Sharkfights had a decent card last night.

Paul Dailey picked up dec win, he didnt look great, he still needs to work on his wrestling/sprawl

Keith Jardine lost a split dec to trevor prangley, Jardine should have turned the heat on more, he looked to have Trevor finished in the 3rd round but couldn't seal the deal,

Thats a tough loss for Jardine, he is now on a 5 fight losing streak and lost 7 of his last 9 fights with the 2 wins coming by split decision. I really like him as a fighter and its a shame he is going through this rough patch, i hope he can dig himself out of it sometime.

Houston Alexander had a miracle come back against Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Sokoudjou had Alexander badly hurt in the the first round, but Alexander managed to survive and came back in the 2nd round and put Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou out... if they give out fight bonuses, this fight deserves fight of the night.

Yeah the sharkfights card was not bad for what it was. Masvidal is a decent win for Daley, but the fight was not too impresive from what I remember. I feel bad for Jardine.... He needs to fight a couple cans and give his confidence a little boost. That was a wicked comeback from Houston and I was glad to see it, I always liked that guy for some reason. Wasn't a fan of seeing him full on grab Sokos hair at the end.

UFN 22 was pretty good the other night. Jim millers looking good with another nice win, Oliveira is someone to look out for. Never seen him fight and Efrain is pretty solid so I was surprised to see him get handled like that. And the main event was pretty crazy. Palhares was pretty dumb to stop in the middle of the damn fight and look to the ref. It was good of him to man up and appologise to Nate and his camp the next day though.

Some good fights on the first episode of TUF 12 too. Hope GSPs team takes the competition and hope GSP finishes Koschek when they fight. I saw a preview for the next episode on UFC website, and looks like GSP is going to get a bit sneaky for the team picks.

They're almost in your neck of the woods, right? Maybe your brother can get on the undercard of a future event if he strings together a few wins.

Sokoudjou is such a frustrating fighter to watch. He has probably put no work into training since his debut and any match past 5:00 has him completely gassed and looking to quit. That's what happened against Alexander. He should be out of the sport and Alexander did a good bit towards putting him there. The one positive note for Soccer Jew is that he actually used a judo trip to seize side mount - first time I've seen that from him in a looooong while.

I actually called the Prangley win. Jardine's too slow of a starter and keeps focusing on the wrong things in training (at least to my amateur eyes).

The UFN that just happened was pretty decent. Oliveira is going to go far in a few years. Hopefully, he can be eased along and pick up some more wrestling defense as he goes through his development. Marquardt has enormous KO power when lunging with that right hand. It's too bad Palhares made such a bad mistake.

My favorite thought from elsewhere on Palhares: "He looks like a litter of pitbulls stapled together." Dude is swole.

I skipped the Bellator fights because I was training at the time. I did watch the Ultimate Fighter - and as usual, several guys are fighting above their ideal weight and I don't see any potential stars. I think the UFC is purposely dealing Spike the lesser prospects they have in order to satisfy a contract, while letting the real blue chippers homebrew under the public eye. Oliveira would run through everyone on this show.

They should do a Nova Uniao vs. the rest of the world lightweight season of Ultimate Fighter. That'd be nuts.

So Sonnen tests positive for PEDs....... Interesting.

What pisses me off most is that the rematch will probably be put on hold now for a bit.

I wish the comissions either took up random drug testing or just legalized PEDs.

Wait a couple days for the full story to come out regarding the Sonnen drug test matter.

Sort of a tangent: I appear on an MMA podcast now. The first episode was.... not good. This week's episode is muuuuuuuch better. I'm sort of the "jiu-jitsu move analyst" as well as someone who thinks of questions and interacts a little with the guests. If you forgive one or two dead spots in the middle of the fights discussion, the McClintock interview is the one in which I get into things.

Link to The Verbal Submission is here.

awesome Amph, i have to check that out some more when i get some time, probably tomorrow

Yeah it would be nice to see my brother get on sharkfights, sometimes it doesnt even take an great record, a few buddies of ours made it on the undercard of some of there events,

So im confident with the another few fights (wins with the proper prep) and the proper marketing it can happen. We are going through some rough patches in our family life and i hope it doesnt carry over into the sports side.

Yeah Jardine really needs to examine his career. Its sad.

