I can't wait. I just finished the first three books in this series and now should have all the rest sometime next week. Awsome series that is fun and fast paced without a lot of deep thought moments.

Having read white knight first I can see where the series is kind of leading up to some huge climactic ending. I love it.

Damn. I just finished Proven Guilty. I tried to read it slowly and savour it, but when I hit about page 250 or so I just rollicked right through the second half in the last 3 hours. I couldn't help myself, it got SO good, and now I find it hard to pick if Proven Guilty or Death Masks is my favourite volume so far.....(but I think Proven Guilty nudged Death Masks out of the top spot slightly)

Charity Carpenter having magic abilities! Molly not only having magic abilities as well, but being the subject of the title of this volume, getting off and becoming Harry's apprentice?! Awesome! The attack on Arctis Tor in the heart of Winter was fucking amazing! Fix and Lily were brought up to a new level here since Summer Knight and I dug that. The one Fetch at the convention manifesting as an alien from Aliens!? Brilliant. Michael Carpenter saying that the last time a wizard was asked to watch over a sword of a Knight of The Cross was Merlin. The Original! so awesome. It really now feels like this is all ramping up to a huge finale come the end of the series, and I am LOVING the slow build. I dig this talk of a BLACK Council...and the fact that this council is going to be the enemy for the series and it is only in book 8 really coming to light. Well done Butcher. Well done!

I am off tomorrow to pick up White Knight...and probably a hardcover copy of Small Favor too.

It really is getting good, isn't it? My favourite is still Summer Knight, though -- that's when we really find out how big and complicated the Dresden universe can become. though I have a soft spot for _that scene_ in Dead Beat with Sally...

On the Codex:

Another series that starts off "ok, but meh" and gets progressively better. The first few are decent - readable and have some good moments. The latest book (Captain's Fury, #4) has me waiting impatiently for 5 to see what happens next.

Yes, Dance I have picked them up... a prety cool world and some cool enemies/friends.

Honestly I wish he would write 2 Dresden books a year and not do the Codex alera but he might get sick of writing dresden and the dresdin work might suffer if he did which would be a bad thing right

The way I figure it, you always have to wait for books no matter what unless you only buy already completed series - but that really limits your options. So whether the books are once a year or twice isn't that big of a deal to me. Your point about the quality is also a good one. One *very good* Dresden book a year beats two "good* Dresden books a year in my mind, and the Codex books are still a good read, if not quite at the Dresden level.

I know! A Warden sword I assume, but still (as it doesn't look like the Knight of the Cross sword....which was a samurai sword I believe).

Warden sword would make sense.Could just be artistic rendering - it had a crosspiece, which in theory rules out the Cross samurai sword and it seemed too small for Michael's broadsword.

Yes but the sword was very thin. It dosen't look much like a broadsword does, imo.

He's tall, but I think it's in the 6'4-6'6 range or so. 7 feet is incredibly tall.

According to what we've heard of Turn Coat, Morgan (I think that's the name - his old Warden nemesis) shows up asking for help. We know he has a sword - maybe it's his?

I doubt it, simply because she would be dead if not for Harry's direct intervention. It's also too obvious (just like his mentor, imo). It's going to be someone you wouldn't expect (at least, I hope it is). Possibly the Merlin or the Gatekeeper.

Also, Morgan doesn't have to be the traitor for Harry to end up with his sword. If Morgan is in hiding, then he might have lent it to him.

Yes I got that point Dancer, about whos sword it must be, and the lend thing.

I think it would be cool if Harry made his own warden sword, as a magical 'battery' so he could store up power, as I don't see him getting much stronger without cool stuff like that.

Anyway, the Merlin is too obvious. He is the one I would suspect straight off the bat. Gatekeeper perhaps, but I think he is going to be key to Harrys destiny to fight off the outsiders and preserve as much of the human and faerie races/peoples as he can.

I don't know, the Merlin always seemed unlikely to me. In love with his power, but also realizing that power is largely based on his position on the White Council - so why would he want to reduce it or destroy it?

The Gatekeeper goes on my list simply because he's so unlikely to be on it. Which is contradictory I know, but that's how I think.

I've also thought of Kincaid as a "false" turn coat - say he gets hired by the other side, or has been hired by the Black Council this entire time...
