I did almost pub order (Fionovar, then a few years later Arbonne, Sarantine, Tirana, Lions, Last Light in quick-ish succession, and as they came out the 2 Chinese ones), and Tigana just failed to impress compared to Sarantine.

I also though Lions was good, not great.

I actually LOVED Tigana. It was the only GGK's work that I was interested in. The rest never really interested me, except Lions. To be fair though, it is very difficult for me to get into things and I tend to be hard to please.

Kay ... hmm. I think I went Sarantine (which I thought was great) -> Lions (not so much) -> Arbonne (meh) -> Under Heaven (redeeming) -> Fionavar (dropped book 2 or 3 [can't remember] when the whole Arthurian s*** gets shoehorned in suddenly). That was a few years ago and I haven't gone back.

Got to go into town tomorrow to go to pharmacy so will likely stop by BAM afterward. Thinking about looking at WH40K books finally. We ll see. That seems like a Star Wars EU like commitment.

Speaking of that I still remain NU free

Regarding 40K, I really do recommend starting with Gaunts ghosts, think a more unrully black company in space.

Yep. 100% Agree with Mac here. Gaunt is DEFINITELY the place to start. Abnett is literally WH40k's finest author.

And the first three-book omnibus called THE FOUNDING (or the single volumes, of which FIRST & ONLY is the first book) were just recently re-released with new covers. Should be super easy to get your hands on.

Recommend the Omnibus though.

My local B&N has had the first Gemmell Troy book for years, and it's the only Gemmell they have had.

Sequel to KINGS OF THE WYLD, BLOODY ROSE is in the (excuse the pun) wild a few weeks early in Canada. I nabbed it!

Whatever you do, don't start the WH40 with The Horus Heresy like I foolishly did. On The Path of Heaven now (numbered book 36 now out of 50+ and counting) and it's starting to become a serious money and time sink that I can't get out of. I'd love to skip to Gaunt's Ghosts or Eisenhorn (have copies of both) but have a strong aversion to spoilers (such as they might be).

Hunting the Eagles by Ben Kane. I've only read one of his books before (the first Hannibal one) and didn't like it. And Hunting the Eagles is book 2 in a trilogy. But it was 99p so what the hell.

I've read the first and second books in that series and I loved them.

I will say that if you are reading the second book without having read the first, the gravitas of what is going on might be lessened overall (like you won't get as emotional as I did) because you didn't walk the events with the cast in book 1, and you won't really know the motivations of the villain...but you should still be fine reading it. I DO recommend (if you like it) reading the first one at some point.

Good to know, thanks! I'll read the first one for sure. It's obviously a marketing tactic, putting the second book in the Kindle Daily Deal but not the first.

I mean, Eames is from Ontario (Kingston to be exact) though, so it makes at least a tad more sense than normal.