As far as the Chael thing goes, it sucks to have his performance tarnished like it will be but fuck the rematch anyway, there are plenty of other 185er who need a crack... he tapped out and lost the fight plainly, just because he delivered an ass whooping before he tapped doesnt mean he gets another shot at the title... this wasnt even some close dec like with BJ and Shogun, he tapped out... before he gets a title shot again he needs either one huge win against a top 3-5 opponent (like a finish) or to string 2-3 good wins again and then see what happens. but right now we have Marquadt, Leben, Okami, and even bisping if he can get some wins waiting in line for a crack depending on how the Ws turn out the next few months... not to mention the always dangerous W. Siva....

also Chael Sonnen has acted like a real d-bag, and even said something along the lines that Lance Armstrong caused his own cancer from using drugs (like PEDS) so it is ironic to me if it really is true that he was doing something on purpose....

On a side note, he was real sick a week before the fight and maybe he took something that could give him a false positive...

like Amp said everything will come out the next few days...

wow i feel like i have so much more to say... but i have wrote to much already...

jeeze you guys have been slacking lately in Malazan/mma.... i have refused to join any other forums so i dont get to have any decent MMA discussions ... i hardly get to train anymore either now that i started my night school again....

so I am done for now

but I will say Mir vs Cro Cop, very exciting fight and card... I hope Crocop gets to fight, he has to pass an extensive eye exam though.. i really hope to see Mir fight though, he is one of my favorites...

Awesome episode of TUF last night. With GSP coaching i'm actually stoaked for every episode.

I saw a clip last week of GSPs master plan, and I can't beleive it actually worked. I was laughing my ass off.

I apologize. I'm training for the No-gi Pan Ams in Manhattan next weekend. Pretty much all I do is school, part-time work, train, sleep, school, train, sleep, watch a few fights here and there and sleep again. Oh, and do that random MMA podcast too.

I'm on target with my weight, with only one day of cutting misery, and my game is decent. I'm feeling good about this.

I've missed the most recent episode of TUF (first time I've ever tried to watch a season of TUF) and the last couple Bellators because of training though.

damn im jealous Amph, I havent been able to train at all the last month, between a full class schedule (at nights) and a part time job the turned full time cuz someone quite i dont have the time any more, 6pm-9pm i have school, 11pm-7am i started night shift at the local 7-11 for some extra income on top of my GI bill.

My brother still goes 5-6 times a week, he just doesnt have me as a sparring partner anymore,

He does have a fight on October 9th in Dallas, XKO 8 for anyone interested, Ill be in his corner running the timer/stool

http://thegym.org/Co...eSports/?p=1542

he is going against a tough wrestler, and going through a divorce, Im nervous about the fight but I wont let him know that... he is still training his ass off, i swear I lose a few years of my life every fight from stress

UFC 119 EDIT ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The card turned out to be not terribly exciting, but I don't like all the hate for the main event... I thought it was a decent fight and Mir did nothing wrong,he was fighting an extremely dangerous striker, he used his improved stand up to survive on the feet with Cro Crop and then he clinched a la Randy Couture, Couture does this in ever fight and he is loved for it, Mir uses the same very smart strategy (at least against a smaller more skilled striker)

and he managed to KO Cro Cop in the 3rd... so why all the hate. He fought smart, worked hard and got the KO finish...

I found the Bader/Nog fight to be much worse, it was a much more boring fight, and I dont even mind "boring fights" but I was dissapointed that both of the top tier 205ers showed bad cardio in a huge fight with huge implications.... that is what made that fight bad, the fighters didnt prepare enough to have a 3 round fight... so it got sloppier and sloppier,

from what I saw and in my opinion neither one of those guys can hang with Bones Jones ... Bader needs to improve his cardio to be able to beat any of the top 5 in the 205 division. From what I have seen he is to sloppy and gasses to fast to be able to beat Rashad, Lyoto, Shogun, Jones or even Forrest... I think Couture has a chance of beating Bader...

Chris Lytle looked good but that was a one dimensional fight, kind of disappointing fight from 2 highly skilled guys....

Dunham probably got robbed, but Sherk has looked the best he has in a while minus the 3rd round....

How can you not like Matt mitrione, he is awesome, he will probably never be champ but he is fun to watch, and I love his personality.

FUCK MMA,

I swear to god if you dont have a big name in this sport you get fucked.

