I'm pretty sure I mentioned the meaning of the word 'wu' somewhere... I tried to search for it, but the forums search function doesn't allow that short of a word.

Wu is the name of one of the authors at the start of chapters

The thing about Wu was SE and ICE temporarily nicknamed the world after a doctor in a Steely Dan? song, and one of their songs is called Dr. Wu. I googled this after Hetan, I think, mentioned it and some people started using the name, including me. Only for a short while as it happens, mostly because as words that aren't 'the Malazan world' go, Wu is remarkably easy to write, but it's pretty much died from dislike and disuse. It's still in the series in Wu's Closet and the chapter opener author anyway.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I still think calling the world Burn would be fitting... but nobody ever agrees.

Well, plenty of confusion surrounds Wu in the first place... Also, tough shit

Genius...
I never really refer to the malazan "world" in general so never need to use a name to identify it... but i think World or malazan world works just fine...

Can you believe I came up with that on the spot!??!!?!?
The name doesn't bother me (not having an official one) but Wu is somewhat stupid.
And of course I agree Zanth.
frick noobs

I'm going to call it Burn from now on. You can tell from context, it's not like Burn is a crazy power-hungry ascendant like Karsa. The World is Burn.
We can't call the world, malazan world etc. Too long and it needs a better word, like Burn.

or we should call the world something to confuse people on purpose... Like Karsa... or middle earth... or koolaid... or even better Zanth... I think that would work..
but I guess we could settle it with two threads... one for name suggestions and then a poll to pick the name that the forum will use... it would do until SE or ICE create a name for us to use.

I will continue to call Burn 'Burn'. We could have a vote on it but we could go for logic.

Helllo all
my first post to the forum. Hope I am not repeating something already discussed. I sort of jump pass a few pages when Onrack went out to left field.
I just began my second read of Bonehunters and came across a quote in the Prologue which might answer some of the question marks in Skywalkers evoluntionary tree.
It is during the release of Dejim Nebrahl the T'rolbarahl, Page 10
"Barghast, Trell, Tartheno,Toblakai" said the seventh priest his voice a rumble. These are the surviving threads of Imass blood, no matter their claims of purity. Such claims are inventions, yet inventions have purpose. They assest distinction, they redirect the path walked before and the path to come. They shape the emblems upon the standards in every war and so give justification to slaughter. Their purpose therefore is to assest convenient lies. By the Warren of Tellann, I invoke the ritual of release."
So it seems Trell and Tartheno and Toblakai are under the Imass branch.

Thanks Ashork... the problem is Thelomen Tartheno Toblakai or TTT have always been mentioned separately from the Imass in many places. Whether that makes them an offshoot of the Imass or a separate (but similar, but heftier) species is up for debate.

There's a comma between Tarthano, and Toblakai, in my mind that implies they are talking about the current surviving tribes. Not the original purebloods.

I see the confusion
I also took the quote as meaning that some of the "real history" of the races has been altered (generations mislead) to fit some sort of purpose besides war.
I also thought the seventh priest, being the one who uses the Warren of Tellann, must either be "living" Tlan Imass and therefore has a better knowledge of the history. Do any other race uses the warren Tellann??
boy does that make any sense???
