@Amphibian - I wasn't focusing on the actual swords, I know Draconus made the sword, but Rake is known for living in darkness/K Galain, while this demon used light and is from Galayn, just seem more related than I'd previously noticed.
As for the cover picture, the one person I can think of who we've seen lately and has some mystery around him is Redmask. He has a mask and uses an axe, has connections with lots of dogs and even the enmity of the wolves from what his tribe did to the Grey Swords.

Hmmm
EDIT: the US cover is actually well-done for once.... but why the wolves? and who's the dude witht he axe?
let us speculate!

If I had to choose someone (which I don't, because I don't think the artist was actually thinking of someone specific) I would say it is Kalam's cousin or whatever he is. Can't remember his name right now. But his skin seemed darkish and he has an axe. Sure, I have no clue why he has shackles around his wrists but let us hope something just really cool happens!

As for the Redmask thing: NO! He is dead. I see no mystery, or any reason for him to be on Genabackis. (if that is where the scene takes place)

I don't believe there is any such thing as "NO! He is dead", in this series.

haha. Yeah you do have a point. Maybe I just really, really want to listen to my logic and hope he is dead. I've been proven wrong about death by SE many times in the past though. ;)

Whoever it is, he has broken out of chains, (all those muscles were useful) and picked up a weapon, which does not mean the axe is his at all. He seems to have white hair, very short, when you blow up the picture. Who has white hair, is very muscular, and the dogs/hounds are not attacking?

It was posted but was deleted. But Jen said we've always had the artists (lockwood?) permission so long as we mentioned its origin... Hell, let me find it for you cat.

Yeah I don't know why Erikson would believe them to be Hounds when they look so wolf like and are so numerous. More likely they are wolves in the white ones pack.

They look like cats to me. Look at their tails.

I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Yeah I had the same feeling, mostly because they seem so lean. But look at their snouts. They're too long even for a cheetah or something.

They could be D'ivers I guess, but on the other hand, does any one remember the description of Togg and Fancy?

Could one of them be whitefured? I remember Togg, at least, being grey/black? But if Fancy was white it could be her, along with a pack of fellow wolves.

I don't think any of the black are Ay since they would be a lot bigger.

Just received word from Lockwood.

He and SE discussed the scene for the cover over drinks that the World Fantasty Con. He doesn't know who the axe-wielding man is. But when SE saw the art, he realized that there should only be 5 hounds in the background. I guess that's our hint...;)

Otherwise, everything is open to speculation!;)

This quote is from the cover-art thread...

So we can assume the black houndses are the Deragoth that remain.
