I agree with you. There's a lot of discussion about how the big MMA organizations are really borrowing from pro wrestling's bag of tricks and tactics to grow their sports. On one hand, it sells well, but I really like the competitive athletics and skill part of it more than the personal grudges, hype/trash talk talk or ratings appeal. What happens if you overuse the rematches and established stars, while failing to develop younger talent? After a certain point, the organization and the sport as a whole loses its relevance, as they're going round in circles.
I realize boxing and wrestling have relied on these tactics for years, but honestly, they've been eclipsed by the NFL, MLB and NBA (potentially the NHL as well) as prime destinations for physically gifted athletes and audience eyeballs and audience wallets. Once the MMA organizations get to a certain point, I'd really like to see White step down or become much more professional in running his organization, while other organizations do the same and in particular, the states getting their commissions to respectable levels of professionalism and competence.
NY needs to legalize MMA bouts. This is ridiculous. An MSG show would be enormous, as everyone from Jersey, Philly, Connecticut, Rhode Island and some Massachusetts people would come in with the natives for that show.
