It hit right on the sweet spot next to the chin and Brock didn't see it coming. The combination of the two generally means Loopytown, because heavyweights hit so hard that a shot you don't see coming will do massive amounts of damage, as you're not physically set to take the shot (stiffened neck, clenched teeth, body taut etc.).

Not just heavyweights, I was nearly knocked out by a shot to the side of the jaw that i didn't see coming in sparring once, and that was from a guy weighing about 155 pounds.

didn't quite drop me, but my legs did a pretty good impression of Elvis.
meh. Link was dead :(

mmhh i know the sweet spot is there, its just hard for me to see the blow in the gif, very well possibly could have happened,

I for sure see him attempt the single leg though (now that might be cuz the punch hurt him and many wrestlers do that as a fall back)

I also see him trying to fight back until Cain hits him with the knee followed by a some punches (one big one was actually to the back of the head) but you cant fault cain for that he was just letting loose and brock turned his head...

Another sweet spot is directly behind the ears, which is technically illegal as its most refs consider any thing behind the ears as back of the head but its really common to get hit there in exchanges when bodies fist and heads are moving... you cant really fault a fighter for landing a shot there while standing

I have seen dozens of fighters go down from a single shot to behind the ears, it usually doesnt produce the "KO" that a jaw punch can but it puts them on there ass and leads to trouble,

You would be surprised how often you will see this in MMA,

WOW...... WEC is going to merge with the UFC!!!

This is fucking awsome news. Finally these guys will get the exposure and money they deserve. and now there should be at least one title fight every PPV.

Good shit

I doubt we get a title fight every PPV but the lower weight fighters can for sure spruce up some cards. Joe Silva has a whole new toy to add to his match making job.

I have never seen a bad WEC card, and there have been some questionable UFC ones, mixing the 2 should bring up the quality of UFC a lot.

It should also help in making some new stars.

UFC really needs to work on marketing their fighters. I dont know if its for fear of losing them to other promotions but they are horrible about promoting new fighters.
heck even current fighters dont get some of the air time they deserve.

The really need to work on time management, start filling air time during the PPVs and free shows (ie Ultimate fighter, and WEC/Spike shows)
during a current PPV they should really work on promoting the next one more, ie fighter stats, where they stand in the division ect, same with whatever fights are currently going on,

they have a large portion of free time during the events that they could be using to engage casual viewers and really get them to know and care about these fighters, which in turn would bring up PPV sells.

Brock Lesnar is marketable and everyone knows who he is, he sells fights, well, exposing more fighters and giving them air time and letting viewers know more about them will produce similar (though not as extreme) results.

/rant....

The problem with the UFC publicly saying where precisely they consider fighters to be is that when injuries or other hold-ups come into play, they've painted themselves in a corner with the casual fans. A bit of wiggle room is needed, so the current titles of "contender", "upper-tier", "rising" and so on fit that purpose well.

Plus it gives Goldberg something to talk about.

I fucking hate Goldberg. The best announcing team I ever heard: Schiavello, Miller and the occasional contributions of Mezger.

decent fights for the 2nd to last WEC card.

Faber is back in the win column at 135, (jeeze, i have 80lbs on him and he would still kick my ass)

I cannot wait to see Petis vs Henderson... I hope Petis gets the W, and hopefully Frankie Edgard gets his Win against Maynard, because I really want to see
Edgard VS Petis for the belt...

also I dislike Maynard a bunch in case I never mentioned it

It is a good week of free fights, bring on UFC 122,

WEC = Always Entertaining.

Fabiano losing hurt to watch. The guy was never truly engaged and wasn't being aggressive enough to survive, much less win. He needs to get his head on straight and then come back. Benavidez shouldn't have won that fight.

Quick sub by Faber. Mizugaki looked like he was a step slow in trying scrape Faber off and Faber seized advantage of that. The standup was even too. Both guys delivering shots, but lacking true KO power.

Vazquez is an idiot for using rubber guard.

Thought Semerzier did enough to get the first round, but I can understand how Swanson got the split.

DJ Johnson's guillotine was awwwwwwwwwwwesome. It's probably my instructor's favorite sub to pull on me. It feels like death because it attacks the trachea in such an incredibly painful manner. Very hard to defend once both hands are cinched and the top guy can chain together almost endless variations of guillotines, brabos and anacondas.

Watched Osicpzak-Ludwig and K-Sos/Reljic on the Spike broadcast. This card is not good so far.

Fedor is right about people relying too much on leg-based takedowns. I'm not saying his sambo/Grego/judo style throws are the cure, but they certainly tire the fighter less than straining in a bent-over posture.

Great PPV this past Saturday. I really enjoyed the fights.

Penn has not look that intense in a while and damn did he put a punctuation on that finish. I was happy for him. A win over Matt Hughes still means something.

Rampage impressed me and Machida was deff not aggressive enough and it cost him the fight.

George Sotoricantspellhisnamus looked good but i was rooting for Joe Lauzon.

oh and Go Rampage for being the first person to beat Machida by decision. He connected often, though I suspect it being a 3 round fight worked to his advantage, Machida would have had that ass in later rounds...

Solid event overall, though the co and main events really didn't go the way I had hoped.

That kimura or americana or whatever the hell it was from Phil davis was pretty gnarly...

