I hate Kruppe too - it so annoying cos he is always at the centre of the action so there can be no "skimming" of his sections. get to the point - arrrggghhhh!
The thing I love about SE is that you can start loving a character (The Errant, MT) then really hate them (RG) but by the end of the book love them again. Was so chuffed The Errant killed Featherbitch, my all time most hated character.

This is an excellent point - Smiles was in the same building as the god whose worship basically ruined her life - unfort'y, we will probably never find out.
- Abyss, hands out rep with abandon!

Most annoying characters (meaning that even reading about them was annoying):
Udinaas
Feather Witch
The sappers (Hedge and Fiddler; JUST WHERE DO ALL THOSE GRENADOS COME FROM!!! HEY WE HAVE A PROBLEM! OH, BUT I HAVE ONE OF THESE CUSSERS IN MY BACKPOCKET! Yeah, right, just how many do you carry around?) Towards the end of RG this fact began to annoy me very much.
Ganoes Paran at some points.
Some of the marines
My favorites in RG
Silchas Ruin
Clip
Every Tiste Edur
Scabandari
Gesler
Beak
Udinaas

i hate mallick rel ... he reminds me of all the obtuse administrators i've ever come across - self-important, petty; you know the type ... the kind of jerk who always ends up at the top of the pile just cause he's so slimy all others slide off him ...
there's another, one whom a lot of you admire now, but i can't say anything about him, and y'all will hate him later too ...

Theres the obvious people that are written for you to hate them, ie Kallor, Featherwitch, Mallick Rel, but its the characters who have moments.. or very long sections of being boring or just pointless that I hate more then the "evil" characters themselves..
some sections of Herboric's dialogue, alot of Udinaas, as well as Kruppe.. yes he is a great character but reading some of his scenes makes me stop reading to just try to figure out what on earth he just said/did.

Ai, as did mine too.
Let's face it however, there could be any number of candidates for that. It could be even someone who we haven't met yet, one who we have just heard about. That always seems to inspire awe into most people and it would also explain why Kallor can't speak about them in particular. Although that could be simply a 'i can't explain why I hate them' comment

I find it funny people that 'hate' all of the 'bad' characters... The book wouldnt be much without the bad guys... and many of them are interesting and well written.
Example: Leoman. I think the guy is a huge jerk and i have always sensed something fishy about him and would punch him in the face if i ever met him, but i think he is a really good character. I like that he is just doing his own thing and not being caught up in the 'cult' frenzy.
Similar view on Kallor, and am even starting to cheer for him. (also for the CG)
The characters that i really hate reading are any scene with Cutter in it after book one. He makes Apsalar suck in scenes they are together in. Cutter is too wishy washy. Heboric is largely boring, but it may be his closeness to cutter in RG. Then Felisen older. So maybe Heboric doesnt suck as much as i think cause he is always with Felisen or Cutter. Felisen and Cutter parts remind me of Egwene and Nyneve parts from the Wheel of Time.
Not as crazy about reading Rhulad. Not cause he is 'evil', but more i just feel uncomfortable around him. I would like to smack him upside the head at times cause he is such a weak ruler.

Maybe it's just the impression you get, Onos. People certainly use the word 'hate' to describe a vast array of feelings: irritation, disgust, boredom, or just this mystical 'love-to-hate' -thing.
Kallor has been my favourite character since I started reading Malazan (since MoI, which was the first book I read).
Instead, I have been irritated, even disgusted by some of the more likable characters since the beginning.

Oh 'Byssy, I have a proposal. I will rep kallor, and while he is busy fixing it, get his BRAINZ! then tell me the secrets that hide within relating to the books. You must agree to this.

This is a direct plea to kallor lol please tell us who you meant, our sanity depends on it! (I bet its Quick Ben, or Uddinaas, or else Karsa tho)

Here's a theory as to why QB might become disliked....It's not as prevalent in RG, but if you go through Bonehunters with a fine tooth comb QB is being kind of a dick alot. It's like he's reaching the end of his many-souled tether as it were. Like in RG where he mentioned about something "nasty" inside when Hedge asked if he was going to show his Soletaken form. My theory is that IF QB becomes bad in some way, it won't be his doing insofar as all the various souls in him go bad.
Just a theory.
For some reason I see Karsa taking on the CG in the end. In fact I WANT him to. I want him to be all blase about it as well. Like, I'm gonna kill this god here, cause he is ugly and stupid.
Man, Karsa rocks!

I'm currently in the middle of an RG inspired whole series re-read. My first in quite a few years. I'm approaching the end of MoI and have recently come to this conclusion. The first time I read the series, I really disliked (as in tired of reading their parts in the book) Felisin in DG and the Mhybe in MoI. This time around (it must be my 3rd or 4th read of these earlier books), I haven't found them annoying at all. I think it is because when you are first reading the books, the long, bitter, introspective monologues of these characters hold up the pace and take the reader away from the more enigmatic characters and action elsewhere. However, once you know what is coming in the plot, the slower parts don't get in the way as much. In fact, they even start to enrich the book by adding to it's diversity. A good quality of the series, imo.

Agreed! This series re-readability is paramount to it's enjoyment, and a GREAT feature in the series.

Yeah - the Errant turned into a real annoyance, as did feather witch - Udinaas, who at first i didn't like, is now pretty cool, my favourites are still Quick Ben and Cotillion though.

For me it was Pearl.
Bloody clever dick, can't stand that in anyone. He's the sort of person who wakes in the morning and kisses the mirror, he absolutly loves himself. Loved it when he got killed at the end of BH.
Fav chatacters,
Fid, Kalam, QB any of the Bridgeburners..

I hate:
Mhybe - she was so unbelievably boring and annoyin
Clip - I hope so much that he meets Rake and yell at him to Rake guts him
Korbolo Dom - DIE!
The Errant - Trull is dead because of him (althoug I think Trull will make a return)
There are so many characters I love like Karsa and Tehol (I could go on) but i think a special mention has to be made for the two best Gods: Mael and Hood. Keep up the good work.
