It's going to be a Nog/Werdum/Vera/Sylvia carousel of fights. Maybe Frank Mir can earn himself a title fight to mix it up(if he can get a good fight with one of those main contenders and win). Lesnar is still at least a year and a half from being a good enough fighter to contend for a belt. Who else is really any good in the division? Herring and Kongo don't cut it. Gonzaga doesn't cut it.

I recently saw the much hyped fight between Kimbo Slice and Tank Abbot. Two self proclaimed street fighters. I thought Tank was a definate win, but I was wrong. He lost shamefully, after throwing a couple of embarrasing left jabs that wouldnt have stunned Bambi, he was clobbered to the mat, where, if he knew what was good for him, he should have stayed.
His performance was so bad I almost thought the fight was rigged.

The hilarious thing is that Kimbo is a smart person of sorts. Got into college(Miami i think?) on an academic scholarship and decided to drop out and became a bodyguard and streetfighter.

I think Kimbo hits so hard it just makes it look rigged. I want to see Kimbo/Lesner. I realize it would be more spectacle than a legit MMA event, but damn, what a spectacle.

Doesn't the IFL have one good heavyweight? They should sign that guy.

I was impressed that Tank weathered a couple of Kimbo's punches before dropping.

I remember when Tank hit the scene back in the 90s. We laughed and laughed until he started knocking guys out.

Yeah, I've seen him knock guys sparkout. I mean, these fellas looked like they were fucking dead. That's why I thought he would beat Kimbo. I guess he's just too out of shape.


Anyone see the fight where Kimbo gets beaten by some ex-cop in a squash court or something? I think he started to learn MMA moves and holds after that instead of simply relying on prison rules punch up skills.

Tank was also a lot younger back then.

I saw a copy of the Kimbo/Gannon fight. That was a learning experience for Kimbo. It was also a travesty of a fight, with Kimbo's 'manager' jumping into it after few seconds. I respect Kimbo a whole lot more seeing him try out the UFC. Can't wait to see him against a BBJ fighter though.

I wonder if Arlovski will resign. Doubt it. He'll end up champ in one of the schmeeder leagues, unless Sylvia goes to the same one. That would be frustrating I bet, to switch promoters just to be the #1 contender who can't beat Sylvia there as well.

I havent really watched UFC since the old Gracie days. I saw 1 to 5 and found the mix of different arts compelling watching. It became less exiting to me when the styles began to blend into one though. I liked it when you had strikers vs grapplers, wrestlers vs boxers, giants against dwarfs. rounds, time limits, gloves, and additional rules have diminished the sport for me.

Bring back to brutal old days, where a man had to be three quarters dead before the ref decided to stop the fight.

i dont think that arlovski wants to goto a different league, but dana is a prick and doesnt respect the only guy that gave the division hope during the reign of boring sylvia. its just a sad situation, one of many screwups in the heavyweight division by management

Recorded UFC 82 and watched it last night, some OK fights I thought, but all together a little light on pure quality match ups.

Very disappointed with Henderson, thought he really let himself down, could be a long time before he gets another pop at Silva and his tactics looked fairly sound in Rnd 1. He's got to be really mad at himself for gifting Silva the submission.

Silva showed he was a far superior striker and the unpredictability of the mans style gives him a real edge when combined with his agility and athleticism but it often looks like you could punch Henderson all night and he wouldn't get knocked out. I suspect Silva couldn't belive his luck that Henderson made such an elementary error.

I doubt Kongo will have a shot at any period of dominance he's probably a little too old although I would suspect he might get the heavy weight crown at some stage.

Looking forward to watching Lesnar unleash another blend of roid rage and technical naivety.

The style versus style matchups were fun when no one knew for sure what the result would be. The question has been answered without a doubt. Have a tournament of guys all trained in only one style, and BJJ wins.

Without doubt. when their style was unknown no one stood a chance, not even Japanese Jiujitsu, which wouldnt dare teach a man to lay down and take his oponent to the floor with him. Martial Arts trainers the world over watched those early fights in horror, before deciding "I think we better learn some of that rolling around on the floor choking people and breaking arms stuff."