The Falcao - Harris fight was just fucked up all around.

and if you haven't seen it, find the Barboza - Lullo prelim. Great fight. Barboza was looking a bit like Aldo. Can't wait to see him fight again.

I'd call this the second best card of the year - UFC 117 with Silva/Sonnen edged it out.

Penn's KO was so fun to watch that the entire bar was screaming - guys, girls, Penn fans, Hughes fans, the staff, just everyone. He was shouting "Fucking dick! You fucking moron! You fucking dick!" during the walkout and I'm not sure if he was reacting to a fan touching him, yelling at himself or yelling at Matt Hughes. Whatever the reason, he was angry and very mentally present in a way I haven't seen fully in a long, long time (maybe the Sherk fight?).

Fitch is a tough, tough match-up for him though. That's gotta be producing the next title contender after Shields. I'd have loved to see Penn-Alves, rather than Fitch, speaking from a Penn homer's point of view, but it's going to be a great fight. Plus it keeps Penn riding that crest of momentum.

We saw ghosts of it in the first round of Edgar/Penn II, the first round of Penn/Sanchez and it was so good to see it be fully realized again.

Phil Davis is so freakin' strong. He could probably bolt wings on those lats and fly. He also has some very, very good instincts on the ground and is going to be a nasty, -nasty opponent for anyone on the ground inside a year.

Lauzon did the right thing in trying to push the pace to such a frenetic level that could cause Snuffleupagus to gas in the second and third. Unfortunately, he got stunned by a few strikes and then outmuscled on the ground. That fight deserved FOTN for sure though - so many scrambles, positional changes, good sprawl, good striking by both men.

Barboza nearly lost the fight a couple times to a gogoplota, but he leg kicked the hell out of Lullo like Aldo/Faber, but worse. Such a fun fight to watch.

Foster/Brown was fun as hell too.

Karo is just sad. Hallman is decent, but he shouldn't be KO'ing people at this point in his career.

Munoz has bad stand-up, but his ground strikes are so hellaciously strong that Simpson nearly went down to that a couple times. It's like once Munoz gets his knees on the mat, boom, he turns into a Fedor-caliber ground and pounder. It's like.... Antares except his knees need to be in contact with Gaea.

Falcao was unlucky in that the commission ended the first round about seven seconds too early (legit timing error) and he couldn't finish the RNC in time. He hits so hard that it put the fear in Gerald Harris. After the first round, Harris said to his corners "Holy crap, that guy is strong." (Lipreading rocks)

The more I think about it, the more Rampage-Machida should have been a draw. I gave Rampage the first and Machida cleanly won the third. The second should have been a draw. It's interesting that Machida spent so long in the half-guard working for the kimura on Rampage, who I think is too strong for something like that to be muscled out. His mount was so nice that I wanted to see him stay there longer and not work the armbar.

But tell me you didn't go "IT'S ARONA AGAIN!" when Rampage lifted Machida up...

Hammerlock. Similar to what Aoki did to Hirota last New Year's Eve, but slightly different leverages were applied. Boetch's shoulder would have ripped out before his arm broke.

Yeah I never saw a good angle of it until the other day on MMA connected. Not as bad ass as Aokis' for he didn't jump up and start fingering everybody, lol.

And damn i'm pissed that Aldo is off 125. I was REALLY looking forward to him defending his new UFC belt.

I think a rephrase of that first sentence is in order - after I stop giggling uncontrollably. Aoki could probably kancho everybody in that building though.

Aldo needed that exposure. It sucks that this injury had to happen now, but he'll make the most of his opportunity.

And good on Grispi for taking a fight in the meantime. We know that Rashad Evans won't take a fight until Shogun's ready because two of the last three guys he's fought have wobbled him in the third and he could lose that title shot if he takes another top-flight match. Grispi's putting his shot on the line and hopefully he'll come out of it victorious again.

I went with GSP by decision. Koscheck doesn't go down easy and I think Thiago had more power in that uppercut than GSP has in his G'n'P.

UFC 126 is shaping up to be the best card ever. Anderson-Belfort, Franklin-Griffin, Jones-Bader, Miguel Torrest-Banuelos, Stout-Kelly are confirmed. It's rumored that Kingsbury-Romero, Ellenberger-Rocha and Kid Yamamoto-DJ Johnson will also be on that card.

Stylistically, that's an amazing, amazing, amazing card. Might even look into going to that one.

Yeah, I think a sub or decision is more likely, but i'm trying to think positive. as long as he wins i'll be happy. If that fraggle haired moron manages to win, i'm gonna be fucking pissed.

126 is going to be bad ass.

Just killing time tonight and freaking cannot wait for UFC 124 to start up tonight. I agree with you bonesaw- I think GSP will be able to finish Kos tonight. I'm really curious to see how Kos might use his TDs tonight to change up what happened in the first fight but I think GSP will be able to put Kos down enough early to set up his stand-up while avoiding Josh's big right hand. GSP blends the TDs with his stand-up much better than Kos is able to and I think GSP will also use the clinch to wear on Kos and tire him out for the later rounds and pound him out.

Struve and McCorkle should be a war also and I saw Charles Oliveira fight live here in Austin at Fight Night 22 and dude has scary potential but Miller is the type of fighter who might be able to use his wrestling and out-work him while avoiding the sub attempts. If no one finishes that fight I can see another fight where both camps could be royally pissed if it goes to decision and see how(badly) the judges award the decision.

WAR GSP!
