Yepp I agree with Morgot re: QB. Arrogance is what got them dragons defeated.

Not saying that QB isn't more powerful now, just that he isn't that powerful.
As for the change, Fiddler comments on it as well, wondering where all that magic came from. And Quick said that after his encounter with Icarium, he became nastier. And Sukul thought that Quick wasn't a mere mortal ("other things hiding inside that scrawny body")
Perhaps one of his souls is particularly powerful (and nasty), and Quick needed that power when facing Iccy -> said soul gained a bit more leverage and hence the change?
Maybe QB is more prone to direct attacks now if the balance within himself has shifted. Earlier he wasn't, and so perhaps Fid didn't came to know all his capabilities. Not that I think we have seen all of them yet.

See, i never lied ... and though SE explained why Trull had to die, it was Beak's death which touched me most ... and of course, there was Toc, too ...

I agree with that. Beak was by far the most touching death in the book. My god, I must've grown evil when I wasn't looking seeing that I'm agreeing with you and all

As for the disproportionate damage that the Moranth explosives do in the presence of magic - dragons being effectively pure magic would probably be wont to suffer quite spectacularly from their application, as indeed they do - is anyone else of the opinion that this is an entirely deliberate effect that the Moranth have alchemically engineered into their explosives?

Also the cussers that Hedge used on the dragons had been conjured by himself out of thin air (as it were) so therefore might have been his idea of what an explosive should be.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Yep, I agree about the moranth, and SE said in an interview that the moranth munitions were engineered as a weapon against mages...

And yeah Beak's death was touching but when Tool broke down after toc's death was the most powerful moment in the book for me...

I was more upset about Toc's death than Trull's, though both of them were sad. I just wasn't expecting Toc to be in this book at all, and then he goes and dies on me. Though he may not be completely dead, what with his missing eye and everything.

So damn glad that Feather Witch is dead. The only good thing the Errant did in the entire book. I hope Mael catches up with him and wastes him good and proper.

Yuh, was a sad book.

About the Seguleh (12th btw, checked from book) not fighting Rhulad, two theories:
1) She couldn't before Karsa because Karsa broke her hands in their "sparring" contest (healers could have healed her though, so a bit weak theory)
2) She lost to Karsa and according to Seguleh way was inferior - mayhaps she figured that she must let Karsa fight Rhulad, since he wants? Dunno.

I'm just glad that she got away from the Letheras so she can go home and when the Seguleh army sees Karsa, then they can give him the mask of 12th :) The fights wouldnt end there, that's for sure.

That's a good point, Karsa's the Seguleh Twelfth now surely?

Hopefully SE doesn't forget that point - he's been known to mislay plot points in the past, after all. Like Paran's otataral sword going AWOL in MoI.

He already caught up to him, he 'explained' a few things.

Yeah, might be the Errant should be counted as one of the casualties in this book :) He's got no more high priestess, Udinaas said no to being the shield anvil, and the trick with Brys didn't work. Brys is Tehol's Mortal Sword now :)

Btw, I'd love to see Kruppe and Tehol meeting.. think of the conversation.

I think you're overestimating QB somewhat. Ye's he's grown more powerfull. A result of Iccy or meddling by ST probabaly, but he was far from a match for the sisters. Notice, he didn't block their sorcerous attacks but rather... cheated to make them miss their target. He used brains, rather than power so to say.

Why can't brains be power? :)

Trulls death was so....so....arggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

The whole time I was waiting for Trull and Seren to get back together. That was the relationship I was rooting for. And they did, and even though Fear died, I kinda saw it comin...but...but Trull!! Arggggggggggg

Beaks death was definitely the most touching. He was a breath of childish innocence in an army full of veterans and dark twisted soldiers. I think it was very fitting for Hood to great him in person.

But the way Toc's death was handled certainly suggest some further role, what with his eye and all.

Indeed. SE had said that there was going to be just one more resurrection, but we already know he fibbed, what with Hedge and Brys, albeit Hedge was already floating around in HoC. He wasn't alive then.

Karsa's not the seguleh twelfth as far as we understand the seguleh, after all tool summarily dispatched two seguleh and didn't gain a mask, gaining a position in the seguleh ranks requires killing the previous holder of the mask, hence why rake is the seventh but tool aint a seguleh at all.

But if killing was the only way to move up, you could only have one ranked Seguleh at a time, seeing as you have to kill everyone to get to the top.

I got the impression that Tool didn't get the masks because the two he beat weren't actually ranked.

I had that understanding too

Weren't the other two (Thurule and Senu) some type of level initiatives.

We don't know enough about the Seguleh to know for certain, there might need to be certain conditions laid down or a death to occur before a rank can change hands.

I am surprised some of you seem to think Trull's death is 'random'. It was surprising for sure - but it wasn't only about some idiot hating edur. It was the Errant showing his ass again. IMO the Errant is more disgusting than kallor. yes, I said it! Kallor you have competition.

And yes it was tragic and all that, and I cried when hedge and Quick saw him lyind dead...It was heartbreaking. But I still like the end - with Bugg (I assume it was him) taking care of Seren and her being pregnant and all. It was poetic. To me, the capture of Mael made me far more angry - I sighed of relief when ha crawled back. Maybe I grew all numb, or something, I dunno...So many things happening, I can't even begin to summarize this book.

I have more to say, but I can't think right now. I just loved the book. It was perfect. So many surprises, me crying and laughing and raging (I know, I'm a lunatic) all through the book. The best book so far in he series.

And why am I not surprised Quick Ben showed some real power this time around? I knew it! :) :)

I am starting a Lets-Hate-The-Errant-club. I so hope Paran kicks his ass in the near future!

Don't worry my namesake will not disappoint...i hope..

But on the point of random senseless deaths. Hey that's war...it's how things work out. I think we'd be more pissed of if everyone lived happily ever after

Bugg did mention a small...discussion with the Errant when he was talking to Seren at the end.
