-author pen name because this woman has written like 30 books in 5 years)
ROGUE, PRISONER, PRINCESS by Morgan Rice

TALES OF THE DYING EARTH by Jack Vance

THE IRON KING by Maurice Druon

CITY OF BRASS S.A. Chakraborty

STONEHENGE: A NEW UNDERSTANDING by Mike Parker Pearson (this guy has been heading the excavations around the site for the last decade or so)

DRAGONLANDS trilogy Omnibus by Megg Jensen

FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS trilogy Omnibus by John Drake

Checking amazon kindle sales every day...has basically gotten me all of the following books in the last few weeks for between $1 and $3 each...I never would have expected that just checking sales each day would result in such insane savings...(WELL worth your time each day!)

A TIME OF DREAD by John Gwynn

HYPERION by Dan Simmons (his weird politics aside, I've heard this is a solid series)

THE SCAR by China Miéville (never got beyond PSS with his work, so this should be cool)

NOBLE HOUSE by James Clavell

PRIEST OF BONES by Peter McLean

INFINITY BORN by Douglas E. Richards

NEW YORK 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson

CHASING THE PHOENIX by Michael Swanwick

THE BONE SEASON by Samantha Shannon (I want to read her new series, THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE, so these 3 books from her first series seem like a good place to check out her writing)
THE MIME ORDER
THE PALE DREAMER

MAGNUS CHASE by Rick Riordan

THE WATCHMAKER OF FILIGREE STREET by Natasha Pulley

REVENGER by Alastair Reynolds (this one is up for $3 today for anyone wanting some cheap Reynolds)

It's been twenty years since I read Hyperion but the series remains my favorite book series. Just an amazing achievement in depth and scope.

I should do a reread.

Part of me wants to do the HYPERION reread and then finally get to the sequel series ENDYMION... part of me just wants to leave the glowing memories alone.

Got the earbooks for Mira Grant's ROLLING IN THE DEEP and INTO THE DROWNING DEEP.
The mermaid story concept sounds cool and nicely original, it's been optioned for a movie, and she's a writer I keep meaning to try and never got around to til now.
Will likely start these once i'm done with HOD KING.

Grabbed Samantha Shannon's THE PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE on ebook sale for $2. Hopefully it's good. The cover is stunning and it sounds very cool!

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I love double columns. It's so old timey. It reminds me of the course material we would get handed out in school.

I really liked the first two, but the third didn't do anything for me. YMMV, of course.

I do highly recommend her two Indexing books, about a government task force that fights the incursion of fairy-tale narratives into the real world. It's really clever, and takes what could be a cliche premise and just runs away with it.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"
