There's a difference between a soulshift and a possesion.

What Qb isn't really soulshifting. But it's not really possession either. But McFlury's got a point. I am sure you can see the similarities between Apsalar and Quick as far as memories goes and what it does to them.

The possession of Apsalar, the damping effect Tool has on warren magic, the soulshift into a puppet, Tayschrenn's use of demons, ...

They all feel like GOTMisms to me, in that such events/ phenomenon were not duplicated in spite of the many opportunities, and given the powerful characters in subsequent books. (Tay didn't use a demon in NoK, TB, or MOI, right? Similarly, Dryjhna's 'possession' of Felisin was lame compared to Cot's whole hog possession of Aps, not to mention the oodles of magic happening in the presence of several T'lan Imass)

I dislikes such 'one-use' ruses too...

I agree with Sky Walker...sounds like a GoTMism...an easy way to get her story line going.

I wonder if Apsalar knows Cot's weaknesses due to the possession?

Nonsense it's not GotM'isms.

You have Sorry, T'amber and in part Felisin. I think Cots effect on Apsalar is the obvious explanation to why the gods doesn't just go around possessing everyone.

Hairlocks soulshift was more than possible. In DG Duikers soul is transferred into a glassbottle... which isn't a glassbottle. The Andiis souls on the Silanda are chained to their heads. Silverfox is probably the greatest soulshift of the series.

The use of Demons is also more than common, Bauchelin and KB use them, The Edur use them, Pearl uses one on the Ragstopper, kalam has 12 Azalan(?) demons in shadowgems, etc.

I think there's a big difference between soulshifting to a doll and to a real living body. Well, there should be at least.

I meant -

a) Possession didn't work the same way for Cot/ Aps and Dryjhna/ Fel

 Soul shift is possible... not arguing that. Just that the single instance thereof stuck out a bit. Also, the other cases you mention didn't really happen while the person in question was still alive.

c) The use of demons is common, yes. The use of demons by Tayschrenn is not seen outside GoTM

Well you don't see him doing much fighting either. Apparently when a demon he has enslaved dies it's quite traumatizing as seen with his Khorlava demon(sp) in GotM.

I think apsalars effect on cotillion should also not be discounted.

Also I'd say Apsalar may be a unique case as she was also possessed by Riga the washerwoman at the same time...

You think that Riga not only protected the mind/soul of Apsalar but also caused the imprint of the gods powers? It's an interesting theory.

One could then elaborate on such an idea and theorize that QB might not loose his many powers if the souls fled his body.

Actually, no joke, there IS a ref to 'Kulp the Elder' in a TB chapter opener iirc, but i can't find it at the moment.

As for Apsalar, the entire point is that she has moved beyond what she was when Cotillion possessed her.

- Abyss, the obscurer.

You sure it wasn't Toc the Elder?

And on QB: remember what Hedge asked him: how long do those souls intend on hiding away in there?

Oooh...

Hmm, I'm not sure that would be a badass move.

Aye...Apsalar can now beat you, slice and dice you AND make a funky soul candle for you/off you!! Gives a whole new meaning to "light a few candles for atmosphere".

Lol... I can imagine it.

CG: Prepare to die, Adaephon Delat. "launches death-spell"

QB: Not so fast! "turns around and launches Set-Alahd Crool's soul out his ass"

"spell impacts on Crool and kills him, but QB makes a getaway"

CG: DAMNIT!

@Zendog

Jeez, why don't you just make her out of spare parts.

Well, id say if he was doing it permanantly, it would drive him mad. I mean, a dozen voices in your head all the time... Cant be good for you lol.

Does he really hear voices? I'm not so sure. We don't know what kind of agreement Quick made with those souls, but maybe there was some sort of deal on how much they can meddle? They give him pretty much all their knowledge and memories, but they can't really make him do stuff?

But in MoI, someone observes that there must be some chaos in QB's mind, and he replies "The clamour has subsided somewhat", or something similar, meaning that even if they cant force him to do things, they must still be active, perhaps in the sense of the Jade Giant's souls with Heboric.
