I loved the original and I think this extended version is just brilliant.

Such a pity she was a one-hit wonder because she has a lovely voice.

... aaaaand there was a link to this one. Just beautiful.

Wonder why that Tasmin Archer song never hit big in the US. Seal and Des'ree were inescapable and this fits well in that vein (and is hella better than Des'ree's tunes).

Even this piece of crap was a bigger hit here:

Come to think of it though, Seal's "Crazy" and Des'ree's "You Gotta Be" also had videos with solid white backgrounds. I think that's the key.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yeah, too much crap gets airplay and great stuff goes largely unnoticed. Even today.

Actually, is it even worse today? Or am I just getting too old for this shit?

Not too fussed on the hip-hop-ish parts of this one, but the chorus is pure ear candy.

You're definitely getting too old for this, that, and the other.

I was lucky enough to see them live the last time they toured (they do it VERY RARELY) which was I think 2008? And before that they'd not toured since the late 90's?

Anyways, one of the most incredible shows ever. My wife still talks about it.

The Avalanches released their second album.

16 years after their debut.

http://www.news.com....b5618474cd94d3f

Simply put it's lots and lots of samples mixed up to make something new. I loved "Since I left you" and a few other tracks on their first album ("Frontier Psychiatry" was OK but not one of the best on that album IMHO), and the music for this first one ("Frankie Sinatra") from the new album ("Wildflower") is cool, I just can't stand the vocals. The video is literally trippy.

The videos for Frontier Psychiatry and Frankie Sinatra are linked in the story.

@QT
Love the distinctive music and Shirley's vocals, I just don't dig the lyrics. "Empty" could work better as a remixed instrumental/techno version. IMHO, of course. :p

I think I may have the exact opposite opinion on this one, Tsundoku. Danny Brown and DOOM are the only two good things about the new song (though it's definitely neither's best effort by a long shot)...the instrumental and sampled (?) vocals are SO abrasively, self-awaredly wacky I can't imagine wanting to hear it again, let alone on rotation. To me it sounds like something that would have popped up during that murky area between the 3rd wave ska boom and the swing revival of the late 90s (was that only a US thing? If so the rest of the world dodged a bullet).

That said, the video for 'Frankie Sinatra' is indeed awesome.

Something different - a medley of symphonic metal versions of John Williams movie themes:

Love the Imperial March bit

Didn't know that had a video! Man, RTJ3 is like my #1 most anticipated album this year.

I just discovered this "genre" of rap last night.
Have been listening to Killer Mike and Immortal Technique so far and both of them are so good. This is coming from someone who never enjoyed rap ...

Ah well in that case, and you might have looked this up already, RTJ = Run the Jewels. It's a collaboration between Killer Mike and one of my all time favorite rapper/producers El-P. They've done two albums already -- the first a kind of grimy street level response to Kanye and Jay-Z's high-falutin Watch the Throne album. It's not a literal response, but it's like, a tonal and perspective antidote. Their second album (simply called Run the Jewels 2) is a more open, globally politically conscious affair and one of the best rap albums ever. And El-P's last solo album (called Cancer 4 the Cure) is on the same level. El-P produced all three albums (incl the entirety of that last Killer Mike album I mean), essentially back to back to back, and imo they're all masterpieces.

Here's an RTJ2 example:

Here's a song you might like from Jedi Mind Tricks & R.A. about Vietnma (the second verse, by R.A., is a fairly biographical account of his own father's experience, I believe):

With Jedi and R.A. I tend to find their voices a little too rough/gruff for my tastes usually, but in the context of this song I quite like it.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

OK, don't remember who posted about it earlier, but all I have been listening to recently is the Hamilton soundtrack. Just mind blowing. This is from someone who doesn't like hip-hop that much (love musicals though). Just stunning! Signed up for the UK priority thing and am aiming to get tickets when they come on general release. Not likely, but if I do it...

Saw this performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live a few weeks back. I'm not familiar with her, but she reminds me a lot of Kate Bush.

Whoah, she is 100% aping THE KICK INSIDE-era Kate Bush, back when she overtly did her high-pitched falsetto, like the first version of Wuthering Heights, or the Man with the Childin His Eyes.

As a huge Kate fan, this is cool. Also, she's married to Andy Samberg? Awesome!

My brother also pointed that out (that she is married to Andy Samberg) when I sent him the link. My brother is the most knowledgeable music person I know. He has thousands of vinyl records and cds, so I wasn't surprised that he knew who she was. He pointed out that she appeared on the show Portlandia and that she is a virtuoso harp player.
