yeah, with the big, heavy sword of doom he easily dodges the fastest creature on the battlefield, managing not to crash into any of the enemies and allies that crowds the battlefield, and even as he does he has full controll when he lands, and before the rider manages to react cuts of all four legs of the horse, in one, elegant sweep!
All be awed!
And of course, he also skilfully sweeps the rider's head off with his sword, moving faster than the man dressed in light leather, raises his sword in triumph, before a blast of power explodes from it, killing all enemies on the battlefield! mwuahahaha!!!
Even a crossbow could easily kill our mighty hero.
It's more a matter of skills, and who is the most cunning.
Imagine then this scenario: OUr crossbowman, Paul, sees this idiot with a big, heavy sword in the battlefield. Due to the bright shimmering of the enchanted weapon he easily spots the man as "our hero".
Paul relaxes as he reloads his crossbow, and, from his safe position in the fifth rank waits as the ones before him bends to reload, and with certain skills and prestige sends a bolt through the dumb-wit's throat.
He is then charged down by mister Oliver, one of the last remnants of the light cavalry, who in turn charges for one or another reason into a wall of pikes, that is in it's own turn broken as it is flanked by the heavy cavalry.
The light cavalry then starts harrassing the heavy cavalry, breaking them, before a hail of fire from a distant group of longbowmen takes them out.
But- behold! A man of great skills with a sword of great magically enchantment arises! He and a legion of swordsmen attacks the group of archers, who must use their secondary weapons, long knives, but are killed and the survivors rout the battlefield in pure terror, before...
My point: Everything has a weakness. And trying to refuse so by making imba weapons of magical enchantment, doom and destiny, added a little drop of fate, is really lame. If you do that, you're just one of the crowd. Nearly all fantasy writers does that, good or bad.
And after a while you get really tired of it!
