... why did no one tell me that with a Prime membership the audible trial is 3 months and 3 free books!?

We were trying to keep them all for ourselves.

Natalie Dormer as in the actress??

Isn't that a bit below her pay grade or is a love of the books type thing?

Buying Expanse 7. Still need to read 6.

I'd be curious to know how book 7 fares. Hated Vital Abyss (5.1?), found Babylon's Ashes (book 6) a chore to read and thought I'd stop with the series at that point. Thoroughly enjoyed some of the earlier books though so I'm willing to go back to this particular well.

I enjoyed it more than the previous 2 because it finally got back to alien technology stuff. Still not one of my favorites.

I believe she was asked personally by JK to do it? I could be wrong. I would also wager that Dormer is likely to end up in a Fantastic Beasts sequel at some point as well.

But aside from all else, she's just got an incredible voice for reading. It's incredibly soothing. Example:

I liked it. It amped up the scope of the story considerably.

Meant to do a buying spree for new authors/series with a shiny birthday gift card from the bosses.

But real life expenses got in the way (my Levi's style was on sale, which happens rarely).

So instead of a whole spree, I just picked up the second "Traitor Son" book by Miles Cameron, "Fell Sword". Along with Instrumentalities of the Night, this is so far the best series I've been reading this year.

Not today, but Friday. After the dentist finished pulling my teeth out I had a £50 book voucher I needed to get used up so went into the city and just called at Easons
picked up the new Uthred book, a glorious DK history of the world by maps . And two other books, I can't remember now what they were, I felt compelled to make it up to the vouchers full value (ended up a few pounds over)

ETA This is the DK book

The Player of Games - Banks
Excession - Banks
Consider Phlebas - Banks
Too Like the Lightning - Ada Palmer
A Crown for Cold Silver - Alex Marshall

Some of the family could only be in town this past weekend instead of proper Christmas, so I got some gifts early.

THE BURNING STONE by Jack Whyte (Prequel to the Dream of Eagles series, starring Varrus's grandfather who leaves him the house in Colchester and the meteorite/Skystone).

THE MANY DEATHS OF THE BLACK COMPANY by Glen Cook (This completes my omnibus collection of this series)

FALL OF GONDOLIN by Tolkien. The neat thing (and probably rare/collectible thing) about the copy I got was that the title is not coloured in...it's simply embossed, so you see the white J.R.R. Tolkien (and Edited by Christopher) portion...but then it's just the art cover image, unless you tilt it in the light to see the title embossed in, same deal on the spine (no colour, but embossing)...I assumed initially this was done to avoid spoiling the art with the big title....which I have to admit would be a GREAT thing as that piece of art is GORGEOUS...but after investigating it, this is very much a printer error. The covers on this print run went out for embossing, but the colour/foil was not applied. I've seen it in the store and the cover is coloured...so I think I just got the gift of SUPER collectible error cover Tolkien? As a bibliophile, this is amazing to me. I'm not remotely upset about it.

Oh, sure thing. Here you go. You can't see the embossing (minus the foil) here, but you'd have to tilt it into the light to see it.

Note: This is not my copy, it's another image I found online of the same print run.

Right? I was not mad AT ALL to have a weird one this time. It really just unobscures the Alan Lee art!

I ordered some of Katherine Kurtz' Deryni books: the second Kelson trilogy and both Camber trilogies. I have the first Kelson trilogy in a decent papaback edition, but the second one as rather yellow and earmarked used books and both Camber trilogies as omnibuses in a French translation, because they had been out of print. But when I checked Kurtz on Amazon.de yesterday, it turned out they did a new edition of most of her books, so I'll finally get decent trade paperbacks of the whole lot, and in English. ;)