My bro went to Arlington and took a fight against a god damn Team Take down member, who gets trained by Mark Laiman and Jake Rosholt...

He got that dudes ass for 2 rounds, and gets laid on for a round and they give him the decision...

oh and once the fight ends the fucking judges take over 10 minutes to get their verdict... and go fucking figure they give it to the guy from the famous camp...,

fuck it was a good fight, back and forth but shit, 2 rounds blatant to my bro, round started with him going for a guillitone which my bro fought out of and then my brother hits him with a superman and a left hook to drop his ass to the canvas, the scramble more stand up with my brother winning the exchange then my bro completes a mean ass double leg against this wrestling mother fucker... hard...

the first round was the only one close to being up for grabs... but he won it hands down from what mean and at least 10 other fans from the promotion (including fighters and trainers)

the 2nd round was all my bro who took him down and beat him up

the 3rd he got his take down finally off, but just laid on him and staid in half guard and full guard and back for 2 mins before my bro got back to his feet by the end of that scramble the fight was over (the rounds are 3 minutes btw) and then the judges and officials kind of vanish for 10 mins and come back with a win for the god damn fighter out of a famous camp...

makes me want to give up on the sport...

and my brother has lost legit before and i can tell him that and say hey you deserved that loss, but how the fuck do you motivate someone to continue after a blatant bs call... he still wants to some how, but fuck

any way

fuck texas judging

its so fucking frustrating to see that shit

I'd like to see a video, if one turns up.

The StrikeForce event last night was fantastic. My parents get Showtime, so I was able to go over and watch it in giant HD. Diaz-Noons, JZ-Thomson and Coenen-Kaufman were all great fights. Galvao-Woodley was odd in that Galvao got clipped early on and wasn't able to recover, so Woodley stomped him.

Well I am back,

my damn lap top power cable got left in Dallas and I just got a new one...

no one has posted about UFC 121 yet? What is going on?

We got a new Heavy Weight Champ people, Cain did it and in the first round, even took Brock down.

In his defense Brock looked awesome the first minute of the fight, it really seemed to be a missed Takedown that spelled his doom,

Hey there Zanth, I was gonna post, but i only saw the briefest of highlights, and really don't have a clue about the finer details of MMA. Was impressed by the speed with which Cain finished him off though.

I was amazed that he survived the first minute though, since Lesnar is so fcking huge. I still marvel at how calm these guys are when someone takes them to the floor.

So who will be the next challenger?

I think it's been mentioned upthread that i'm not a fan of immediate rematches,

so initially i'd say Carwin - Velasquez, however he's fighting Nelson in January.

So, i'd say the winner of Carwin-Nelson first.
In the meantime, i'd like to see Brock fight someone else (as to who, don't know) with the winner of that fight going against the eventual winner of Velasquez v Carwin/Nelson.

Junior Dos Santos has the next title shot. He's basically sitting on ice until Cain is ready to go again.

Although Cain destroyed Brock, I saw such improvement in Brock's technique and spatial awareness (pre-getting clipped on the chin and tumbling around the cage) that I can legitimately see Brock taking back the belt in a year and a half or so.

Shields was gassed as hell, but still won that fight in my eyes. Kampmann spent so much time on the defensive in the first two rounds.

Sanchez/Thiago was amazing. I think Sanchez broke Thiago's nose at the end of the first, but both guys poured their hearts out in battle. I'd consider it a Fight of the Year contender - excellent striking, good ground technique and drama as Sanchez came back from getting brutalized in the first round.

Roberts go the Sub of the Night by basically seizing the advantage as Guymon put his head on the outside during an attempted single leg takedown and then muscled Guymon into the alligator roll//anaconda finish.

I'll catch Hamill/Ortiz soon and a few of the others.

I'm surprised that despite UFC 120 being IN England, none of the English posted about it. Maybe Bisping-Akiyama wasn't all that good, but it's still the pinnacle of the sport appearing locally with the best local stars. Condit and Hardy simultaneously throwing left hooks, but Condit's hit first and KO'd Hardy - such amazing stuff. Pyle/Hathaway was pretty good as well, although Pyle's decision to pepper Hathaway in the face instead of working for the sub was dumb.

If you have time, watch Broughton/Quieroz. That was a great brawl.

