Kallor said:

regarding trull: his death was inevitable since his and seren's story was far too perfect for a book of the dead.

I too caught my breath at Mael's imprisonment and yeah, the errant better get his.

Just remember this is a tragedy, folks, and it's only going to get worse, dead-hero-wise.

I admit I wasn't so upset about Trulls death as much as the Errants part in it. After all, what was left of Trull stayed with Seren. But I just hate the way the errant plays the wise guy.

Kallor said:

and Gem, the errant has nothing on kallor.

That's what you think. Kallor at least doesn't hide he is a selfish, annoying and ambitious bastard. Errant pretends to be doing the 'right' thing - he plays with peoples lives just because he doesn't know what to do with himself. He's a backstabbing beauty contest. Kallor at least has some skill with the sword.

the bit that hit me the hardest though was Toc's death with salvation for him just a few metres away and then Tool's reaction

Toc's death didn't have as much of an affect on me, as did Tools reaction. The way he was so calm and collected when he appear with Hetan and Kilava. But then when he learned who it was who had died, and he literally broke down. That bit hit me.

It was the same for me - and even more so with Trull's death. Quick Ben and Hedge have been through so much, I really felt sorry for them - another friend died before their eyes. It was heart breaking. And Fiddler feeling helpless. :p

And Hedges reaction. I mean, he didn't spend nearly as much time with Trull, but he was so pissed off.

I don't mind admitting, when I read Toc's death I went, "Oh, fuck." When I read Tool's reaction I had tears in my eyes. I don't care if Tool served no purpose other than to react to Toc's death, that scene went straight to the part of my brain that regulates outbursts of emotion and kicked it inna fork.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Oh Tool has a purpose. Hes gonna recover, and be pissed at the Letharii. And hes gonna lead the White Face and the Awl Barghast into battle. And its gonna be sweet.

Against the Letherii, and Tehol!

I'm wondering what role the Barghast and Tool have in future books. They came all of that way and part of their goal seems to have been achieved already.

It says she has 11 stripes i'm sure.

See has 11 stripes on her mask, according to some part where the champions are together, I believe it's when Karsa breaks both her wrists, though i'm not sure.
The 11 stripes means she's the Seguleh 12th.

Edit: Regarding Trull's death, Bugg/Mael found the Errant and didn't do anything about the Errants nudge, if QB and Hedge hear about it, then things might heat up a bit.

I don't understand what you mean he should have done? He found out after it happened.

I definitely hate the Errant: though I did sorta like it when he drowned Feather Witch.

I'm hoping for a future scene in the books where Ganoes Paran whips out some rage (based on both his seeming dislike of Oponn) and puts his Master of the Deck boot up the Master Of the Holds' ass, just to prove how outdated and tired the Holds are.

I wholeheartedly agree.

I was really really hoping Paran would appear during that scene where the Errant was moaning about the Master of the Deck.

If you are working up a good hate list, then Mallick Rel deserves to be on it.

I don't hate the Errant, personally. As has been said, in MT we're told that he is drawn towards acts of "tragic poignency" - and how more tragically poignent can you get than that?
He made the ending of the book, for me, although I would have loved to see Brys fight Trull (no particular reason that he would have done, but it would have been awesome:D).

I don't hate the Errant either, I think the Errant is an interesting character and his attempts to gain back power are amusing. I hope Paran makes the Errant look like a fool for a time.

But the Errant went from a pretty neutral, maybe even likable, character in MT to a really unpleasant and quite stupid fool. He redeemed himself a bit by wasting Feather Witch, but that wasn't enough to make up for all the shenanigans he was playing at before.

Maybe likeable? In MT?

Outwardly, maybe, but did you read the same book as me? As soon as he got any power, and was in a position to use it... well. Very much not likeable.

He killed Kuru Qan and Brys, after all.

I don't see it that way. He manipulated the situations so they would die, but didn't do the deed directly. Plus, that's what he does, I just don't blame him for it.

I hated Trull for murdering the Ceda, though it was hard given what a great character he was otherwise. Perhaps the ghosts of Trull and the Ceda can get together and discuss old times.

I was wondering - who is Emperor Tehol's Ceda going to be? I don't think it'll be Bugg.

But you hate him from killing Trull?

Ok, manipulating Sirryn to kill Trull, same difference.

I suppose. I blame the tools of the god, rather than the god himself. Perhaps that doesn't make sense, but Trull threw the spear, Sirryn slipped in the knife. Not the Errant.
