Tehol an Kruppe?

Am I the only one who thought that Tehol was very Kruppish? They have similar intellects and they are both very closely knit with gods.

Interesting. I did not get that feeling when I read Midnight Tides, but thats an interesting comparision. I wonder what we will see Tehol or Kruppe do next?

well yes they are both extravagant and intellegent (exremely intellegent) but otherwise i dont see many similarities between the two.

IMHO Tehol is more formidable: he achieves his results without magic, whereas Kruppe is a sorcerer as well.

If I remember correctly, Kruppe uses magic on several occasions to meddle with people's memories in GotM and MoI (Mockra maybe?)
Tehol Beddict:
Anyone who can topple a nation's economy qualifies. Plus, he's got style and humor
- one of my favourite characters.

Remember a thread somewhere discussing similarties in character between Pust, Kruppe and Tehol.
Obviously, they are all in for the comic relief.
And, because of their intelligence, when they start panicking for real, then there's trouble coming. Although it's hard to say in case of Pust.

didnt krul give kruppe access to kruls personal warren?
Its sad i have the dutch version of that book, but ive read something about krul gave kruppe "an eternal flame that would keep kruppe warm?"
and yes, kruppe is a thief, wizzy and spy.

In essence, all are 'mad brilliant geniuses' with healthy doses of comic relief thrown in.
I suspect that it's the similarity in the way that SE writes them, more than anything, that links the characters. He does try to keep them distinct, but even so, elements come thru, esp. with Kruppe and Pust who are even, it seems, physically similar.
- Abyss, physically similar to Brad Pitt. No, really. What?

Kruppe is definitely a mage, with powers that do not rely on K'rul.
For example, remember the sequence when Sorry trails him through Darujhistan, and marvels at his abilities, how he effortlessly steals and pilfers magically as he wanders the streets. Or the point just before the Ball when he messes with Murillio's memory to make him forget about the Eel.
Definite proof that his powers are not Elder in origin (as noted above): when he tries to unveil his warren in the presence of Lorn's otataral sword he is knocked out cold.
Given his abilities as a thief, spymaster and general manipulator I would definitely guess that Mockra was his warren. Though that does raise the question of what he hoped to achieve magically during the fight with Lorn, does Mockra have some offensive capabilities? I imagine it's not particularly useful in battle situations. There must be a reason the identity of his warren has been so deliberately left open.
And Brood's hammer, I think K'rul was definitely shielding him there, I doubt Kruppe has innate power of that level (to withstand Burn? I don't think so).

Corlo, high mage of the crimson guard, boils some brains with Mockra in Midnight Tides you know. Though it seems a little to extreme for friendly Kruppe. I guess he planned to calm her down in some way, make her faint or something like that.

Well it sure is not one of the other Paths. They are more 'visible'.

I suppose he must've been intending knock her out or blind her or something, as you say...Kruppe doesn't seem the type to go boiling brains at the drop of a hat, or even the swing of a sword.
In fact, it almost certainly would've been something innocuous like that, as Kruppe seems to take pains to conceal his magical abilities from his friends. But for the otataral he probably would've waited until Coll engaged her, then had her fall unconscious or become confused during the swordfight, so it would look like Coll had dealt with her.
Then he could've pretended to have slept through it, I would imagine. What a legend.

Could be a GotMism, but the way Kruppe was snatching items in the market didn't really suggest Mokra. I'm thinking he's a candidate for having access to more than one warren, in any case.
- Abyss, has access to more than one warren zevon cd.

That's true, since GotM there has been much less evidence of Baruk-style magic-use, opening doors, closing windows, moving documents, etc. It's all been pretty much battle-field and occasionally questing/sensing sorcery since then. That could be more a matter of story than a shifting magical system though.
Anyone hazard a guess as to Baruk's warren? Maybe Serc, if you want to attribute his ability to move things to a control over wind and air.

No, Mockra fits : Pearl uses it to make Lostara and himself levitate when they're right next to a cliff, right before/after (not sure) they discover the otataral dragon... I think those small "cantrips" would actually be accessible to every skilled mage, whatever his warren.
For Baruk, I'd imagine Driss : dealing with concrete materials seems akin to alchemy.