I loved the 120 card, Condit looked great, Bisping vs Sexyami was a hell of a fight,

121 was great too, Diego did great, he impressed me and I dont even like him, I am a Paulo Thiago fan.

A lot of people are griping about the Shields dec but I agree with you Amph he won it... Martin Kapmann did more damage during the fight, but the doest make up for the grapple domination he went through...

That being said I think Kapmann could have won that fight almost easily with a few adjustments. In the 2nd and 3rd round he had many chances to stand up and and probably would have got a TKO stoppage from the absolutely gassed Shields. Instead he turned it into a grapple match and tried to beat Shields at his own game which is noble and all but he should have stopped going for the chokes and stood up and struck

in my opinion anyway....great fight anyway, Shields has to solve his weight cut, im sure it will be better next time...

Hamill just seems to always win... his only legit loss comes from Rich Franklin, the bisping dec was probably one of the most blatant robberies i have seen.
Tito is probably about done in UFC he really needed a win to no only stay relevant at 205 but marketable for the UFC he might be on the chop block if he wants to continue fighting.

I am interested to see how Hamill does against top 10 competition now, which is what Dana promised him... and the only available one that I can think of who isnt booked is lil nog...

Brock impressed the hell out of me, im sure that big knee to the face of cain had to miss, I dont think a direct hit would have left many standing... and boy those body shots had to hurt, he had two awesome takedowns just couldnt hold cain down, he probably should have taken his time on the ground he rushed it a bit but then again Cain is a beast...

Brock was put on queer street by a monster knee to the jaw from Cain followed by a punch (a hook i think?) the crazy slippage across the screen really was just a case of two much momentum from a missed take down, he did get hit by some punched before that but not enough to damage him like that... Cain capitalized on that miss imo, not that he needed any luck he was dominating on standup once he got in his groove and he even had his own take down that was awesome... who would have thought...

bring on Cain VS JDS I cant wait, i give the edge to Cain though he appears to be more well rounded and have way better cardio... JDS has the superpunch though so he has more than a solid chance.

I am most definitely a Paulo "Sam the Eagle" Thiago fan. The dude's strength of schedule is ridiculously tough. I'd wager only a select few in MMA have fought a tougher series of fights than Thiago and most of them are champions. He's still improving, so there's hope for him to become a serious contender soon.

Hamill was destroyed by Jon Jones (the toss cracked Hamill's scapula). The illegal elbows gave him the DQ win, but he actually lost that fight badly. Jones destroyed the Janitor and Vera too, so that's not a huge deal.

I'm a huge fan of Matt (have run into him a couple times and talked, we know some of the same people etc.) and I'd love to see him take the loser of Franklin/Griffin. Lil Nog is perfect though.

I believe the converse - that the punch knocked Lesnar loopy and the knee was follow-up. Lesnar was covering up as he came back up from the tumble across the mat, rather than resetting.

Yeah Hammil got handled by Jones, I watched that fight live, and in my opinion the ref (Herb Dean i think) should have stopped the fight well before the illegal blows came, the whole situation was pretty sloppy, I think that was the same night Nelson KTFO Shaub... but maybe not...

now that's a thought, Carwin is out of his fight with Big Country, Brenden Shaub said he wanted a step up in competition, said he wanted Mir, well before he gets a former champ a fight with Nelson would be perfect for him. Its a chance to avenge a loss, a big step up in competion (Nelson just fought for a title shot)

makes since to me, make it happen Joe Silva!

damn i go on some tangents some times...

edit:

oh Amphibian I dont know you might be right about the Brock stumble check it out

http://i56.tinypic.com/imo6c8.gif (courtesy of a nice guy who does request on Reddit/r/mma )

there was a punch thrown but I cant tell if it even hit and if it did I dont think it would do that type of damage,

I still stick with a slip from a poor take down attempt well it might not have been poor but cain certainly was sticking around for it... so Brock looses balance tumbles tries to recover tumbles gets tagged tries to fight back and gets hurt badly with a knee and punch... imo

It hit right on the sweet spot next to the chin and Brock didn't see it coming. The combination of the two generally means Loopytown, because heavyweights hit so hard that a shot you don't see coming will do massive amounts of damage, as you're not physically set to take the shot (stiffened neck, clenched teeth, body taut etc.).
