Well, if one wants to argue that these sons and daughters gets something from their parents, it means that Gnol simply got what the Errant had to offer, which, all in all, wasn't much to begin with. I'd be shocked if Gnol actually got something useful out of being the son of the Errant.

if you believe Feather Witch's ritual in MT, yes he was, quite at the beginning in fact, messing with Fire and Dolmen at the very start of things.

also, remember as he's only reinstitutionalized himself into real godhood in RG, while in the meantime he was just something... less. still prodding and nudging, but hell, Oponn ain't powerhouses either, right?

RG stipulates that his power of nudging was limited to the city of Letheras. Whereas Oponn has the rest of the world covered with their pulls and pushes... Imho, significant difference.....

By the time he would have spawned Gnol (incidently, am i the only one who thinks of hyena-faced humanoid any time i read that...? i am aren't i... gods, i used to be such a geek...) the Errant was likely in his low-ebb power phase, just getting by by latching on to a series of lovers and forgotten everywhere but Leth.

Consider that of the Letherii pantheon as we saw it, the Errant was the ONLY 'human' god we ever saw, the rest being figurative depictions in the Tiles. There is no 'elder god' type along the lines of Krul, Mael, etc, or younger gods like Shadowthrone and Cotillion, or even non-humans like Fener.

It's interesting that gods like Mael and Fener actually took refuge in Leth where not only did they have no following (initially, since that changed for Mael in his Bugg/Waiting Man aspect to the Indebted) but their rivals and fellow gods also had no presence.

All of which is to say, the Errant, push/pull/nudge/nudge/wink/wink aside, wasn't all that powerful, and thus no reason for his offspring to be.

I think the Errant wasn't the original, world making Elder God Feather Witch described. Whoever that is, maybe just a personification of the power of chance and fate even, is obviously long gone, because our Master of The Holds wasn't always a God. And it seems that he simply ascended into the position of Errant, like Oponn replaced him.

no, in RG it's confirmed many times that the Errant we know is the original Master of the Holds, the very same that the female Jaghut (the name escapes me, sadly) in TBH mentions to Paran at the shores of Raraku Sea. through several passages of the Errant's own memory of a time when he was worshipped, and the Jaghut's description of the Master of the Holds cult of bloody sacrifice, we can say that for sure.
as for the creation myth, it was a ritual, and in no way can, IMO, be taken as a detailed description of the World's beginning.

Just a related thought... he was 'A' Master of the Holds, and the only one Ganath knew of, but not necessarily the only one who preceded Paran.

There are still other elements we don't know. By example, someone or some thing 'made' the Deck, and it wasn't the Errant, or Paran.

I don't understand you peoples hatred towards the Errant though. Well I understand the hatred but I don't understand why you think he's inferior to Paran.

I think we'll find in the upcoming books that the Errants little trick with blood and tiles hit Paran like a blow.

Come on now. Its not like its complicated....HE KILLED TRULL!! AHHH

Now, I know, hes ages old, so maybe he went through all the rigmarole of Paran, but as far as I can tell, hes been sitting in the Lethari kingdom as a royal consort and thats that. The Ascendant fabric is being ripped apart by a little guy called the Crippled God, and hes just sittin back.

I know I know, maybe hes ancient and wise, and sees the Crippled God as a natural force that happens, or agrees with his cause enough to sit out or something, but bleh Im not buying it.

At least Paran is trying. At least thats the feeling I get, at least Paran is researching, and trying to find solutions to keep the Houses from falling apart.


So you know, what it comes down to....We have Errant the consort, who stabbed Trull in the back and (okay its been a long while since I read RG) he trapped someon (Mael?) in a wall? v. Paran who soldiered with the Bridgeburners and has been through several confrontations.

Id back Paran.

So what if he got Trull stabbed in the back. So what if he made sure Rhulad became emperor and Brys died, so what if he hampered Mael, etc.

He's the Errant. He's an asshole who does what he wants because it's "his city".

I like him in the way I like Kallor and Clip and Bauchelain and KB, he's a giant asshole with the skill to back it up and he's entertaining.

amen to that! (except the entertaining part... the most entertaining part with the Errant in RG to me probably was when he drowned Feather Witch... and that was only entertaining because he actually was killing the bitch (finally) )
