Bookstores conspire to thwart my buying plans.

Only thing I was able to find was the second Fourlands book. Also picked up "Saint's Blood" , the third Greatcoats book.

I'll have to go online to look for more Cook. Might grab the new Laundry book if it's out in mmmpb as well.

Edit: the Felix Castor books showed up in store, nut they're over 20 bucks each... so instead I bought the first on Kindle.

I just pre-ordered Cook's Port of Shadows. It releases 9/11 (ominous?).

The local Chapters didn't have any of the books I was looking for. Seems I'll need to venture to TO's bookstores again.

Since I was waiting to meet someone, I ended up picking up a copy of "The Alchemists of Loom"

Took a detour from work today to pick up the one copy of "Working God's Mischief" still available in a bookstore in the GTA.

Also, ordered the second Bel Dame Apocrypha book, "Infidel" online. Changed my e-mail settings, so that now I actually receive the online order info.

My mom is back from her visit back home.

As a gift she brought a gigantic hardback of the Metro trilogy.

I'll be reading that once I'm done with Silmarillion.

Sil to this day remains one of my unfinished and strangest reading experiences ever. Believe I got to halfway or close before I gave it up.

Idk if I even still have it or if it was divorce purged. I want to say I do still have it though if I don’t I will likely never rebuy it.

BK, if I might help? It's a daunting book, so I listened to a podcast by The Tolkien Professor (you can find his podcast on any podcast database), which was him and a few students from his classes on Tolkien going through the Silmarillion as a book one chapter at a time, discussing and breaking everything down. This is how I read it the first time, and it was beyond helpful. It meant I would read one chapter, listen for an hour to the podcast, another chapter, another hour...repeat at will. They are thorough, and they help you understand even the tiniest minutiae of the volume. And I mean, this is technically the Elvish Bible/origin stories...so it's going to be dense, and full of allegory and stuff that needs to be parsed. I can't imagine having read it without that help on my first go, I'd never have made it through even the Ainulindale portion...but yeah, if you ever feel like you want to give it another shot AND you still have it kicking around. The Tolkien Professor's Silmarillion Read podcast episodes are amazing.

JPK kindly gave me the heads up that the latest Carlos Ruiz Zafon book is out, THE LABYRINTH OF THE SPIRITS. So I nabbed that for my kindle (only $14 for a new release is pretty solid pricing for release day).

Went wondering about the City bookstores today, collecting next entries in a few series I have on the go:

McKinley's "City of Ice"
Aaronovitch's next Peter Grant book, "whispers underground"
Jacka's second Alex Verus book, "cursed"

And, unexpectedly, the Kate Daniels tie-in novel, "Gunmetal magic"

Also got a few new names to research for the future.

it's girthy, and I've heard good things about Wurts. I remember enjoying the collab she did with Feist years ago. But yes it seems very girthy indeed!

I just received Centipede Press' Masters of Science Fiction: Richard Wilson in the post. It's a collection of many of Wilson's short stories and novellas from across his career. Like all Centipede Press collections, this is beautifully designed, painstakingly laid out, and solidly constructed.

I've never read anything by Wilson before, but I'm very excited to start!

Re: wurts: I'm yet to read book 4 (and it's been sitting on my shelf for years). Those books require work to appreciate, and I haven't been in the right head space for them for a while.

Got the new J.K. Rowling HISTORY OF MAGIC audiobook read by the lusciously voiced Natalie Dormer.

Also, why did no one tell me that with a Prime membership the audible trial is 3 months and 3 free books!?
